Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
BOOK 5
The Lord Delivers Men from Manifold Troubles.
17 Fools, because of [a]their rebellious way,
And (A)because of their iniquities, were afflicted.
18 Their (B)soul abhorred all kinds of food,
And they (C)drew near to the (D)gates of death.
19 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble;
He saved them out of their distresses.
20 He (E)sent His word and (F)healed them,
And (G)delivered them from their [b]destructions.
21 (H)Let them give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness,
And for His [c]wonders to the sons of men!
22 Let them also offer (I)sacrifices of thanksgiving,
And (J)tell of His works with joyful singing.
22 Now when they set out from (A)Kadesh, the sons of Israel, the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor.
Death of Aaron
23 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron at (B)Mount Hor by the border of the land of Edom, saying, 24 “Aaron will be (C)gathered to his people; for he shall not enter the land which I have given to the sons of Israel, because (D)you rebelled against My [a]command at the waters of Meribah. 25 Take Aaron and his son (E)Eleazar and bring them up to Mount Hor; 26 and strip Aaron of his garments and put them on his son Eleazar. So Aaron will be (F)gathered to his people, and will die there.” 27 So Moses did just as the Lord had commanded, and they went up to Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation. 28 After Moses had stripped Aaron of his garments and (G)put them on his son Eleazar, (H)Aaron died there on the mountain top. Then Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain. 29 When all the congregation saw that Aaron had died, all the house of Israel wept for Aaron thirty (I)days.
The New Birth
3 Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named (A)Nicodemus, a (B)ruler of the Jews; 2 this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “(C)Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these [a](D)signs that You do unless (E)God is with him.” 3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one (F)is born [b]again he cannot see (G)the kingdom of God.”
4 Nicodemus *said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of (H)water and the Spirit he cannot enter into (I)the kingdom of God. 6 (J)That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born [c]again.’ 8 (K)The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
9 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can these things be?” 10 Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you (L)the teacher of Israel and do not understand these things? 11 Truly, truly, I say to you, (M)we speak of what we know and (N)testify of what we have seen, and (O)you do not accept our testimony. 12 If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 (P)No one has ascended into heaven, but (Q)He who descended from heaven: (R)the Son of Man.
