The Lord ·presents his case [or comes forward to pronounce judgment] against the elders and other ·leaders [rulers; princes] of his people: “You have ·burned [ruined; ravaged] the vineyard. ·Your houses are full of [L In your houses are] what you ·took [stole; plundered] from the poor.
God enters the courtroom. He takes his place at the bench to judge his people. God calls for order in the court, hauls the leaders of his people into the dock: “You’ve played havoc with this country. Your houses are stuffed with what you’ve stolen from the poor. What is this anyway? Stomping on my people, grinding the faces of the poor into the dirt?” That’s what the Master, God-of-the-Angel-Armies, says.
The Lord comes to pronounce judgment on the leaders of his people and their officials. He says, “It is you who have ruined the vineyard! You have stashed in your houses what you have stolen from the poor.
The Eternal will bring charges against those in positions of authority over His people. Eternal One: You are charged with devouring everything in the vineyard, and leaving nothing for the needy. You’ve ransacked the poor to fill your houses.
the Lord shall come to doom, with the elder men of his people, and with his princes; for ye have wasted my vineyard, and the raven of a poor man is in your house. (the Lord shall come to judge the elders of his people, and their leaders; for ye have destroyed my vineyard, and the spoils of the poor be in your house.)
