BOOK 1

The Way of the Righteous and Wicked

How blessed is the man who (A)does not walk in the (B)counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the (C)way of sinners,
Nor (D)sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his (E)delight is (F)in the law of [a]Yahweh,
And in His law he meditates (G)day and (H)night.
And he will be like (I)a tree firmly planted by [b]streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its [c]leaf does not wither;
And [d]in whatever he does, (J)he prospers.

The wicked are not so,
But they are like (K)chaff which the wind drives away.
Therefore (L)the wicked will not rise in the (M)judgment,
Nor sinners in (N)the congregation of the righteous.
For Yahweh [e](O)knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of (P)the wicked will perish.

The Reign of Yahweh’s Anointed

Why do (Q)the [f]nations rage
And the peoples (R)meditate on a vain thing?
The (S)kings of the earth take their stand
And the rulers take counsel together
(T)Against Yahweh and against His [g](U)Anointed, saying,
“Let us (V)tear their fetters apart
And cast away their cords from us!”

He who [h]sits in the heavens (W)laughs,
The Lord (X)mocks them.
Then He speaks to them in His (Y)anger
And (Z)terrifies them in His fury, saying,
“But as for Me, I have [i]installed (AA)My King
Upon Zion, (AB)My holy mountain.”

“I will surely tell of the [j]decree of Yahweh:
He said to Me, ‘You are (AC)My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
Ask of Me, and (AD)I will surely give (AE)the [k]nations as Your inheritance,
And the (AF)ends of the earth as Your possession.
You shall [l](AG)break them with a [m]rod of iron,
You shall (AH)shatter them like a potter’s vessel.’”

10 So now, O kings, (AI)show insight;
Take warning, O [n]judges of the earth.
11 Serve Yahweh with (AJ)fear
And rejoice with (AK)trembling.
12 [o]Kiss (AL)the Son, lest He become angry, and you perish in the way,
For (AM)His [p]wrath may [q]soon be kindled.
How blessed are all who (AN)take refuge in Him!

Yahweh, Save Me

A Psalm of David. When [r]he fled from Absalom his son.

O Yahweh, how (AO)my adversaries have become many!
Many are rising up against me.
Many are saying [s]of my soul,
“There is no (AP)salvation for him in God.” [t]Selah.

But You, O Yahweh, are (AQ)a shield about me,
My (AR)glory, and the One who (AS)lifts my head.
I was calling to Yahweh with my voice,
And He (AT)answered me from (AU)His holy [u]mountain. Selah.
[v]I (AV)lay down and slept;
I awoke, for Yahweh sustains me.
I will (AW)not be afraid of ten thousands of people
Who all around (AX)have set themselves against me.

(AY)Arise, O Yahweh; (AZ)save me, O my God!
For You have (BA)struck all my enemies on the [w]cheek;
You [x]have (BB)shattered the teeth of the wicked.
[y](BC)Salvation belongs to Yahweh;
Your (BD)blessing [z]be upon Your people! Selah.

Yahweh Makes Me Abide in Safety

[aa]For the choir director. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.

(BE)Answer me when (BF)I call, O God [ab]of my righteousness!
You have [ac](BG)relieved me in my distress;
Be (BH)gracious to me and (BI)hear my prayer.

O sons of men, how long will (BJ)my glory become (BK)a reproach?
How long will you love (BL)what is worthless and seek (BM)falsehood? [ad]Selah.
But know that Yahweh has [ae](BN)set apart the (BO)holy one for Himself;
Yahweh (BP)hears when I call to Him.

[af](BQ)Tremble, [ag](BR)and do not sin;
[ah](BS)Ponder in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
Offer [ai]the (BT)sacrifices of righteousness,
And (BU)trust in Yahweh.

Many are saying, “(BV)Who will show us good?”
(BW)Lift up the light of Your face upon us, O Yahweh!
You have put (BX)gladness in my heart,
More than when their grain and new wine abound.
In peace I will [aj]both (BY)lie down and sleep,
For You alone, O Yahweh, make me to (BZ)abide in safety.

Psalm 7

In You I Have Taken Refuge

A [a]Shiggaion of David, which he sang to Yahweh concerning the words of Cush, a Benjamite.

O Yahweh my God, (A)in You I have taken refuge;
Save me from all those who pursue me, and (B)deliver me,
Lest he tear [b]my soul (C)like a lion,
Rending me in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

O Yahweh my God, if I have done this,
If there is (D)injustice in my hands,
If I have (E)rewarded evil to him who [c]is at peace with me,
Or have (F)plundered my adversary without cause,
Let the enemy pursue [d]my soul and overtake [e]it;
And let him trample my life down to the ground
And cause my glory to dwell in the dust. [f]Selah.

(G)Arise, O Yahweh, in Your anger;
(H)Lift up Yourself against (I)the fury of my adversaries,
And (J)arouse Yourself [g]for me; You have appointed judgment.
Let the congregation of the (K)peoples encompass You,
And over [h]them return on high.
Yahweh (L)judges the peoples;
[i](M)Give justice to me, O Yahweh, according to my righteousness and my integrity that is in me.
O let (N)the evil of the wicked come to an end, but (O)establish the righteous;
For the righteous God (P)tests the hearts and [j]minds.
10 My (Q)shield is [k]with God,
Who (R)saves the upright in heart.
11 God is a (S)righteous judge,
And a God who has (T)indignation every day.

12 If [l]a man (U)does not repent, He will (V)sharpen His sword;
He has (W)bent His bow and prepared it.
13 He has also prepared [m]for Himself deadly weapons;
He makes His (X)arrows fiery shafts.
14 Behold, he travails with wickedness,
And he (Y)conceives mischief and gives birth to falsehood.
15 He has dug a pit and hollowed it out,
And has (Z)fallen into the hole which he made.
16 His (AA)mischief will return upon his own head,
And his (AB)violence will descend upon [n]his own skull.

17 I will give thanks to Yahweh (AC)according to His righteousness
And will (AD)sing praise to the name of Yahweh Most High.

1 Kings 1:5-31

Now (A)Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, “I will be king.” So (B)he prepared for himself a chariot and horsemen and fifty men as runners before him. But his father had never [a]grieved him at any time by asking, “Why have you done so?” And he was also a very handsome man in form, and [b](C)he was born after Absalom. [c]And he had conferred with (D)Joab the son of Zeruiah and with (E)Abiathar the priest; and following (F)Adonijah, they helped him. But (G)Zadok the priest, (H)Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, (I)Nathan the prophet, (J)Shimei, Rei, and (K)the mighty men who belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

And Adonijah sacrificed sheep and oxen and fatlings by the [d]stone of Zoheleth, which is beside (L)En-rogel; and he invited all his brothers, the king’s sons, and all the men of Judah, the king’s servants. 10 But he did not invite Nathan the prophet, Benaiah, the mighty men, and (M)Solomon his brother.

Nathan Speaks to Bathsheba

11 Then Nathan spoke to (N)Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, “Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith has become king, and David our lord does not know it? 12 So now come, please let me (O)give you counsel and provide escape for your life and the life of your son Solomon. 13 Go [e]at once to King David and say to him, ‘Have you not, my lord, O king, sworn to your maidservant, saying, “(P)Surely Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne”? Why then has Adonijah become king?’ 14 Behold, while you are still there speaking with the king, I will come in after you and fully confirm your words.”

15 So Bathsheba went in to the king in the bedroom. Now (Q)the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was ministering to the king. 16 Then Bathsheba bowed and prostrated herself [f]before the king. And the king said, “What [g]do you wish?” 17 And she said to him, “My lord, you swore to your maidservant by [h]Yahweh your God, saying, ‘(R)Surely your son Solomon shall be king after me and he shall sit on my throne.’ 18 But now, behold, Adonijah is king; and now, my lord the king, you do not know it. 19 (S)And he has sacrificed oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the sons of the king and Abiathar the priest and Joab the commander of the army, but he has not invited Solomon your servant. 20 As for you now, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, to tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him. 21 Otherwise it will be, (T)as soon as my lord the king sleeps with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be considered [i]offenders.”

22 Behold, while she was still speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet came in. 23 Then they told the king, saying, “Here is Nathan the prophet.” And then he came in before the king and prostrated himself [j]before the king with his [k]face to the ground. 24 Then Nathan said, “My lord the king, have you said, ‘Adonijah shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne’? 25 (U)For he has gone down today and has sacrificed oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the king’s sons and the commanders of the army and Abiathar the priest, and behold, they are eating and drinking before him; and they say, ‘(V)Long live King Adonijah!’ 26 (W)But me, even me your servant, and Zadok the priest and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada and your servant Solomon, he has not invited. 27 Has this thing happened by my lord the king, and you have not made known to your [l]servants who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?”

28 Then King David answered and said, “Call Bathsheba to me.” And she came into the king’s presence and stood before the king. 29 And the king swore and said, “(X)As Yahweh lives, who has redeemed my life from all distress, 30 surely as (Y)I swore to you by Yahweh, the God of Israel, saying, ‘Surely your son Solomon shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place’; I will surely do so this day.” 31 Then Bathsheba bowed with her [m]face to the ground, and prostrated herself [n]before the king and said, “(Z)May my lord King David live forever.”

Acts 26:1-23

26 (A)Now Agrippa said to Paul, “You are permitted to speak for yourself.” Then Paul, stretching out his hand, began to make his defense:

“Concerning all the things of which I am accused by the Jews, I regard myself blessed, King Agrippa, that I am about to make my defense before you today; [a]especially because you are an expert in all (B)customs and [b]questions among the Jews; therefore I beg you to listen to me patiently.

“So then, all Jews know (C)my manner of life from my youth, which from the beginning was spent among my own nation and at Jerusalem; since they have known about me for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that I lived as a (D)Pharisee (E)according to the strictest (F)sect of our religion. And now I am standing here being tried (G)for the hope of (H)the promise made by God to our fathers; the promise (I)to which our twelve tribes hope to attain, as they earnestly serve God night and day. And for this (J)hope, O King, I am being (K)accused by Jews. Why is it considered unbelievable among all of you (L)if God does raise the dead?

“So then, (M)I thought to myself that I had to do many things hostile to (N)the name of Jesus the Nazarene. 10 And this is [c]just what I (O)did in Jerusalem; not only did I lock up many of the [d]saints in prisons, having (P)received authority from the chief priests, but also when they were being put to death I (Q)cast my vote against them. 11 And (R)as I punished them often in all the synagogues, I tried to force them to blaspheme; and being (S)furiously enraged at them, I kept pursuing them (T)even to [e]foreign cities.

Paul Tells of His Conversion

12 [f]While so engaged (U)as I was journeying to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests, 13 at midday, O King, I saw on the way a light from heaven, [g]brighter than the sun, shining all around me and those who were journeying with me. 14 And when we had (V)all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the [h](W)Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? [i]It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ 15 And I said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And the Lord said, ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. 16 But rise up and (X)stand on your feet; for this purpose I have appeared to you, to (Y)appoint you a (Z)servant and (AA)a witness not only to the things which you have [j]seen, but also to the things in which I will appear to you; 17 (AB)rescuing you (AC)from the Jewish people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you, 18 to (AD)open their eyes so that they may turn from (AE)darkness to light and from the authority of (AF)Satan to God, that they may receive (AG)forgiveness of sins and an (AH)inheritance among those who have been sanctified by (AI)faith in Me.’

19 “So, King Agrippa, I did not prove disobedient to the heavenly vision, 20 but kept declaring both (AJ)to those of Damascus first, and also (AK)at Jerusalem and then throughout all the region of Judea, and even (AL)to the Gentiles, that they should (AM)repent and turn to God, practicing deeds (AN)appropriate to repentance. 21 For this reason some Jews (AO)seized me in the temple and were trying (AP)to put me to death. 22 Therefore, having obtained help from God to this day, I stand here (AQ)bearing witness both to small and great, stating nothing but what (AR)the Prophets and Moses said was going to take place; 23 [k](AS)that the [l]Christ was [m]to suffer, and [n]that (AT)as first of the resurrection from the dead, He was going to proclaim (AU)light both to the Jewish people and to the Gentiles.”

Mark 13:14-27

The Abomination of Desolation and the Tribulation

14 “But (A)when you see the (B)abomination of desolation standing where it should not be (let the reader understand), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. 15 (C)And the one who is on the housetop must not go down, or go in to get anything out of his house; 16 and the one who is in the field must not turn back to get his garment. 17 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 18 But pray that it may not happen in the winter. 19 For those days will be a time of tribulation such as has not occurred (D)since the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will. 20 And unless the Lord had shortened those days, no [a]life would have been saved; but for the sake of the [b]elect, whom He chose, He shortened the days. 21 And then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the [c]Christ’; or, ‘Behold, He is there’; do not believe him; 22 for false christs and (E)false prophets will arise, and will show [d](F)signs and (G)wonders, in order to lead astray, if possible, the elect. 23 But as for you, see! I have told you everything in advance.

The Coming of the Son of Man

24 “But in those days, after that tribulation, (H)the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light, 25 (I)and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers that are in [e]the heavens will be shaken. 26 And then they will see (J)the Son of Man (K)coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 And then He will send forth the angels, and (L)will gather together His [f]elect from the four winds, (M)from the farthest end of the earth to the farthest end of heaven.
