146 Praise ye the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul!

² While I live will I praise the Lord; I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.

³ Put not your trust in princes, nor in a son of man in whom there is no help.

⁴ His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

⁵ Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God,

⁶ who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that therein is, who keepeth truth for ever;

⁷ who executeth judgment for the oppressed, who giveth food to the hungry; the Lord looseth the prisoners.

⁸ The Lord openeth the eyes of the blind; the Lord raiseth them that are bowed down; the Lord loveth the righteous.

⁹ The Lord preserveth the strangers, He relieveth the fatherless and the widow; but the way of the wicked He turneth upside down.

¹⁰ The Lord shall reign for ever, even Thy God, O Zion, unto all generations. Praise ye the Lord!

¹¹ The rich man is wise in his own conceit, but the poor man that hath understanding searcheth him out.

¹² When righteous men rejoice, there is great glory; but when the wicked rise, men hide themselves.

¹³ He that covereth his sins shall not prosper, but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

¹⁴ Happy is the man that feareth God always, but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into evil.

¹⁵ As a roaring lion and a ranging bear, so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

¹⁶ The prince that lacketh understanding is also a great oppressor, but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.

¹⁷ A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.

¹⁸ Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved, but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once!

¹⁹ He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread, but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.

²⁰ A faithful man shall abound with blessings, but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

²¹ To have respect of persons is not good, for that man will transgress for a piece of bread.

²² He that hasteneth to be rich hath an evil eye and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

²³ He that rebuketh a man shall afterwards find more favor than he that flattereth with his tongue.

²⁴ Whoso robbeth his father or his mother and saith, “It is no transgression,” the same is the companion of a destroyer.

²⁵ He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife, but he that putteth his trust in the Lord shall prosper.

²⁶ He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool, but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

²⁷ He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack, but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.

²⁸ When the wicked rise, men hide themselves; but when they perish, the righteous increase.

⁴³ And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all the things which Jesus did, He said unto His disciples,

⁴⁴ “Let these sayings sink down into your ears, for the Son of Man shall be delivered into the hands of men.”

⁴⁵ But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not; and they were afraid to ask Him about that saying.

⁴⁶ Then there arose a reasoning among them as to which of them should be greatest.

⁴⁷ And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child and set him by Him,

⁴⁸ and said unto them, “Whosoever shall receive this child in My name receiveth Me; and whosoever shall receive Me receiveth Him that sent Me. For he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.”
