Psalm 23

The Lord Is My Shepherd

A Psalm of David.

23 The Lord is my (A)shepherd; I shall not (B)want.
    He makes me lie down in green (C)pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.[a]
    He (D)restores my soul.
He (E)leads me in (F)paths of righteousness[b]
    for his (G)name's sake.
Even though I (H)walk through the valley of (I)the shadow of death,[c]
    I will (J)fear no evil,
for (K)you are with me;
    your (L)rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.
You (M)prepare a table before me
    in (N)the presence of my enemies;
you (O)anoint my head with oil;
    my (P)cup overflows.
Surely[d] goodness and mercy[e] shall follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I shall (Q)dwell[f] in the house of the Lord
    (R)for ever.[g]

Isaiah 22:8-14

He has taken away (A)the covering of Judah.

In that day you looked to (B)the weapons of the House of the Forest, and you saw that (C)the breaches of the city of David were many. (D)You collected the waters of the lower pool, 10 and you counted the houses of Jerusalem, and you broke down the houses to fortify the wall. 11 (E)You made a reservoir between (F)the two walls for the water of (G)the old pool. But (H)you did not look to him who did it, or see him who planned it long ago.

12 In that day (I)the Lord God of hosts
    called for weeping and mourning,
    for (J)baldness and (K)wearing sackcloth;
13 and behold, joy and gladness,
    killing oxen and slaughtering sheep,
    eating flesh and drinking wine.
(L)“Let us eat and drink,
    for tomorrow we die.”
14 The Lord of hosts (M)has revealed himself in my ears:
“Surely (N)this iniquity will not be atoned for you (O)until you die,”
    says the Lord God of hosts.

James 4:4-10

(A)You adulterous people![a] Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? (B)Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit (C)that he has made to dwell in us”? But (D)he gives more grace. Therefore it says, (E)“God opposes the proud, but (F)gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. (G)Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (H)Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. (I)Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and (J)purify your hearts, (K)you double-minded. (L)Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 (M)Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
