Psalm 9:9-20

Vav

[a]Yahweh also will be a (A)stronghold for the oppressed,
A stronghold in times of [b]distress;

Vav

10 And [c]those who (B)know Your name will put their trust in You,
For You, O Yahweh, have not (C)forsaken those who seek You.

Zayin

11 Sing praises to Yahweh, who (D)abides in Zion;
(E)Declare among the peoples His acts.
12 For (F)He who [d]requires blood remembers them;
He does not forget (G)the cry of the afflicted.

Heth

13 Be gracious to me, O Yahweh;
See my affliction from those (H)who hate me,
You who (I)lift me up from the gates of death,
14 That I may recount (J)all Your praises,
That in the gates of the daughter of Zion
I may (K)rejoice in Your [e]salvation.

Teth

15 The nations have sunk down (L)in the pit which they have made;
In the (M)net which they hid, their own foot has been caught.
16 Yahweh has (N)made Himself known;
He has (O)executed judgment.
In the work of his own hands the wicked is snared. [f]Higgaion [g]Selah.

Yodh

17 The wicked will [h](P)return to Sheol,
Even all the nations who (Q)forget God.

Kaph

18 For the (R)needy will not always be forgotten,
Nor the (S)hope of the afflicted perish forever.
19 (T)Arise, O Yahweh, do not let man prevail;
Let the nations be (U)judged before You.
20 Put them (V)in fear, O Yahweh;
Let the nations know that they are (W)but men. Selah.

1 Samuel 17:55-18:5

55 Now when Saul saw David going out to meet the Philistine, he said to Abner the commander of the army, “Abner, whose son is (A)this young man?” And Abner said, “By your life, O king, I do not know.” 56 And the king said, “You inquire whose son the youth is.” 57 So when David returned from striking down the Philistine, Abner took him and (B)brought him before Saul with the Philistine’s head in his hand. 58 And Saul said to him, “Whose son are you, young man?” And David answered, “(C)I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.”

Jonathan Cuts a Covenant with David

18 Now it happened when he had finished speaking to Saul, that (D)the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and (E)Jonathan loved him as his own soul. And Saul took him that day and (F)did not let him return to his father’s house. Then (G)Jonathan cut a covenant with David because he loved him as his own soul. (H)And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David, with his armor, even his sword and his bow and his belt. So David went out wherever Saul sent him and [a]prospered; and Saul set him over the men of war. And it was pleasing in the eyes of all the people and also in the eyes of Saul’s servants.

Acts 21:1-16

Paul Sets Out for Jerusalem

21 Now when (A)we had parted from them and had set sail, we came by (B)a straight course to Cos and the next day to Rhodes and from there to Patara; and having found a ship crossing over to (C)Phoenicia, we went aboard and set sail. And when we came in sight of (D)Cyprus, leaving it on the left, we kept sailing to (E)Syria and landed at (F)Tyre; for there the ship was to unload its cargo. And after looking up (G)the disciples, we stayed there seven days; and they kept telling Paul (H)through the Spirit not to set foot in Jerusalem. And when [a]our days there were ended, we left and started on our journey, while they all, with wives and children, (I)escorted us until we were out of the city. After (J)kneeling down on the beach and praying, we said farewell to one another. Then we went on board the ship, and they returned (K)home again.

And when we had finished the voyage from (L)Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais, and after greeting (M)the brothers, we stayed with them for a day. And on the next day we left and came to (N)Caesarea, and entering the house of (O)Philip the (P)evangelist, who was (Q)one of the seven, we stayed with him. Now this man had four virgin daughters who (R)prophesied. 10 And as we were staying there for some days, a prophet named (S)Agabus came down from Judea. 11 And coming to us, he (T)took Paul’s belt and bound his own feet and hands, and said, “This (U)is what the Holy Spirit says: ‘In this way the Jews at Jerusalem will (V)bind the man who owns this belt and (W)deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’” 12 And when we had heard this, we as well as the local residents began begging him (X)not to go up to Jerusalem. 13 Then Paul answered, “What are you doing, crying and breaking my heart? For (Y)I am ready not only to be bound, but even to die at Jerusalem for (Z)the name of the Lord Jesus.” 14 And since he would not be persuaded, we fell silent, saying, “(AA)The will of the Lord be done!”

15 Now after these days we got ready and (AB)started on our way up to Jerusalem. 16 And some of (AC)the disciples from (AD)Caesarea also came with us, taking us to Mnason of (AE)Cyprus, an (AF)early disciple with whom we were to lodge.
