Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
12 Help, Lord, for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.
2 They speak vanity every one with his neighbor; with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.
3 The Lord shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things,
4 who have said, “With our tongue, we will prevail; our lips are our own; who is lord over us?”
5 “For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise,” saith the Lord; “I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.”
6 The words of the Lord are pure words, as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7 Thou shalt keep them, O Lord; Thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
8 The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.
10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil; his neighbor findeth no favor in his eyes.
11 When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise; and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.
12 The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked, how God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness.
13 Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall himself cry, but shall not be heard.
14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger, and a bribe in the bosom, strong wrath.
15 It is a joy to the just to do judgment, but destruction shall come to the workers of iniquity.
16 The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.
45 Then in the audience of all the people, He said unto His disciples,
46 “Beware of the scribes who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
47 who devour widows’ houses, and for a show make long prayers. The same shall receive greater damnation.”
21 And He looked up and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury,
2 and He saw also a certain poor widow casting therein two mites.
3 And He said, “In truth I say unto you that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all.
4 For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God, but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.”
