107 1 The Prophet exhorteth all those that are redeemed by the Lord and gathered unto him, to give thanks, 9 for this merciful providence of God governing all things at his good pleasures, 20 sending good and evil, prosperity and adversity to bring men unto him. 42 Therefore as the righteous thereat rejoice, so shall the wicked have their mouth stopped.
1 Praise [a]the Lord, because he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.
2 Let them, [b]which have been redeemed of the Lord, show how he hath delivered them from the hand of the oppressor,
3 And gathered them out of the lands, from the East and from the West, from the North and from the [c]South.
4 When they wandered in the desert and wilderness out of the way, and found no city to dwell in,
5 [d]Both hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
6 Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress,
7 And led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.
8 Let them therefore confess before the Lord his loving kindness, and his wonderful works before the sons of men.
9 For he satisfied the thirsty soul, and filled the hungry soul with goodness.
10 They that dwell in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in misery and iron,
11 Because they [e]rebelled against the words of the Lord, and despised the counsel of the most High,
12 When he humbled their heart with heaviness, then they fell down, and there was no helper.
13 Then they [f]cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.
14 He brought them out of darkness, and out of the shadow of death, and brake their bands asunder.
15 Let them therefore confess before the Lord his loving-kindness, and his wonderful works before the sons of men.
16 For he hath broken the [g]gates of brass, and burst the bars of iron asunder,
20 1 Miriam dieth. 2 The people murmur. 8 They have water out of the rock. 14 Edom denieth the Israelites passage. 25, 28 The death of Aaron in whose room Eleazar succeedeth.
1 Then the children of Israel came with the whole Congregation to the desert of Zin in the first [a]month, and the people abode at Kadesh: where [b]Miriam died, and was buried there.
2 But there was no water for the Congregation, and they [c]assembled themselves against Moses and against Aaron.
3 And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God we had perished (A)when our brethren died before the Lord.
4 (B)Why have ye thus brought the Congregation of the Lord unto this wilderness, that both we and our cattle should die there?
5 Wherefore now have ye made us to come up from Egypt, to bring us into this miserable place, which is no place of seed, nor figs, nor vines, nor pomegranates? neither is there any water to drink.
6 Then Moses and Aaron went from the assembly unto the door of the Tabernacle of the Congregation, and fell upon their faces: and the glory of the Lord appeared unto them.
7 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
8 Take the [d]rod, and gather thou and thy brother Aaron the Congregation together, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes, and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the Congregation and the beasts drink.
9 Then Moses took the rod from before the Lord, as he had commanded him.
10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the Congregation together before the rock: and Moses said unto them, Hear now ye rebels: [e]shall we bring you water out of this rock?
11 Then Moses lift up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice, and the water came out abundantly: so the Congregation, and their beasts drank.
12 ¶ Again, the Lord spake unto Moses, and to Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to [f]sanctify me in the presence of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this Congregation into the land which I have given them.
13 This is the water of [g]Meribah, because the children of Israel strove with the Lord, and he [h]was sanctified in them.
6 [a]Now these things are our [b]examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things (A)as they also lusted.
7 Neither be ye idolaters as were some of them, as it is written, (B)The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed fornication, and fell in one (C)day three and twenty thousand.
9 Neither let us tempt [c]Christ, as some of them also tempted him, and (D)were destroyed of serpents.
10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them (E)also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
11 Now all these things came unto them for examples, and were written to admonish us, upon whom the [d]ends of the world are come.
12 [e]Wherefore, let him that thinketh he standeth, take heed lest he fall.
13 There hath no temptation taken you, but such as appertaineth to [f]man: and God is faithful, which will not suffer you to be tempted above that you be able, but will even [g]give the issue with the temptation, that ye may be able to bear it.
