In Thee, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed; deliver me in Thy righteousness.

Bow down Thine ear to me, deliver me speedily; be Thou my strong rock, a house of defense to save me.

For Thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for the sake of Thy name, lead me and guide me.

Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me, for Thou art my strength.

Into Thine hand I commit my spirit; Thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.

I have hated them that have regard for lying vanities; but I trust in the Lord.

I will be glad and rejoice in Thy mercy, for Thou hast considered my trouble. Thou hast known my soul in adversities,

And hast not delivered me into the hands of the enemy; Thou hast set my feet in a large room.

Have mercy upon me, O Lord, for I am in trouble; mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.

For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing; my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.

I am a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbors, and a fear to mine acquaintances; they that see me in the streets flee from me.

I am forgotten as a dead man, out of mind; I am like a broken vessel.

For I have heard the slander of many; fear was on every side; while they took counsel together against me, they schemed to take away my life.

But I have trusted in Thee, O Lord; I said, “Thou art my God.”

My times are in Thy hand; deliver me from the hand of mine enemies and from them that persecute me.

Make Thy face to shine upon Thy servant; save me for Thy mercies’ sake.

Let me not be ashamed, O Lord, for I have called upon Thee; let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.

Let the lying lips be put to silence, which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.

O how great is Thy goodness which Thou hast laid up for them that fear Thee, which Thou hast wrought for them that trust in Thee before the sons of men!

Thou shalt hide them in the safety of Thy presence from the pride of man; Thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

Blessed be the Lord, for He hath shown me His marvelous kindness in a stronghold city!

For I said in my haste, “I am cut off from before Thine eyes!” Nevertheless Thou heard the voice of my supplications when I cried unto Thee.

O love the Lord, all ye His saints! For the Lord preserveth the faithful, but plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.

Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.

Oh how great is thy goodness, Which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee, Which thou hast wrought for them that take refuge in thee, Before the sons of men!

In the covert of thy presence wilt thou hide them from the plottings of man: Thou wilt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

Blessed be Jehovah; For he hath showed me his marvellous lovingkindness in a strong city.

As for me, I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: Nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications, When I cried unto thee.

Oh love Jehovah, all ye his saints: Jehovah preserveth the faithful, And plentifully rewardeth him that dealeth proudly.

Be strong, and let your heart take courage, All ye that hope in Jehovah.

I hate those who pay regard to vain (empty, worthless) idols; But I trust in the Lord [and rely on Him with unwavering confidence].

I will rejoice and be glad in Your steadfast love, Because You have seen my affliction; You have taken note of my life’s distresses,

And You have not given me into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a broad place.

Be gracious and compassionate to me, O Lord, for I am in trouble; My eye is clouded and weakened by grief, my soul and my body also.

For my life is spent with sorrow And my years with sighing; My strength has failed because of my iniquity, And even my body has wasted away.

Because of all my enemies I have become a reproach and disgrace, Especially to my neighbors, And an object of dread to my acquaintances; Those who see me on the street run from me.

I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind; I am like a broken vessel.

For I have heard the slander and whispering of many, Terror is on every side; While they schemed together against me, They plotted to take away my life.

But as for me, I trust [confidently] in You and Your greatness, O Lord; I said, “You are my God.”

My times are in Your hands; Rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from those who pursue and persecute me.

Make Your face shine upon Your servant; Save me in Your lovingkindness.

Let me not be put to shame, O Lord, for I call on You; Let the wicked (godless) be put to shame, let them be silent in Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead).

Let the lying lips be mute, Which speak insolently and arrogantly against the [consistently] righteous With pride and contempt.

How great is Your goodness, Which You have stored up for those who [reverently] fear You, Which You have prepared for those who take refuge in You, Before the sons of man!

In the secret place of Your presence You hide them from the plots and conspiracies of man; You keep them secretly in a shelter (pavilion) from the strife of tongues.

Blessed be the Lord, For He has shown His marvelous favor and lovingkindness to me [when I was assailed] in a besieged city.

As for me, I said in my alarm, “I am cut off from Your eyes.” Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications (specific requests) When I cried to You [for help].

O love the Lord, all you His godly ones! The Lord preserves the faithful [those with moral and spiritual integrity] And fully repays the [self-righteousness of the] arrogant.

Be strong and let your hearts take courage, All you who wait for and confidently expect the Lord.

In You, O Lord, do I put my trust and seek refuge; let me never be put to shame or [have my hope in You] disappointed; deliver me in Your righteousness!

Bow down Your ear to me, deliver me speedily! Be my Rock of refuge, a strong Fortress to save me!

Have mercy and be gracious unto me, O Lord, for I am in trouble; with grief my eye is weakened, also my inner self and my body.

Let me not be put to shame, O Lord, or disappointed, for I am calling upon You; let the wicked be put to shame, let them be silent in Sheol (the place of the dead).

Let the lying lips be silenced, which speak insolently against the [consistently] righteous with pride and contempt.

Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear, revere, and worship You, goodness which You have wrought for those who trust and take refuge in You before the sons of men!

In the secret place of Your presence You hide them from the plots of men; You keep them secretly in Your pavilion from the strife of tongues.

Blessed be the Lord! For He has shown me His marvelous loving favor when I was beset as in a besieged city.

As for me, I said in my haste and alarm, I am cut off from before Your eyes. But You heard the voice of my supplications when I cried to You for aid.

O love the Lord, all you His saints! The Lord preserves the faithful, and plentifully pays back him who deals haughtily.

Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for and hope for and expect the Lord!

I hate those who embrace what is completely worthless. I myself trust the Lord.

I rejoice and celebrate in your faithful love because you saw my suffering— you were intimately acquainted with my deep distress.

You didn’t hand me over to the enemy, but set my feet in wide-open spaces.

Have mercy on me, Lord, because I’m depressed. My vision fails because of my grief, as do my spirit and my body.

My life is consumed with sadness; my years are consumed with groaning. Strength fails me because of my suffering; my bones dry up.

I’m a joke to all my enemies, still worse to my neighbors. I scare my friends, and whoever sees me in the street runs away!

I am forgotten, like I’m dead, completely out of mind; I am like a piece of pottery, destroyed.

Yes, I’ve heard all the gossiping, terror all around; so many gang up together against me, they plan to take my life!

But me? I trust you, Lord! I affirm, “You are my God.”

My future is in your hands. Don’t hand me over to my enemies, to all who are out to get me!

Shine your face on your servant; save me by your faithful love!

Lord, don’t let me be put to shame because I have cried out to you. Let the wicked be put to shame; let them be silenced in death’s domain!

Let their lying lips be shut up whenever they speak arrogantly against the righteous with pride and contempt!

How great is the goodness that you’ve reserved for those who honor you, that you commit to those who take refuge in you— in the sight of everyone!

You hide them in the shelter of your wings, safe from human scheming. You conceal them in a shelter, safe from accusing tongues.

Bless the Lord, because he has wondrously revealed his faithful love to me when I was like a city under siege!

When I was panicked, I said, “I’m cut off from your eyes!” But you heard my request for mercy when I cried out to you for help.

All you who are faithful, love the Lord! The Lord protects those who are loyal, but he pays the proud back to the fullest degree.

All you who wait for the Lord, be strong and let your heart take courage.

In you, Adonai, I take refuge; let me never be put to shame; in your justice, save me!

Turn your ear toward me, come quickly to my rescue, be for me a rock of strength, a fortress to keep me safe.

Since you are my rock and fortress, lead me and guide me for your name’s sake.

Free me from the net they have hidden to catch me, because you are my strength.

Into your hand I commit my spirit; you will redeem me, Adonai, God of truth.

I hate those who serve worthless idols; as for me, I trust in Adonai.

I will rejoice and be glad in your grace, for you see my affliction, you know how distressed I am.

You did not hand me over to the enemy; you set my feet where I can move freely.

Show me favor, Adonai, for I am in trouble. My eyes grow dim with anger, my soul and body as well.

For my life is worn out with sorrow and my years with sighing; my strength gives out under my guilt, and my bones are wasting away.

I am scorned by all my adversaries, and even more by my neighbors; even to acquaintances I am an object of fear — when they see me in the street, they turn away from me.

Like a dead man, I have passed from their minds; I have become like a broken pot.

All I hear is whispering, terror is all around me; they plot together against me, scheming to take my life.

But I, I trust in you, Adonai; I say, “You are my God.”

My times are in your hand; rescue me from my enemies’ power, from those who persecute me.

Make your face shine on your servant; in your grace, save me.

Adonai, don’t let me be put to shame, for I have called on you; let the wicked be put to shame, let them be silenced in Sh’ol.

May lying lips be struck dumb, that speak insolently against the righteous with such pride and contempt.

But oh, how great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you do for those who take refuge in you, before people’s very eyes!

In the shelter of your presence you hide them from human plots, you conceal them in your shelter, safe from contentious tongues.

Blessed be Adonai! For he has shown me his amazing grace when I was in a city under siege.

As for me, in my alarm I said, “I have been cut off from your sight!” Nevertheless, you heard my pleas when I cried out to you.

Love Adonai, you faithful of his. Adonai preserves the loyal, but the proud he repays in full.

Be strong, and fill your hearts with courage, all of you who hope in Adonai.

(A psalm by David for the music leader.) I come to you, Lord, for protection. Don't let me be ashamed. Do as you have promised and rescue me.

Listen to my prayer and hurry to save me. Be my mighty rock and the fortress where I am safe.

You, Lord God, are my mighty rock and my fortress. Lead me and guide me, so that your name will be honored.

Protect me from hidden traps and keep me safe.

You are faithful, and I trust you because you rescued me.

I hate the worshipers of worthless idols, but I trust you, Lord.

I celebrate and shout because you are kind. You saw all my suffering, and you cared for me.

You kept me from the hands of my enemies, and you set me free.

Have pity, Lord! I am hurting and almost blind. My whole body aches.

I have known only sorrow all my life long, and I suffer year after year. I am weak from sin, and my bones are limp.

My enemies insult me. Neighbors are even worse, and I disgust my friends. People meet me on the street, and they turn and run.

I am completely forgotten like someone dead. I am merely a broken dish.

I hear the crowds whisper, “Everyone is afraid!” They are plotting and scheming to murder me.

But I trust you, Lord, and I claim you as my God.

My life is in your hands. Save me from enemies who hunt me down.

Smile on me, your servant. Have pity and rescue me.

I pray only to you. Don't disappoint me. Disappoint my cruel enemies until they lie silent in their graves.

Silence those proud liars! Make them stop bragging and insulting your people.

You are wonderful, and while everyone watches, you store up blessings for all who honor and trust you.

You are their shelter from harmful plots, and you are their protection from vicious gossip.

I will praise you, Lord, for showing great kindness when I was like a city under attack.

I was terrified and thought, “They've chased me far away from you!” But you answered my prayer when I shouted for help.

All who belong to the Lord, show how you love him. The Lord protects the faithful, but he severely punishes everyone who is proud.

All who trust the Lord, be cheerful and strong.

To David himself, understanding. Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

Blessed is the man to whom the Lord hath not imputed sin, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

Because I was silent my bones grew old; whilst I cried out all the day long.

For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: I am turned in my anguish, whilst the thorn is fastened.

I have acknowledged my sin to thee, and my injustice I have not concealed. I said I will confess against myself my injustice to the Lord: and thou hast forgiven the wickedness of my sin.

In my distress, I said, “God cannot see me!” But you heard my prayer when I cried out to you for help.

Love the Lord, all you who belong to him. The Lord protects those who truly believe. But he punishes the proud as much as they have sinned.

Blessed is Yahweh, because he has worked marvelously his loyal love to me in a besieged city.

Lord, I trust in you alone. Don’t let my enemies defeat me. Rescue me because you are the God who always does what is right.

Answer quickly when I cry to you; bend low and hear my whispered plea. Be for me a great Rock of safety from my foes.

Yes, you are my Rock and my fortress; honor your name by leading me out of this peril.

I heard the lies about me, the slanders of my enemies. Everywhere I looked I was afraid, for they were plotting against my life.

But I am trusting you, O Lord. I said, “You alone are my God; my times are in your hands. Rescue me from those who hunt me down relentlessly.

Let your favor shine again upon your servant; save me just because you are so kind!

Don’t disgrace me, Lord, by not replying when I call to you for aid. But let the wicked be shamed by what they trust in; let them lie silently in their graves,

their lying lips quieted at last—the lips of these arrogant men who are accusing honest men of evil deeds.”

Oh, how great is your goodness to those who publicly declare that you will rescue them. For you have stored up great blessings for those who trust and reverence you.

Hide your loved ones in the shelter of your presence, safe beneath your hand, safe from all conspiring men.

Blessed is the Lord, for he has shown me that his never-failing love protects me like the walls of a fort!

I spoke too hastily when I said, “The Lord has deserted me,” for you listened to my plea and answered me.

Oh, love the Lord, all of you who are his people; for the Lord protects those who are loyal to him, but harshly punishes all who haughtily reject him.

So cheer up! Take courage if you are depending on the Lord.

I run to you, God; I run for dear life. Don’t let me down! Take me seriously this time! Get down on my level and listen, and please—no procrastination! Your granite cave a hiding place, your high cliff nest a place of safety.

You’re my cave to hide in, my cliff to climb. Be my safe leader, be my true mountain guide. Free me from hidden traps; I want to hide in you. I’ve put my life in your hands. You won’t drop me, you’ll never let me down.

I hate all this silly religion, but you, God, I trust. I’m leaping and singing in the circle of your love; you saw my pain, you disarmed my tormentors, You didn’t leave me in their clutches but gave me room to breathe. Be kind to me, God— I’m in deep, deep trouble again. I’ve cried my eyes out; I feel hollow inside. My life leaks away, groan by groan; my years fade out in sighs. My troubles have worn me out, turned my bones to powder. To my enemies I’m a monster; I’m ridiculed by the neighbors. My friends are horrified; they cross the street to avoid me. They want to blot me from memory, forget me like a corpse in a grave, discard me like a broken dish in the trash. The street-talk gossip has me “criminally insane”! Behind locked doors they plot how to ruin me for good.

Desperate, I throw myself on you: you are my God! Hour by hour I place my days in your hand, safe from the hands out to get me. Warm me, your servant, with a smile; save me because you love me. Don’t embarrass me by not showing up; I’ve given you plenty of notice. Embarrass the wicked, stand them up, leave them stupidly shaking their heads as they drift down to hell. Gag those loudmouthed liars who heckle me, your follower, with jeers and catcalls.

What a stack of blessing you have piled up for those who worship you, Ready and waiting for all who run to you to escape an unkind world. You hide them safely away from the opposition. As you slam the door on those oily, mocking faces, you silence the poisonous gossip. Blessed God! His love is the wonder of the world. Trapped by a siege, I panicked. “Out of sight, out of mind,” I said. But you heard me say it, you heard and listened.

Love God, all you saints; God takes care of all who stay close to him, But he pays back in full those arrogant enough to go it alone.

Be brave. Be strong. Don’t give up. Expect God to get here soon.

Let their lying lips be speechless, since they speak against righteous people with arrogance and contempt.

Your kindness is so great! You reserve it for those who fear you. Adam’s descendants watch as you show it to those who take refuge in you.

Thank Yahweh! He has shown me the miracle of his mercy in a city under attack.

The Lord deserves praise for he demonstrated his amazing faithfulness to me when I was besieged by enemies.

Give praise to the Lord. He showed me his wonderful love when my enemies attacked the city I was in.

I was afraid and said, “I’ve been cut off from you!” But you heard my cry for your favor. You heard me when I called out to you for help.

Love the Lord, all you who are faithful to him! The Lord keeps safe those who are faithful to him. But he completely pays back those who are proud.

Baruch Hashem! For He hath showed me His wondrous chesed in an Ir Matzor (besieged city).

For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before Thine eyes; nevertheless Thou heardest the voice of my tachanun (supplications) when unto Thee I cried for help.

O love Hashem, all ye His Chasidim; for Hashem preserveth the emunim (the faithful ones), but He pays back in full the oseh ga’avah (the one acting in pride, haughtily).

You did not hand me over to the enemy, but instead, You liberated me and made me secure in a good and spacious land.

Show me Your grace, Eternal One, for I am in a tight spot. My eyes are aching with grief; my body and soul are withering with miseries.

My life is devoured by sorrow, and my years are haunted with mourning. My sin has sapped me of all my strength; my body withers under the weight of this suffering.

To all my enemies I am an object of scorn. My neighbors especially are ashamed of me. My friends are afraid to be seen with me. When I walk down the street, people go out of their way to avoid me.

I am as good as dead to them. Forgotten! Like a shattered clay pot, I am easily discarded and gladly replaced.

For I hear their whispered plans; terror is everywhere! They conspire together, planning, plotting, scheming to take my life.

But I pour my trust into You, Eternal One. I’m glad to say, “You are my God!”

I give the moments of my life over to You, Eternal One. Rescue me from those who hate me and who hound me with their threats.

Look toward me, and let Your face shine down upon Your servant. Because of Your gracious love, save me!

Spare me shame, O Eternal One, for I turn and call to You. Instead, let those who hate me be shamed; let death’s silence claim them.

Seal their lying lips forever, for with pride and contempt boiling in their hearts, they speak boldly against the righteous and persecute those who poured their trust into You.

Your overflowing goodness You have kept for those who live in awe of You, And You share Your goodness with those who make You their sanctuary.

You hide them, You shelter them in Your presence, safe from the conspiracies of sinful men. You keep them in Your tent, safe from the slander of accusing tongues.

Bless the Eternal! For He has revealed His gracious love to me when I was trapped like a city under siege.

my times be in thine hands. Deliver thou me from the hands of mine enemies; and from them that pursue me. (my life is in thy hands. Rescue thou me from the power of my enemies; and from those who persecute me.)

Make thou clear thy face on thy servant; Lord, make thou me safe in thy mercy; (Make thy face to shine upon thy servant; Lord, save thou me in thy love;)

be I not shamed, for I inwardly called thee. Unpious men be ashamed, and be they led forth into hell; (let me not be shamed, for I have called upon thee. Let the unpious, or the unrighteous, be ashamed, and let them go down to Sheol, or the land of the dead;)

guileful lips be made dumb. That speak wickedness against a just man; in pride, and in mis-using/in pride, and in abusing. (and let deceitful lips be made dumb. Yea, those who speak wickedness against the righteous; in pride, and in mis-using/in pride, and in abusing.)

Lord, the multitude of thy sweetness is full great; which thou hast hid to men dreading thee. Thou hast made a perfect thing to them that hope in thee; in the sight of the sons of men. (Lord, the multitude of thy goodness is very great; which thou hast kept safe for those who fear thee/for those who revere thee. Thou hast made a perfect thing for those who put their trust in thee; before the sons of men.)

Thou shalt hide them in the private of thy face; from [the] troubling of men (Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence; from all the troubles caused by people). Thou shalt defend them in thy tabernacle; from [the] against-saying of tongues.

Blessed be the Lord; for he hath made wonderful his mercy to me in a strengthened city. (Blessed be the Lord; for he hath shown his wonderful love to me, like a city that is strengthened, or fortified.)

Forsooth I said in the out-passing of my soul; I am cast out from the face of thine eyes. Therefore thou heardest the voice of my prayer; while I cried to thee. (For I said in the going forth of my soul, I am cast out from before thine eyes. But thou heardest the words of my prayer; when I cried to thee for help.)

All ye holy men of the Lord, love him; for the Lord shall seek truth, and he shall yield plenteously to them that do pride. (All ye holy people of the Lord, love him; for the Lord preserveth the faithful, but he shall strongly punish the proud.)

All ye that hope in the Lord, do ye manly; and your heart be comforted. (All ye who hope in the Lord, be ye encouraged; and let your hearts be strengthened.)

To the Overseer. -- A Psalm of David. In Thee, O Jehovah, I have trusted, Let me not be ashamed to the age, In Thy righteousness deliver me.

Incline unto me Thine ear hastily, deliver me, Be to me for a strong rock, For a house of bulwarks to save me.

For my rock and my bulwark [art] Thou, For Thy name's sake lead me and tend me.

Bring me out from the net that they hid for me, For Thou [art] my strength.

Into Thy hand I commit my spirit, Thou hast redeemed me, Jehovah God of truth.

I have hated the observers of lying vanities, And I toward Jehovah have been confident.

I rejoice, and am glad in Thy kindness, In that Thou hast seen mine affliction, Thou hast known in adversities my soul.

And Thou hast not shut me up, Into the hand of an enemy, Thou hast caused my feet to stand in a broad place.

Favour me, O Jehovah, for distress [is] to me, Mine eye, my soul, and my body Have become old by provocation.

For my life hath been consumed in sorrow And my years in sighing. Feeble because of mine iniquity hath been my strength, And my bones have become old.

Among all mine adversaries I have been a reproach, And to my neighbours exceedingly, And a fear to mine acquaintances, Those seeing me without -- fled from me.

I have been forgotten as dead out of mind, I have been as a perishing vessel.

For I have heard an evil account of many, Fear [is] round about. In their being united against me, To take my life they have devised,

And I on Thee -- I have trusted, O Jehovah, I have said, `Thou [art] my God.'

In Thy hand [are] my times, Deliver me from the hand of my enemies, And from my pursuers.

Cause Thy face to shine on Thy servant, Save me in Thy kindness.

O Jehovah, let me not be ashamed, For I have called Thee, let the wicked be ashamed, Let them become silent to Sheol.

Let lips of falsehood become dumb, That are speaking against the righteous, Ancient sayings, in pride and contempt.

How abundant is Thy goodness, That Thou hast laid up for those fearing Thee,

Thou hast wrought for those trusting in Thee, Before sons of men. Thou hidest them in the secret place of Thy presence, From artifices of man, Thou concealest them in a tabernacle, From the strife of tongues.

Blessed [is] Jehovah, For He hath made marvellous His kindness To me in a city of bulwarks.

And I -- I have said in my haste, `I have been cut off from before Thine eyes,' But Thou hast heard the voice of my supplications, In my crying unto Thee.

Love Jehovah, all ye His saints, Jehovah is keeping the faithful, And recompensing abundantly a proud doer.
