²⁴ And he increased his people exceedingly: and strengthened them over their enemies,

²⁵ He turned their heart to hate his people: and to deal deceitfully with his servants.

²⁶ He sent Moses his servant: Aaron the man whom he had chosen.

²⁷ He gave them power to shew his signs, and his wonders in the land of Cham.

²⁸ He sent darkness, and made it obscure: and grieved not his words.

²⁹ He turned their waters into blood, and destroyed their fish.

³⁰ Their land brought forth frogs, in the inner chambers of their kings.

³¹ He spoke, and there came divers sorts of flies and sciniphs in all their coasts.

³² He gave them hail for rain, a burning fire in the land.

³³ And he destroyed their vineyards and their fig trees: and he broke in pieces the trees of their coasts.

³⁴ He spoke, and the locust came, and the bruchus, of which there was no number.

³⁵ And they devoured all the grass in their land, and consumed all the fruit of their ground.

²⁴ Moses therefore came, and told the people the words of the Lord, and assembled seventy men of the ancients of Israel, and made them to stand about the tabernacle.

²⁵ And the Lord came down in a cloud, and spoke to him, taking away of the spirit that was in Moses, and giving to the seventy men. And when the spirit had rested on them they prophesied, nor did they cease afterwards.

²⁶ Now there remained in the camp two of the men, of whom one was called Eldad, and the other Medad, upon whom the spirit rested; for they also had been enrolled, but were not gone forth to the tabernacle.

²⁷ And when they prophesied in the camp, there ran a young man, and told Moses, saying: Eldad and Medad prophesy in the camp.

²⁸ Forthwith Josue the son of Nun, the minister of Moses, and chosen out of many, said: My lord Moses forbid them.

²⁹ But he said: Why hast thou emulation for me? O that all the people might prophesy, and that the Lord would give them his spirit!

³⁰ And Moses returned, with the ancients of Israel, into the camp.

³⁷ And on the last, and great day of the festivity, Jesus stood and cried, saying: If any man thirst, let him come to me, and drink.

³⁸ He that believeth in me, as the scripture saith, Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

³⁹ Now this he said of the Spirit which they should receive, who believed in him: for as yet the Spirit was not given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
