Version
Psalm 128

Psalm 128[a]

A song of ascents.[b]

128 How blessed is every one of the Lord’s loyal followers,[c]
each one who keeps his commands.[d]
You[e] will eat what you worked so hard to grow.[f]
You will be blessed and secure.[g]
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine[h]
in the inner rooms of your house;
your children[i] will be like olive branches,
as they sit all around your table.
Yes indeed, the man who fears the Lord
will be blessed in this way.[j]
May the Lord bless you[k] from Zion,
that you might see[l] Jerusalem prosper
all the days of your life,
and that you might see[m] your grandchildren.[n]
May Israel experience peace.[o]

Joshua 10:12-14

12 The day the Lord delivered the Amorites over to the Israelites, Joshua prayed to the Lord before Israel:[a]

“O sun, stand still over Gibeon;
O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon!”

13 The sun stood still and the moon stood motionless while the nation took vengeance on its enemies. The event is recorded in the Scroll of the Upright One.[b] The sun stood motionless in the middle of the sky and did not set for about a full day.[c] 14 There has not been a day like it before or since. The Lord listened to a human being, for the Lord fought for Israel!

Matthew 15:1-9

Breaking Human Traditions

15 Then Pharisees[a] and experts in the law[b] came from Jerusalem to Jesus and said,[c] “Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their[d] hands when they eat.”[e] He answered them,[f] “And why do you disobey the commandment of God because of your tradition? For God said,[g]Honor your father and mother[h] and ‘Whoever insults his father or mother must be put to death.’[i] But you say, ‘If someone tells his father or mother, “Whatever help you would have received from me is given to God,”[j] he does not need to honor his father.’[k] You have nullified the word of God on account of your tradition. Hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied correctly about you when he said,

This people honors me with their lips,
but their heart[l] is far from me,
and they worship me in vain,
teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”[m]
