Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Vav
41 May Your (A)lovingkindnesses also come to me, O Yahweh,
Your salvation (B)according to Your [a]word;
42 So I will have an (C)answer for him who (D)reproaches me,
For I trust in Your word.
43 And do not take away the word of truth utterly from my mouth,
For I [b](E)wait for Your judgments.
44 So I will (F)keep Your law continually,
Forever and ever.
45 And I will (G)walk in a wide place,
For I (H)seek Your precepts.
46 I will also speak of Your testimonies (I)before kings
And I shall not be ashamed.
47 I shall [c](J)delight in Your commandments,
Which I (K)love.
48 And I shall lift up my hands to Your commandments,
Which I (L)love;
And I will (M)muse on Your statutes.
Yahweh and Abraham Speak About Sodom
16 Then (A)the men rose up from there and looked down toward Sodom; and Abraham was walking with them to send them off. 17 (B)Now Yahweh said, “Shall I conceal from Abraham (C)what I am about to do, 18 since Abraham will surely become a great and [a]mighty nation, and in him (D)all the nations of the earth will be blessed? 19 For I have [b](E)known him, so that he may (F)command his children and his household after him, (G)that they keep the way of Yahweh to do righteousness and justice, so that Yahweh may bring upon Abraham (H)what He has spoken about him.” 20 So Yahweh said, “(I)The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave. 21 I will (J)go down now and see whether they have done entirely according to its outcry, which has come to Me; and if not, I will know.”
22 Then (K)the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, while Abraham was still standing before (L)Yahweh. 23 Then Abraham came near and said, “(M)Will You indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city; will You indeed sweep it away and not [c]spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous who are in it? 25 Far be it from You to do [d]such a thing, to put to death the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous and the wicked are treated alike. Far be it from You! Shall not (N)the Judge of all the earth do justice?” 26 So Yahweh said, “(O)If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will [e]spare the whole place on their account.” 27 And Abraham answered and said, “Now behold, I have [f]ventured to speak to the Lord, although I am but (P)dust and ashes. 28 Suppose the fifty righteous are lacking five, will You destroy the whole city because of five?” And He said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.” 29 Then he spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose forty are found there?” And He said, “I will not do it on account of the forty.” 30 Then he said, “Oh may the Lord not be angry, and I shall speak; suppose thirty are found there?” And He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.” 31 And he said, “Now behold, I have [g]ventured to speak to the Lord; suppose twenty are found there?” And He said, “I will not destroy it on account of the twenty.” 32 Then he said, “(Q)Oh may the Lord not be angry, and I shall speak only this once; suppose ten are found there?” And He said, “I will not destroy it on account of the ten.” 33 And as soon as He had finished speaking to Abraham, (R)Yahweh departed, and Abraham returned to his place.
Lord of the Sabbath
12 (A)At that [a]time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples became hungry and began to (B)pick the heads of grain and eat. 2 But when the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples do what (C)is not lawful to do on a Sabbath.” 3 But He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and his companions, 4 how he entered the house of God, and (D)they ate the [b]consecrated bread, which was not lawful for him to eat nor for those with him, but for the priests alone? 5 Or have you not read in the Law, that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple [c]break the Sabbath and are innocent? 6 But I say to you that something (E)greater than the temple is here. 7 But if you had known what this [d]means, ‘(F)I desire [e]compassion, and not a sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent. 8 For (G)the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
