Acts 2:14

Peter’s Sermon

14 But Peter, taking his stand with (A)the other eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, [a]know this, and pay attention to my words.

Acts 2:36-41

36 Therefore let all the (A)house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both (B)Lord and [a]Christ—this Jesus (C)whom you crucified.”

37 Now when they heard this, they were [b]pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “[c]Brothers, (D)what are we to do?” 38 Peter said to them, “(E)Repent, and each of you be (F)baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For (G)the promise is for you and your children and for all who are (H)far away, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.” 40 And with many other words he solemnly (I)testified and kept on urging them, saying, “[d]Be saved from this (J)perverse generation!” 41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand [e](K)souls.

Psalm 116:1-4

Thanksgiving for Rescue from Death.

116 (A)I love the Lord, because He (B)hears
My voice and my pleas.
Because He has (C)inclined His ear to me,
Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.
The (D)snares of death encompassed me
And the [a]terrors of [b]Sheol [c]came upon me;
I found distress and sorrow.
Then (E)I called upon the name of the Lord:
“Please, Lord, (F)save my [d]life!”

Psalm 116:12-19

12 What shall I (A)repay to the Lord
For all His (B)benefits [a]to me?
13 I will lift up the (C)cup of salvation,
And (D)call upon the name of the Lord.
14 I will (E)pay my vows to the Lord;
May it be (F)in the presence of all His people!
15 (G)Precious in the sight of the Lord
Is the death of His godly ones.
16 O Lord, [b]I surely am (H)Your slave,
I am Your slave, the (I)son of Your female slave,
You have (J)unfastened my restraints.
17 I will offer You (K)a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And (L)call upon the name of the Lord.
18 I will (M)pay my vows to the Lord,
May it be in the presence of all His people,
19 In the (N)courtyards of the Lords house,
In the midst of you, (O)Jerusalem!
[c]Praise [d]the Lord!

1 Peter 1:17-23

17 If you (A)address as Father the One who (B)impartially (C)judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves (D)in fear during the time of your (E)stay on earth; 18 knowing that you were not [a](F)redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your (G)futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19 but with precious (H)blood, as of a (I)lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. 20 For He was (J)foreknown before (K)the foundation of the world, but has (L)appeared [b]in these last times (M)for the sake of you 21 who through Him are (N)believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and (O)gave Him glory, so that your faith and (P)hope are in God.

22 Since you have (Q)purified your souls (R)in obedience to the truth for a (S)sincere love of the brothers and sisters, fervently love one another from [c]the heart, 23 for you have been (T)born again (U)not of seed which is perishable, but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring (V)word of God.

Luke 24:13-35

The Road to Emmaus

13 And behold, on that very day (A)two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, which was [a]sixty stadia from Jerusalem. 14 And they were talking with each other about all these things which had taken place. 15 While they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself approached and began traveling with them. 16 But (B)their eyes were kept from recognizing Him. 17 And He said to them, “What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?” And they came to a stop, looking sad. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to Him, “Are You possibly the only one living near Jerusalem [b]who does not know about the things that happened here in these days?” 19 And He said to them, “What sort of things?” And they said to Him, “Those about (C)Jesus the Nazarene, who proved to be a (D)prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people, 20 and how the chief priests and our (E)rulers handed Him over to be sentenced to death, and crucified Him. 21 But we [c]were hoping that it was He who was going to (F)redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. 22 But also some women among us left us bewildered. (G)When they were at the tomb early in the morning, 23 and did not find His body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive. 24 And so some of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but Him they did not see.” 25 And then He said to them, [d]You foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that (H)the prophets have spoken! 26 (I)Was it not necessary for the [e]Christ to suffer these things and to come into His glory?” 27 Then beginning [f]with (J)Moses and [g]with all the (K)Prophets, He explained to them the things written about Himself in all the Scriptures.

28 And they approached the village where they were going, and (L)He gave the impression that He was going farther. 29 And so they strongly urged Him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day [h]is now nearly over.” So He went in to stay with them. 30 And it came about, when He had reclined at the table with them, that He took the bread and (M)blessed it, and He broke it and began giving it to them. 31 And then their (N)eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from [i]their sight. 32 They said to one another, “[j]Were our hearts not burning within us when He was speaking to us on the road, while He (O)was [k]explaining the Scriptures to us?” 33 And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and (P)found the eleven gathered together and (Q)those who were with them, 34 saying, “(R)The Lord has really risen and (S)has appeared to Simon!” 35 They began to relate [l]their experiences on the road, and how (T)He was recognized by them at the breaking of the bread.
