And he spoke unto Him yet again and said, “Perhaps there shall be forty found there?” And He said, “I will not do it for forty’s sake.”
And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for the forty’s sake.
Abraham spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose [only] forty are found there.” And He said, “I will not do it for the sake of the forty [who are righteous].”
And [Abraham] spoke to Him yet again, and said, Suppose [only] forty shall be found there. And He said, I will not do it for forty’s sake.
And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty’s sake.
Then he spoke to him again, “Suppose forty are found there?” He answered, “I will not do it on account of forty.”
Once again Abraham spoke, “What if forty are there?” The Lord said, “For the sake of forty, I will do nothing.”
He spoke to him yet again: “What if forty are found there?” He said, “For the sake of the forty I won’t do it.”
“Suppose there are just 40 good people?” Abraham asked. “Even for them,” the Lord replied, “I won't destroy the city.”
And he continued yet to speak with him, and said, Perhaps there may be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for the forty's sake.
And again he said to him: But if forty be found there, what wilt thou do? He said: I will not destroy it for the sake of forty.
Abraham spoke again. He said, “And if you find only forty good people there, will you destroy the city?” The Lord said, “If I find forty good people, I will not destroy the city.”
Abraham spoke to God again. He said, ‘What will you do if only 40 good people are there?’ The Lord said, ‘Because of 40 good people, I will not destroy the city.’
He spoke to him yet again and said, “What if only forty are found there?” He said, “I will not do it for the sake of the forty.”
Again he spoke to him and said, “Suppose forty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of forty I will not do it.”
Again he spoke to him and said, “Suppose forty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of forty I will not do it.”
Again Abraham said to him, “If you find only forty ·good people [righteous] there, will you destroy the city?” The Lord said, “If I find forty, I will not destroy it.”
And he yet spake to him again, and said, What if there shall be found forty there? Then he answered, I will not do it for forty’s sake.
Abraham asked him again, “What if 40 are found there?” He answered, “For the sake of the 40 I will not do it.”
Abraham spoke again: “Perhaps there will be only forty.” He replied, “I will not destroy it if there are forty.”
Then he spoke to Him again, “Suppose 40 are found there?” He answered, “I will not do it on account of 40.”
Again Abraham said to the Lord, “If you find only 40 good people there, will you destroy the city?” The Lord said, “If I find 40 good people, I will not destroy the city.”
Abraham continued to speak to him, asking, “What if 40 are found there?” The Lord replied, “I won’t do it for the sake of those 40.”
And he spoke unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty’s sake.
And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake.
And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty’s sake.
Then he spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose forty are found there?” And He said, “I will not do it on account of the forty.”
And once again he spoke to him and said, “What if forty are found there?” And he answered, “I will not do it on account of the forty.”
Then Abraham went further with his request. “Suppose there are only forty?” And God replied, “I won’t destroy it if there are forty.”
Abraham spoke up again, “What if you only find forty?” “Neither will I destroy it if for forty.”
And he spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose there will be forty found there?” So He said, “I will not do it for the sake of forty.”
Abraham asked him again, “What if 40 are found there?” He answered, “For the sake of the 40 I will not do it.”
But Abraham persisted, saying, “What if only forty are found there?” He replied: I will refrain from doing it for the sake of the forty.
And he spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose forty are found there?” And He said, “I will not do it on account of the forty.”
He spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose forty are found there?” And He said, “I will not do it on account of the forty.”
Abraham spoke again and said, “What if you find forty there?” He answered, “I will not do it, for the sake of those forty.”
Again Abraham said to him, “If you find only forty good people there, will you destroy the city?” The Lord said, “If I find forty, I will not destroy it.”
Abraham spoke to him again, “What if forty are found there?” He replied, “I will not do it for the sake of the forty.”
Once again Abraham spoke to him. He asked, “What if only 40 are found there?” He said, “If there are 40, I will not do it.”
Once again he spoke to him, “What if only forty are found there?” He said, “For the sake of forty, I will not do it.”

Then Abraham pressed his request further. “Suppose there are only forty?” And the Lord replied, “I will not destroy it for the sake of the forty.”
Again he spoke to him, ‘Suppose forty are found there.’ He answered, ‘For the sake of forty I will not do it.’
Again he spoke to him, ‘Suppose forty are found there.’ He answered, ‘For the sake of forty I will not do it.’
Again he spoke to him, “Suppose forty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of forty I will not do it.”
Again he spoke to him, “Suppose forty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of forty I will not do it.”
And he spoke unto Him yet again, and said, Suppose there shall be forty found there. And He said, I will not do it for forty’s sake.
Again he spoke to him, and said, “Suppose forty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of forty I will not do it.”
Again he spoke to him, and said, “Suppose forty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of forty I will not do it.”
So he spoke to Him yet again and said, “Perhaps forty will be found there?” And He said, “I will not do it for the sake of the forty.”
Abraham (persisting): Suppose 40 are found there. Eternal One: I won’t destroy the city for the sake of 40.
He spoke to him yet again, and said, “What if there are forty found there?” He said, “I will not do it for the forty’s sake.”
And again Abraham said to him, But if forty be there, what shalt thou do? The Lord said, I shall not smite for forty (I shall not strike them all down, for the sake of forty righteous people).
And he addeth again to speak unto Him and saith, `Peradventure there are found there forty?' and He saith, `I do [it] not, because of the forty.'
