Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
BOOK 5
The Lord Delivers Men from Manifold Troubles.
17 Fools, because of [a]their rebellious way,
And (A)because of their iniquities, were afflicted.
18 Their (B)soul abhorred all kinds of food,
And they (C)drew near to the (D)gates of death.
19 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble;
He saved them out of their distresses.
20 He (E)sent His word and (F)healed them,
And (G)delivered them from their [b]destructions.
21 (H)Let them give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness,
And for His [c]wonders to the sons of men!
22 Let them also offer (I)sacrifices of thanksgiving,
And (J)tell of His works with joyful singing.
5 Then I, Daniel, looked and behold, two others were standing, one on this bank of the river and the other on that bank of the river. 6 And (A)one said to the man (B)dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “(C)How long will it be until the end of these wonders?” 7 I heard the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, [a]as he (D)raised his right hand and his left toward heaven, and swore by (E)Him who lives forever that it would be for a [b](F)time, [c]times, and half a [d]time; and as soon as [e]they finish (G)shattering the [f]power of the holy people, all these events will be completed. 8 As for me, I heard but could not understand; so I said, “My lord, what will be the [g]outcome of these events?” 9 He said, “Go your way, Daniel, for these words are concealed and (H)sealed up until the end time. 10 (I)Many will be purged, [h]purified and refined, but the (J)wicked will act wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand, but [i]those who (K)have insight will understand. 11 From the time that the regular sacrifice is abolished and the [j](L)abomination of desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. 12 How (M)blessed is he who keeps waiting and attains to the (N)1,335 days! 13 But as for you, go your way to the [k]end; then you will enter into (O)rest and rise again for your (P)allotted portion at the end of the [l]age.”
7 (A)In [a]Him we have (B)redemption (C)through His blood, the (D)forgiveness of our trespasses, according to (E)the riches of His grace 8 which He [b]lavished on [c]us. In all wisdom and insight 9 He [d](F)made known to us the mystery of His will, (G)according to His [e]kind intention which He (H)purposed in Him 10 with a view to an administration [f]suitable to (I)the fullness of the times, that is, (J)the summing up of all things in Christ, things [g]in the heavens and things on the earth. In Him 11 [h]also we [i](K)have obtained an inheritance, having been (L)predestined (M)according to His purpose who works all things (N)after the counsel of His will, 12 to the end that we who were the first to hope in [j]Christ would be (O)to the praise of His glory. 13 In [k]Him, you also, after listening to (P)the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also [l]believed, you were (Q)sealed in [m]Him with (R)the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is [n](S)given as a pledge of (T)our inheritance, with a view to the (U)redemption of (V)God’s own possession, (W)to the praise of His glory.
