118 1 David rejected of Saul and of the people at the time appointed obtained the kingdom. 4 For the which he biddeth all them, that fear the Lord, to be thankful. And under his person in all this was Christ lively set forth, who should be of his people rejected.
1 Praise [a]ye the Lord, because he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.
2 Let Israel now say, That his mercy endureth forever.
3 Let the house of Aaron now say, That his mercy endureth forever.
4 Let them that fear the Lord, now say, That his mercy endureth forever.
5 I called upon the Lord in [b]trouble, and the Lord heard me, and set me at large.
6 The Lord is with me: therefore I will not fear what [c]man can do unto me.
7 The Lord is with me among them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon mine enemies.
8 It is better to trust in the Lord, than to have confidence [d]in man.
9 It is better to trust in the Lord, than to have confidence in princes.
10 All nations have compassed me: but in the Name of the Lord shall I destroy them.
11 They have compassed me, yea, they have compassed me: but in the Name of the Lord I shall destroy them.
12 They came about me like bees, but they were quenched as a fire of thorns: for in the Name of the Lord I shall destroy them.
13 [e]Thou hast thrust sore at me, that I might fall: but the Lord hath helped me.
14 The Lord is my strength and [f]song: for he hath been my deliverance.
15 The [g]voice of joy and deliverance shall be in the tabernacles of the righteous, saying, The right hand of the Lord hath done valiantly.
16 [h]The right hand of the Lord is exalted: the right hand of the Lord hath done valiantly.
17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
18 The Lord had chastened me sore, but he hath not delivered me to death.
19 Open ye unto me the [i]gates of righteousness, that I may go into them, and praise the Lord.
20 This is the gate of the Lord: the righteous shall enter into it.
21 I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and hast been my deliverance.
22 (A)The stone, which the builders [j]refused, is the head of the corner.
23 This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes,
24 This is the [k]day, which the Lord hath made: let us rejoice and be glad in it.
25 [l]O Lord, I pray thee, save now: O Lord, I pray thee now give prosperity.
26 Blessed be he, that cometh in the Name of the Lord: [m]we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord.
27 The Lord is mighty, and hath given us [n]light: bind the sacrifice with cords unto the horns of the altar.
28 Thou art my God, and I will praise thee, even my God: therefore I will exalt thee.
29 Praise ye the Lord, because he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.
145 This Psalm was composed when the kingdom of David flourished. 1 Wherein he describeth the wonderful providence of God, as well in governing man, as in preserving all the rest of his creatures. 17 He praiseth God for his justice and mercy. 18 But specially for his loving-kindness toward those that call upon him, that fear him, and love him: 21 For the which he promiseth to praise him forever.
A Psalm of David of praise.
1 O my God and King, [a]I will extol thee, and will bless thy Name forever and ever.
2 I will bless thee daily, and praise thy Name forever and ever.
3 [b]Great is the Lord, and most worthy to be praised, and his greatness is incomprehensible.
4 Generation shall praise thy works unto [c]generation, and declare thy power.
5 I will meditate of the beauty of thy glorious majesty, and thy wonderful works.
6 And they shall speak of the power of thy [d]dreadful acts, and I will declare thy greatness.
7 They shall break out into the mention of thy great goodness, and shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
8 (A)The Lord is gracious, and [e]merciful, slow to anger, and of great mercy.
9 The Lord is good to all, and his mercies are over all his works.
10 All thy works praise thee, O Lord, and thy Saints bless thee.
11 [f]They show the glory of thy kingdom, and speak of thy power,
12 To cause his [g]power to be known to the sons of men, and the glorious renown of his kingdom.
13 Thy (B)kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all ages.
14 The Lord upholdeth all that [h]fall, and lifteth up all that are ready to fall.
15 The eyes of [i]all wait upon thee, and thou givest them their meat in due season.
16 Thou openest thine hand, and fillest all things living of thy good pleasure.
17 The Lord is [j]righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.
18 The Lord is near unto all that call upon him, yea, to all that call upon him in [k]truth.
19 He will fulfill the [l]desire of them that fear him; he will also hear their cry, and will save them.
20 The Lord preserveth all them that love him; but he will destroy the wicked.
21 My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord, and all [m]flesh shall bless his holy Name forever and ever.
4 ¶ After they departed from the mount Hor by the way of the Red Sea, to [a]compass the land of Edom: and the people were sore grieved because of the way.
5 And the people spake against God, and against Moses, saying, Wherefore have ye brought us out of Egypt, to die in the wilderness, for here is neither bread nor water, and our soul (A)loatheth this light [b]bread.
6 (B)Wherefore the Lord sent [c]fiery serpents among the people, which stung the people: so that many of the people of Israel died.
7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned: for we have spoken against the Lord, and against thee: pray to the Lord, that he take away the serpents from us: and Moses prayed for the people.
8 And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it up for a [d]sign, that as many as are bitten, may look upon it, and live.
9 (C)So Moses made a serpent of brass, and set it up for a sign: and when a serpent had bitten a man, then he looked to the serpent of brass, and [e]lived.
21 ¶ Then Israel sent messengers unto Sihon, king of the Amorites, saying,
22 (A)Let me go through thy land: we will not turn aside into the fields, nor into the vineyards, neither drink of the waters of the wells: we will go by the king’s way, until we be past thy country.
23 (B)But Sihon gave Israel no license to pass through his country, but Sihon assembled all his people, and went out against Israel into the wilderness, and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
24 (C)But Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and conquered his land, from Arnon unto [a]Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon, for the border of the children of Ammon was [b]strong.
25 And Israel took all these cities, and dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites in Heshbon, and in all the [c]villages thereof.
26 For [d]Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, which had fought beforetime against the king of the Moabites, and had taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon.
27 Wherefore they that speak in proverbs, say, Come to Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be built and repaired,
28 For [e]a fire is gone out of Heshbon, and a flame from the city of Sihon, and hath consumed Ar of the Moabites, and the lords of Bamoth in Arnon.
29 Woe be to thee, Moab: O people of [f]Chemosh, thou art undone: he hath suffered his sons to be pursued, and his daughters to be in captivity to Sihon the king of the Amorites.
30 Their [g]empire also is lost from Heshbon unto Dibon, and we have destroyed them unto Nophah, which reacheth unto Medeba.
31 ¶ Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.
32 And Moses sent to search out Jazer, and they took the towns belonging thereto, and rooted out the Amorites that were there.
33 ¶ (D)And they turned, and went up toward Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan came out against them, he, and all his people, to fight at Edrei.
34 Then the Lord said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thine hand, and all his people, and his land: (E)and thou shalt do to him as thou diddest unto Sihon the king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.
35 They smote him therefore, and his sons, and all his people, until there was none left him: so they conquered his land.
12 Therefore many of them believed, and of honest women, which were Grecians, and men not a few.
13 ¶ [a]But when the Jews of Thessalonica knew, that the word of God was also preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and moved the people.
14 [b]But by and by the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timothy abode there still.
15 [c]And they that did conduct Paul, [d]brought him unto Athens: and when they had received a commandment unto Silas and Timothy that they should come to him at once, they departed.
16 ¶ [e]Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was [f]stirred in him, when he saw the city subject to [g]idolatry.
17 Therefore he disputeth in the Synagogue with the Jews, and with them that were religious, and in the market daily with [h]whomsoever he met.
18 [i]Then certain Philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoics, disputed with him, and some said, What will this [j]babbler say? Others said, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods (because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.)
19 And they took him, and brought him into [k]Mars’ street, saying, May we not know, what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is?
20 For thou bringest certain strange things unto our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.
21 [l]For all the Athenians and strangers which dwelt there, gave themselves to nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some news.
22 [m]Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ street, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too [n]superstitious.
23 For as I passed by, and beheld your [o]devotions, I found an altar wherein was written, UNTO THE [p]UNKNOWN GOD. Whom ye then ignorantly worship, him show I unto you.
24 [q]God that made the world, and all things that are therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, (A)dwelleth not in temples made with hands.
25 (B)Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he giveth to all life and breath and all things,
26 [r]And hath made of [s]one blood all mankind, to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath assigned the seasons which were ordained before, and the bounds of their habitation,
27 That they should seek the Lord, if so be they might have [t]groped after him, and found him, though doubtless he be not far from every one of us.
28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being, as also certain of your own Poets have said: For we are also his generation.
29 (C)Forasmuch then, as we are the generation of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone [u]graven by art and the invention of man.
30 [v]And the time of this ignorance God regarded not: but now he admonisheth all men everywhere to repent.
31 Because he hath appointed a day in the which he will judge the world in righteousness, by that man whom he hath appointed, whereof he hath given an [w]assurance to all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
32 [x]Now when they had heard of the resurrection from the dead, some mocked, and others said, We will hear thee again of this thing.
33 And so Paul departed from among them.
34 Howbeit certain men clave unto Paul, and believed: among whom was also Dionysius Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
10 ¶ [a]And he taught in one of the Synagogues on the Sabbath day.
11 And behold, there was a woman which had a [b]spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could not lift up herself in any wise.
12 When Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said to her, Woman, thou art [c]loosed from thy disease.
13 And he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made straight again, and glorified God.
14 [d]And the [e]ruler of the Synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus healed on the Sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.
15 Then answered him the Lord, and said, Hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the Sabbath day loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to the water?
16 And ought not this daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had bound, lo, eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?
17 And when he said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: but all the people rejoiced at all the excellent things that were done by him.
