In the Shadow of Your Wings

A (A)Prayer of David.

17 Hear a just cause, O Lord; (B)attend to my cry!
    Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit!
From your presence (C)let my vindication come!
    Let your eyes behold the right!
You have (D)tried my heart, you have (E)visited me by (F)night,
    you have (G)tested me, and you will find nothing;
    I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress.
With regard to the works of man, by the word of your lips
    I have avoided the ways of the violent.
My steps have (H)held fast to your paths;
    my feet have not slipped.
I (I)call upon you, for you will answer me, O God;
    (J)incline your ear to me; hear my words.
(K)Wondrously show[a] your steadfast love,
    O Saviour of those who seek refuge
    from (L)their adversaries at your right hand.
Keep me as (M)the apple of your eye;
    hide me in (N)the shadow of your wings,
from the wicked who do me violence,
    my deadly enemies who (O)surround me.

Exodus 3:13-20

13 Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you’, and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” 14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am.”[a] And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, (A)I am has sent me to you.’” 15 God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘The Lord,[b] the (B)God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is (C)my name for ever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations. 16 Go and (D)gather the elders of Israel together and say to them, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying, (E)“I have observed you and what has been done to you in Egypt, 17 and I promise that (F)I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, a land (G)flowing with milk and honey.”’ 18 And (H)they will listen to your voice, and you and the elders of Israel (I)shall go to the king of Egypt and say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has (J)met with us; and now, please let us go a three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.’ 19 But I know that the king of Egypt (K)will not let you go unless compelled (L)by a mighty hand.[c] 20 So (M)I will stretch out my hand and strike Egypt with (N)all the wonders that I will do in it; (O)after that he will let you go.

Luke 20:1-8

The Authority of Jesus Challenged

20 (A)One day, (B)as Jesus[a] was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, (C)the chief priests and the scribes with the elders came up and said to him, “Tell us (D)by what authority you do these things, or who it is that gave you this authority.” He answered them, “I also will ask you a question. Now tell me, was the baptism of John (E)from heaven or from man?” And they discussed it with one another, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven’, he will say, (F)‘Why did you not believe him?’ But if we say, ‘From man’, all the people will stone us to death, for they are convinced that John was (G)a prophet.” So they answered that they did not know where it came from. And Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
