¶ The sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah: which three were born unto him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight of the Lord; and he slew him.
Judah’s sons were Er, Onan, and Shelah. A Canaanite woman, ·the daughter of Shua [or Bath-shua], was their mother. Judah’s ·first son [firstborn], Er, did ·what the Lord said was wicked [L evil in the Lord’s sight/eyes], so the Lord ·put him to death [killed him].
Judah had Er, Onan, and Shelah; their mother was Bathshua the Canaanite. Er, Judah’s firstborn, was so bad before God that God killed him. Judah also had Perez and Zerah by his daughter-in-law Tamar—a total of five sons. Perez had Hezron and Hamul; Zerah had Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Darda—five sons. Carmi had Achar, who brought doom on Israel when he violated a holy ban. Ethan’s son was Azariah. And Hezron had Jerahmeel, Ram, and Chelubai.
The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, and Shelah: These three were born to him by the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. Now Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight of the Lord, and He put him to death.
The sons of Judah were Er, Onan and Shelah. A woman from Canaan had these three sons by him. She was the daughter of Shua. Er was Judah’s oldest son. He was evil in the Lord’s sight. So the Lord put him to death.
The sons of Judah (Er, Onan, and Shelah) were born to his wife Bath-shua of Canaan. Er (Judah’s firstborn) was wicked in the eyes of the Eternal One, so He put him to death. Er’s widow (and Judah’s own daughter-in-law),
The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, and Shelah; these three were born to him of Shua, a daughter of Canaan. And Er, the first begotten (son) of Judah, was evil before the Lord, and the Lord killed him. (The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, and Shelah; these three were born to him of the daughter of Shua, of Canaan/these three were born to him of Bathshua, a Canaanite. And Er, the first-born son of Judah, was evil before the Lord, and the Lord killed him.)
