“He catches the [so-called] wise in their own shrewdness, And the advice of the devious is quickly thwarted.
He catches the [so-called] wise in their own trickiness, and the counsel of the schemers is brought to a quick end.
He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.
He traps the wise in their craftiness so that the plans of the deceptive are quickly brought to an end.
trapping the wise in their cleverness so that the plans of the devious don’t succeed.
trapping the crafty in their own tricks and foiling quickly the plans of the false.
in their own evil schemes, and their wisdom fails.
He taketh the wise in their own craftiness; and the counsel of the wily is carried headlong:
Who catcheth the wise in their craftiness, and disappointeth the counsel of the wicked:
He catches those who think they are wise in their own clever traps and brings to an end their evil plans.
When wise people try to do clever things, he causes those things to give them trouble. He quickly stops their clever ideas.
He traps the wise in their schemes, and the plans of the devious come to a swift end.

He catches the ·wise [crafty; clever] in their own ·clever traps [craftiness] and ·sweeps away [ends; finishes off] the ·plans [advice; schemes] of those who ·try to trick others [are wily].
He taketh the wise in their craftiness, and the counsel of the wicked is made foolish.

He upsets the plans of cunning people, and traps the wise in their own schemes, so that nothing they do succeeds;

They are caught in their own traps; he thwarts their schemes.
“If I were in your shoes, I’d go straight to God, I’d throw myself on the mercy of God. After all, he’s famous for great and unexpected acts; there’s no end to his surprises. He gives rain, for instance, across the wide earth, sends water to irrigate the fields. He raises up the down-and-out, gives firm footing to those sinking in grief. He aborts the schemes of conniving crooks, so that none of their plots come to term. He catches the know-it-alls in their conspiracies— all that intricate intrigue swept out with the trash! Suddenly they’re disoriented, plunged into darkness; they can’t see to put one foot in front of the other. But the downtrodden are saved by God, saved from the murderous plots, saved from the iron fist. And so the poor continue to hope, while injustice is bound and gagged.

Some people think they are so wise. But God catches them in their own tricks. He sweeps away the evil plans of sinful people.

Which taketh sly cautelous men in their own fellness, and he destroyeth the counsel of shrews. (Who catcheth the sly and the shrewd in their own craftiness, and he destroyeth the counsel of the depraved.)
