Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
32 1 David punished with grievous sickness for his sins, counteth them blessed to whom God doth not impute their transgressions. 5 And after that he had confessed his sins, and obtained pardon, 6 he exhorteth the wicked men to live godly, 11 and the good to rejoice.
A Psalm of David to give [a]instruction.
1 Blessed is he whose wickedness is [b]forgiven, and whose sin is covered.
2 Blessed is the man, unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.
3 When I held my [c]tongue, my bones consumed, or when I [d]roared all the day,
4 (For thine hand is heavy upon me day and night: and my moisture is turned into the drought of Summer. Selah.)
5 Then I [e]acknowledged my sin unto thee, neither hid I mine iniquity: for I thought, I will confess against myself my wickedness unto the Lord, and thou forgavest the punishment of my sin. Selah.
6 Therefore shall everyone that is godly, make his prayer unto thee in a [f]time, when thou mayest be found: surely in the flood of great waters [g]they shall not come near him.
7 Thou art my secret place: thou preservest me from trouble: thou compassest me about with joyful deliverance. Selah.
8 I will [h]instruct thee, and teach thee in the way that thou shalt go, and I will guide thee with mine eye.
9 Be ye not like an horse, or like a mule which understand not: whose [i]mouths thou dost bind with bit and bridle, lest they come near thee.
10 Many sorrows shall come to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass him.
11 Be glad ye righteous, and [j]rejoice in the Lord, and be joyful all ye, that are upright in heart.
19 5 Elijah fleeing from Jezebel, is nourished by the Angel of God. 15 He is commanded to anoint Hazael, Jehu, and Elisha.
1 Now Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had slain all the [a]prophets with the sword.
2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, [b]The gods do so to me and more also, if I make not thy life like one of their lives by tomorrow this time.
3 ¶ When he saw that, he arose, and went [c]for his life, and came to Beersheba, which is in Judah, and left his servant there.
4 But he went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a Juniper tree, and desired that he might die, and said, It is now enough: O Lord, [d]take my soul, for I am no better than my fathers.
5 And as he lay and slept under the Juniper tree, behold now, an Angel touched him, and said unto him, Up, and eat.
6 And when he looked about, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a pot of water at his head: so he did eat and drink, and returned and slept.
7 And the Angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Up, and eat: for [e]thou hast a great journey.
8 ¶ Then he arose, and did eat and drink, and walked in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights, unto Horeb the mount of God.
10 [a]For it became [b]him, for whom are all these things, and by whom are all these things, [c]seeing that he brought many children unto glory, [d]that he should consecrate the [e]Prince of their salvation through afflictions.
11 [f]For he that [g]sanctifieth, and they which are sanctified, are all of [h]one: wherefore he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
12 [i]Saying, (A)I will declare thy Name unto my brethren: in the midst of the Church will I sing praises to thee.
13 [j]And again, (B)I will put my [k]trust in him. And again, (C)[l]Behold, here am I, and the children which God hath given me.
14 Forasmuch then as the children are [m]partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part with them, that he might destroy (D)through death, him that had the [n]power of death, that is, the [o]devil,
15 And that he might deliver all them, which for fear of [p]death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
16 [q]For he in no sort took on him the [r]Angels’ nature, but he took on him the [s]seed of Abraham.
17 [t]Wherefore in [u]all things it behooved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be [v]merciful, and a [w]faithful high Priest in things concerning God, that he might make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
18 For in that he suffered, and was [x]tempted, he is able to succor them that are tempted.
