Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
2 1 The song of Hannah. 12 The sons of Eli, wicked. 13 The new custom of the Priests. 18 Samuel ministereth before the Lord. 20 Eli blesseth Elkanah and his wife. 23 Eli reproveth his sons. 27 God sendeth a Prophet to Eli. 31 Eli is menaced for not chastising his children.
1 And Hannah [a]prayed, and said, Mine heart rejoiceth in the Lord, mine [b]horn is exalted in the Lord: my mouth is [c]enlarged over mine enemies, because I rejoice in thy salvation.
2 There is none holy as the Lord: yea, there is none besides thee, and there is no god like our God.
3 Speak [d]no more presumptuously: let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him enterprises are established.
4 The bow and the mighty men are broken, and the weak have girded themselves with strength.
5 They that were full, are hired forth for [e]bread, and the hungry are no more hired, so that the barren hath borne [f]seven: and she that had many children is feeble.
6 (A)The Lord killeth and maketh alive: bringeth down to the grave and raiseth up.
7 The Lord maketh poor and maketh rich: bringeth low, and exalteth.
8 (B)He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among [g]princes, and to make them inherit the seat of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the [h]Lord’s, and he hath set the world upon them.
9 He will keep the feet of his Saints, and the wicked shall keep silence in darkness: for in his own might shall no man be strong.
10 The Lord’s adversaries shall be destroyed, and out of heaven shall he (C)thunder upon them: the Lord shall judge the ends of the world, and shall give power unto his [i]King, and exalt the horn of his Anointed.
21 ¶ So the man [a]Elkanah and all his house, went up to offer unto the Lord the yearly sacrifice and his vow:
22 But Hannah went not up: for she said unto her husband, I will tarry until the child be weaned, then I will bring him that he may appear before the Lord, and there abide forever.
23 And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee best: tarry until thou hast weaned him: only the Lord accomplish his [b]word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.
24 ¶ And when she had weaned him, she took him with her with three bullocks and an Ephah of flour and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the Lord in Shiloh, and the child was [c]young.
25 And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli.
26 And she said, Oh my Lord, as thy [d]soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood with thee here praying unto the Lord.
27 I prayed for this child, and the Lord hath given me my desire which I asked of him.
28 Therefore also I have [e]given him unto the Lord: as long as he liveth he shall be given unto the Lord: and he [f]worshipped the Lord there.
11 [a]But thou, O [b]man of God, flee these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith: lay hold of eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
13 (A)[c]I charge thee in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Jesus Christ, which under Pontius Pilate (B)witnessed a good confession.
14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, and unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 Which in due time he shall show, that is (C)[d] blessed and Prince only, the King of kings and Lord of lords.
16 Who only hath immortality, and dwelleth in the light that none can attain unto, (D)whom never man saw, neither can see, unto whom be honor and power everlasting, Amen.
17 [e]Charge them that are rich in [f]this world, that they be not high minded, and that they (E)trust not in uncertain riches, but in the [g]living God, (which giveth us abundantly all things to enjoy.)
18 That they do good, and be rich in good works, and be ready to distribute, and communicate,
19 (F)[h]Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may obtain eternal life.
20 [i]O Timothy, keep that which is committed unto thee, and avoid profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called,
21 Which while some [j]profess, they have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee, Amen.
