Who May Dwell on Your Holy Mountain?
A Psalm of David.
15 O Yahweh, who may [a]sojourn (A)in Your tent?
Who may dwell on Your (B)holy mountain?
2 He who (C)walks blamelessly, and works righteousness,
And (D)speaks truth in his heart.
3 He (E)does not slander [b]with his tongue,
Nor (F)does evil to his neighbor,
Nor (G)takes up a reproach against his friend;
4 In [c]whose eyes a reprobate is despised,
But [d]who (H)honors those who fear Yahweh;
He (I)swears to his own hurt and does not change;
5 He (J)does not put out his money [e]at interest,
Nor (K)does he take a bribe against the innocent.
(L)He who does these things will never be shaken.
32 “Also concerning (A)the foreigner who is not of Your people Israel, if he comes from a far country for Your great name’s sake and Your strong hand and Your outstretched arm, so if they come and pray toward this house, 33 then listen from heaven, from Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You, in order that all the peoples of the earth may know Your name even to [a]fear You, as do Your people Israel, and to know that Your name is (B)called upon this house which I have built.
34 “When Your people go out to battle against their enemies, by whatever way You shall send them, and they pray to You toward this city which You have chosen and the house which I have built for Your name, 35 then listen from heaven to their prayer and their supplication, and do justice.
36 “When they sin against You ((C)for there is no man who does not sin) and You are angry with them and give them over to an enemy, so that [b]they take them away captive to a land far off or near, 37 and if they (D)cause these things to return to their heart in the land where they have been taken captive, and [c]return and make supplication to You in the land of their captivity, saying, ‘We have sinned, we have committed iniquity and have acted wickedly’; 38 (E)and if they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, where they have been taken captive, and pray toward their land which You have given to their fathers and the city which You have chosen, and toward the house which I have built for Your name, 39 then listen from heaven, from Your dwelling place, to their prayer and supplications, and do justice for them and forgive Your people who have sinned against You.
40 “Now, O my God, I pray, (F)let Your eyes be open and (G)Your ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place.
41 “(H)So now, arise, O Yahweh God, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength; let Your priests, O Yahweh God, be clothed with salvation and let Your holy ones be glad in what is good.
42 “O Yahweh God, do not turn away the face of Your anointed; (I)remember Your lovingkindness to Your servant David.”
The Glory of Yahweh Fills His House
7 (J)Now when Solomon had [d]finished praying, (K)fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of Yahweh filled the house. 2 (L)And the priests could not enter into the house of Yahweh because the glory of Yahweh filled the house of Yahweh. 3 And all the sons of Israel, seeing the fire come down and the glory of Yahweh upon the house, bowed down on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave praise to Yahweh, saying, “(M)For He is good, for His lovingkindness endures forever.”
Offerings for the House of Yahweh
4 (N)Now the king and all the people were offering sacrifices before Yahweh. 5 And King Solomon offered a sacrifice of 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep. So the king and all the people dedicated the house of God. 6 And the priests stood at their posts, and (O)the Levites also, with the instruments of music to Yahweh, which King David had made for giving thanks to Yahweh—“for His lovingkindness endures forever”—whenever [e]he gave praise by their hand, while (P)the priests on the other side blew trumpets; and all Israel was standing.
7 (Q)Then Solomon set apart as holy the middle of the court that was before the house of Yahweh, because there he offered the burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings; for the bronze altar which Solomon had made was not able to hold the burnt offering and the grain offering and the fat.
The Sin of Favoritism
2 (A)My brothers, (B)do not hold your faith in our [a](C)glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of (D)personal favoritism. 2 For if a man comes into your [b]assembly with a gold ring and dressed in (E)bright clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in (F)dirty clothes, 3 and you [c]pay special attention to the one who is wearing the (G)bright clothes, and say, “You sit here in a good place,” and you say to the poor man, “You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool,” 4 have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges (H)with evil thoughts? 5 Listen, (I)my beloved brothers: did not (J)God choose the poor [d]of this world to be (K)rich in faith and (L)heirs of the kingdom which He (M)promised to those who love Him? 6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and they themselves (N)drag you into [e]court? 7 (O)Do they not blaspheme the good name [f]by which you have been called?
8 If, however, you (P)are fulfilling the [g]royal law according to the Scripture, “(Q)You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. 9 But if you (R)show partiality, you are committing sin, being convicted by the [h]law as transgressors. 10 For whoever keeps the whole [i]law and yet (S)stumbles in one point, he has become (T)guilty of all. 11 For He who said, “(U)Do not commit adultery,” also said, “(V)Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but murder, you have become a transgressor of the [j]law. 12 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by (W)the law of freedom. 13 For (X)judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy [k]triumphs over judgment.
Jesus Before His Accusers
53 (A)Then they led Jesus away to the high priest; and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes *gathered together. 54 And Peter followed Him at a distance, (B)right into (C)the courtyard of the high priest; and he was sitting with the [a]officers and (D)warming himself at the [b]fire. 55 Now the chief priests and the whole [c](E)Sanhedrin were seeking to obtain testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any. 56 For many were giving false testimony against Him, but their testimony was not consistent. 57 And some, standing up, were giving false testimony against Him, saying, 58 “We ourselves heard Him say, ‘(F)I will destroy this [d]sanctuary made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands.’” 59 And not even in this way was their testimony consistent. 60 And the high priest stood up in their midst and questioned Jesus, saying, “You answer nothing? What are these men testifying against You?” 61 (G)But He kept silent and did not answer. (H)Again the high priest was questioning Him and *said to Him, “Are You the [e]Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?” 62 And Jesus said, “I am; and you shall see (I)the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and (J)coming with the clouds of heaven.” 63 (K)And tearing his tunics, the high priest *said, “What further need do we have of witnesses? 64 You have heard the (L)blasphemy; how does it seem to you?” And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death. 65 And some began to (M)spit at Him, and [f](N)to blindfold Him, and to beat Him with their fists, and to say to Him, “(O)Prophesy!” And the officers [g]received Him with [h]slaps in the face.
