Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
5 Your (A)lovingkindness, O Yahweh, is in the heavens,
Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
6 Your (B)righteousness is like the [a]mountains of God;
Your (C)judgments are like a great deep.
O Yahweh, You (D)save man and beast.
7 How (E)precious is Your lovingkindness, O God!
And the sons of men (F)take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.
8 They [b]are (G)satisfied from the [c]richness of Your house;
And You give them to drink of the (H)river of Your delights.
9 For with You is the (I)fountain of life;
In Your light we see light.
19 “Then I said,
‘How I would set you among [a]My sons
And give you a pleasant land,
The most (A)beautiful inheritance of the nations!’
And I said, ‘You shall call Me, (B)“My Father,”
And not turn away from following Me.’
20 Surely, as a woman treacherously departs from her [b]lover,
So you have (C)dealt treacherously with Me,
O house of Israel,” declares Yahweh.
21 A voice is heard on the (D)bare heights,
The weeping and the supplications of the sons of Israel;
Because they have perverted their way,
They have (E)forgotten Yahweh their God.
22 [c]“Return, O faithless sons;
(F)I will heal your faithlessness.”
“Behold, we come to You,
For You are Yahweh our God.
23 Surely, (G)the hills are a lie,
A tumult on the mountains.
Surely in (H)Yahweh our God
Is the salvation of Israel.
24 “But (I)the shameful thing has devoured the labor of our fathers since our youth, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters. 25 Let us lie down in our (J)shame, and let our dishonor cover us; for we have sinned against Yahweh our God, we and our fathers, (K)from our youth even to this day. And we have not listened to the voice of Yahweh our God.”
Concerning Marriage and Singleness
7 Now concerning the things about which you wrote, it is (A)good for a man not to touch a woman. 2 But because of sexual immoralities, each man is to have his own wife, and each woman is to have her own husband. 3 The husband must [a]fulfill his duty to his wife, and likewise also the wife to her husband. 4 The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise also the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 5 (B)Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and [b]come together again so that (C)Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. 6 But this I say as a concession, (D)not as a command. 7 [c]Yet I wish that all men were (E)even as I myself am. However, (F)each man has his own gift from God, one this way, and another that.
