Yahweh Is My Rock and My Fortress

For the choir director. Of the servant of Yahweh, of David, [a]who spoke to Yahweh the words of this song in the day that Yahweh delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.

18 He said, “I love You, O Yahweh, (A)my strength.”
Yahweh is (B)my [b]rock and (C)my fortress and my (D)deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My (E)shield and the (F)horn of my salvation, my (G)stronghold.
I call upon Yahweh, who is (H)worthy to be praised,
And I am (I)saved from my enemies.

The (J)cords of death encompassed me,
And the (K)torrents of vileness [c]terrified me.
The (L)cords of Sheol surrounded me;
The snares of death confronted me.
In my (M)distress I called upon Yahweh,
And cried to my God for help;
He heard my voice (N)out of His temple,
And my (O)cry for help before Him came into His ears.

Then the (P)earth shook and quaked;
And the (Q)foundations of the mountains were trembling
And were shaken, because He was angry.
Smoke went up [d]out of His nostrils,
And (R)fire from His mouth devoured;
Coals were kindled by it.
He (S)bowed the heavens and came down
With thick (T)darkness under His feet.
10 He rode upon a (U)cherub and flew;
And He sped upon the (V)wings of the wind.
11 He made (W)darkness His hiding place, (X)His [e]canopy around Him,
Darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.
12 From the (Y)brightness before Him passed His thick clouds,
Hailstones and (Z)coals of fire.
13 Yahweh also (AA)thundered in the heavens,
And the Most High gave forth His voice,
Hailstones and coals of fire.
14 He (AB)sent out His arrows, and scattered them,
And lightning flashes in abundance, and [f]threw them into confusion.
15 Then the (AC)channels of water appeared,
And the foundations of the world were [g]laid bare
At Your (AD)rebuke, O Yahweh,
At the blast of the (AE)breath of Your nostrils.

16 He (AF)sent from on high, He took me;
He drew me out of (AG)many waters.
17 He (AH)delivered me from my strong enemy,
And from those who hated me, for they were (AI)too mighty for me.
18 They confronted me in (AJ)the day of my disaster,
But (AK)Yahweh was my support.
19 He brought me forth also into a (AL)broad place;
He rescued me, because (AM)He delighted in me.

Job 36:24-33

24 “Remember that you should (A)exalt His work,
Of which men have (B)sung.
25 All men have beheld it;
Man looks from afar.
26 Behold, God is (C)exalted, and (D)we do not know Him;
The (E)number of His years is unsearchable.
27 For (F)He draws up the drops of water,
They distill rain for His [a]stream,
28 Which the clouds pour down,
They drip upon man abundantly.
29 Can anyone discern the (G)spreading of the clouds,
The (H)thundering of His [b]pavilion?
30 Behold, He spreads His [c]lightning about Him,
And He covers the depths of the sea.
31 For by these He (I)judges peoples;
He (J)gives food in abundance.
32 He covers His hands with the [d]lightning,
And (K)commands it to strike the mark.
33 Its (L)thundering declares about Him;
The cattle also, concerning what is coming up.

Job 37:14-24

14 “Give ear to this, O Job,
Stand and carefully consider the wondrous deeds of God.
15 Do you know how God establishes them,
And makes the [a]lightning of His cloud to shine?
16 Do you know about the layers of the thick clouds,
The (A)wonders of one [b](B)perfect in knowledge,
17 You whose garments are hot,
When the land is quiet because of the south wind?
18 Can you, with Him, (C)spread out the skies,
Strong as a molten mirror?
19 Make us know what we shall say to Him;
We (D)cannot arrange our case because of darkness.
20 Shall it be recounted to Him that I would speak?
[c]If a man says a word, will He indeed be swallowed up?

21 “So now [d]men do not see the light which is bright in the skies;
But the wind has passed and cleared them.
22 Out of the north comes golden splendor;
Around God is fearsome majesty.
23 The Almighty—(E)we cannot find Him;
He is (F)exalted in power
And (G)He will not afflict (H)justice and abundant righteousness.
24 Therefore men (I)fear Him;
He does not (J)regard any who are wise of heart.”

Matthew 8:23-27

Jesus Calms a Storm

23 (A)And when He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 And behold, there arose [a]a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered with the waves; but Jesus Himself was sleeping. 25 And they came to Him and got Him up, saying, “(B)Save us, Lord; we are perishing!” 26 And He *said to them, “Why are you so cowardly, (C)you men of little faith?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and [b]it became perfectly calm. 27 And the men marveled, and said, “What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”
