Only the ·ruler [prince] himself may sit in the gateway to eat ·a meal [L bread; C probably his portion of the fellowship offering; Lev. 7:15; Deut. 12:7] ·in the presence of [before] the Lord. He must enter through the porch of the gateway and go out the same way.”
God spoke to me: “This gate is shut and it’s to stay shut. No one is to go through it because God, the God of Israel, has gone through it. It stays shut. Only the prince, because he’s the prince, may sit there to eat in the presence of God. He is to enter the gate complex through the porch and leave by the same way.”
It is for the Nasi; the Nasi [see 34:23-24; 37:24-25, a "Dovid" or Messianic figure], he only shall sit in it to eat lechem before Hashem; he shall enter by the derech ulam hasha’ar, and shall exit by its derech.
Only the prince is allowed inside the gateway to sit and feast before the Eternal. He will not go all the way through the gate but only through the portico of the gateway where he will stop and sit. He’ll exit the same way he came in.
The prince himself shall sit therein, that he eat bread before the Lord (But the prince himself may sit there, to eat the holy food before the Lord); he shall go in by the way of the gate of the porch, and he shall go out by the (same) way thereof.
