7 Because (A)for Your sake I have endured disgrace;
(B)Dishonor has covered my face.
8 I have become (C)estranged [a]from my brothers,
And a stranger to my mother’s sons.
9 For (D)zeal for Your house has consumed me,
And (E)the taunts of those who taunt You have fallen on me.
10 When I wept (F)in my soul with fasting,
It became my (G)disgrace.
11 When I made (A)sackcloth my clothing,
I became (B)a proverb to them.
12 Those who (C)sit in the gate talk about me,
And (D)songs of mockery by those habitually drunk are about me.
13 But as for me, my prayer is to You, Lord, (E)at an acceptable time;
God, in the (F)greatness of Your mercy,
Answer me with [a]Your saving truth.
14 Rescue me from the (G)mud and do not let me sink;
May I be (H)rescued from those who hate me, and from the (I)depths of water.
15 May the [b](J)flood of water not overflow me
Nor the deep swallow me up,
Nor the (K)pit close its mouth on me.
12 But (A)they will say, ‘It’s hopeless! For we are going to follow our own plans, and each of us will [a]persist in the (B)stubbornness of his evil heart.’
13 “Therefore this is what the Lord says:
‘(C)Just ask among the nations,
Who ever heard anything like [b]this?
The (D)virgin of Israel
Has done a most (E)appalling thing.
14 Does the snow of Lebanon leave the rock of the open country alone?
Or is the cold flowing water from a foreign land ever dried up?
15 For (F)My people have forgotten Me,
(G)They burn incense [c]to worthless gods.
And they [d]have stumbled in their ways,
In the (H)ancient roads,
To walk on paths,
Not on a (I)highway,
16 To make their land a (J)desolation,
An object of perpetual (K)hissing;
Everyone who passes by it will be astonished
And (L)shake his head.
17 Like an (M)east wind I will (N)scatter them
Before the enemy;
I will [e]show them (O)My back and not My face
(P)In the day of their disaster.’”
Earth Subject to Man
5 For He did not subject to angels [a](A)the world to come, about which we are speaking. 6 But someone has testified (B)somewhere, saying,
“(C)What is man, that You think of him?
Or a son of man, that You are concerned about him?
7 (D)You have made him [b]for a little while lower than angels;
You have crowned him with glory and honor[c];
8 (E)You have put everything in subjection under his feet.”
For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now (F)we do not yet see all things subjected to him.
Jesus Briefly Humbled
9 But we do see Him who was (G)made [d]for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, (H)because of His suffering death (I)crowned with glory and honor, so that (J)by the grace of God He might (K)taste death (L)for everyone.
