Give Ear to My Voice
A Psalm of David.
141 O Lord, I call upon you; (A)hasten to me!
Give ear to my voice when I call to you!
2 Let (B)my prayer be counted as incense before you,
and (C)the lifting up of my hands as (D)the evening sacrifice!
3 (E)Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth;
(F)keep watch over the door of my lips!
4 (G)Do not let my heart incline to any evil,
to busy myself with wicked deeds
in company with men who (H)work iniquity,
and (I)let me not eat of their delicacies!
5 (J)Let a righteous man strike me—it is a kindness;
let him rebuke me—it is oil for my head;
let my head not refuse it.
Yet (K)my prayer is continually against their evil deeds.
6 When their judges are (L)thrown over the cliff,[a]
then they shall hear my words, for they are pleasant.
7 As when one ploughs and breaks up the earth,
so shall our bones (M)be scattered at the mouth of Sheol.[b]
8 But (N)my eyes are towards you, O God, my Lord;
(O)in you I seek refuge; leave me not defenceless![c]
9 Keep me from (P)the trap that they have laid for me
and from the snares of evildoers!
10 Let the wicked (Q)fall into their own nets,
while I pass by safely.
The Glory of the Lord Fills the Temple
43 Then he led me to (A)the gate, the gate facing east. 2 And behold, (B)the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the east. And (C)the sound of his coming was like the sound of many waters, and (D)the earth shone with his glory. 3 And (E)the vision I saw was just like the vision that I had seen (F)when he[a] came to destroy the city, and just like (G)the vision that I had seen (H)by the Chebar canal. And (I)I fell on my face. 4 As (J)the glory of the Lord (K)entered the temple by the gate facing east, 5 (L)the Spirit lifted me up and brought me into (M)the inner court; and behold, (N)the glory of the Lord filled the temple.
6 (O)While the man was standing beside me, (P)I heard one speaking to me out of the temple, 7 and he said to me, (Q)“Son of man, this is (R)the place of my throne and (S)the place of the soles of my feet, (T)where I will dwell in the midst of the people of Israel for ever. And the house of Israel shall no more (U)defile my holy name, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoring and by the dead bodies[b] of their kings at their high places,[c] 8 by setting their threshold by my threshold and their doorposts beside my doorposts, with (V)only a wall between me and them. They have (W)defiled my holy name by their abominations that they have committed, so I have consumed them in my anger. 9 Now let them put away their whoring and the dead bodies of their kings far from me, (X)and I will dwell in their midst for ever.
10 “As for you, (Y)son of man, (Z)describe to the house of Israel the temple, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities; and they shall measure the plan. 11 And if they are ashamed of all that they have done, (AA)make known to them the design of the temple, its arrangement, (AB)its exits and its entrances, that is, its whole design; and make known to them as well all its statutes and its whole design and all its laws, and write it down (AC)in their sight, so that they may observe all its laws and all its statutes and carry them out. 12 This is the law of the temple: the whole territory on the top of (AD)the mountain (AE)all round shall be most holy. Behold, this is the law of the temple.
Lament over Jerusalem
37 (A)“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that (B)kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have (C)gathered (D)your children together (E)as a hen gathers her brood (F)under her wings, and (G)you would not! 38 See, (H)your house is left to you desolate. 39 For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, (I)‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”
Jesus Foretells Destruction of the Temple
24 (J)Jesus left the temple and was going away, when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple. 2 But he answered them, “You see all these, do you not? Truly, I say to you, (K)there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.”
Signs of the Close of the Age
3 As he sat on (L)the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him (M)privately, saying, “Tell us, (N)when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your (O)coming and of (P)the close of the age?” 4 And Jesus answered them, (Q)“See that no one leads you astray. 5 For (R)many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am (S)the Christ’, and they will lead many astray. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that you (T)are not alarmed, for this (U)must take place, but the end is not yet. 7 For (V)nation will rise against nation, and (W)kingdom against kingdom, and there will be (X)famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are but the beginning of (Y)the birth pains.
9 “Then (Z)they will deliver you up (AA)to tribulation and (AB)put you to death, and (AC)you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then many will fall away[a] and (AD)betray one another and hate one another. 11 And many (AE)false prophets will arise (AF)and lead many astray. 12 And because lawlessness will be increased, (AG)the love of many will grow cold. 13 (AH)But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom (AI)will be proclaimed throughout the whole world (AJ)as a testimony (AK)to all nations, and (AL)then the end will come.
