²⁶ Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying: Arise, go towards the south, to the way that goeth down from Jerusalem into Gaza: this is desert.

²⁷ And rising up, he went. And behold a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch, of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge over all her treasures, had come to Jerusalem to adore.

²⁸ And he was returning, sitting in his chariot, and reading Isaias the prophet.

²⁹ And the Spirit said to Philip: Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

³⁰ And Philip running thither, heard him reading the prophet Isaias. And he said: Thinkest thou that thou understandest what thou readest?

³¹ Who said: And how can I, unless some man shew me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

³² And the place of the scripture which he was reading was this: He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb without voice before his shearer, so openeth he not his mouth.

³³ In humility his judgment was taken away. His generation who shall declare, for his life shall be taken from the earth?

³⁴ And the eunuch answering Philip, said: I beseech thee, of whom doth the prophet speak this? of himself, or of some other man?

³⁵ Then Philip, opening his mouth, and beginning at this scripture, preached unto him Jesus.

³⁶ And as they went on their way, they came to a certain water; and the eunuch said: See, here is water: what doth hinder me from being baptized?

³⁷ And Philip said: If thou believest with all thy heart, thou mayest. And he answering, said: I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

³⁸ And he commanded the chariot to stand still; and they went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch: and he baptized him.

³⁹ And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord took away Philip; and the eunuch saw him no more. And he went on his way rejoicing.

⁴⁰ But Philip was found in Azotus; and passing through, he preached the gospel to all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.

⁷ Dearly beloved, let us love one another, for charity is of God. And every one that loveth, is born of God, and knoweth God.

⁸ He that loveth not, knoweth not God: for God is charity.

⁹ By this hath the charity of God appeared towards us, because God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we may live by him.

¹⁰ In this is charity: not as though we had loved God, but because he hath first loved us, and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins.

¹¹ My dearest, if God hath so loved us; we also ought to love one another.

¹² No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abideth in us, and his charity is perfected in us.

¹³ In this we know that we abide in him, and he in us: because he hath given us of his spirit.

¹⁴ And we have seen, and do testify, that the Father hath sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world.

¹⁵ Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God.

¹⁶ And we have known, and have believed the charity, which God hath to us. God is charity: and he that abideth in charity, abideth in God, and God in him.

¹⁷ In this is the charity of God perfected with us, that we may have confidence in the day of judgment: because as he is, we also are in this world.

¹⁸ Fear is not in charity: but perfect charity casteth out fear, because fear hath pain. And he that feareth, is not perfected in charity.

¹⁹ Let us therefore love God, because God first hath loved us.

²⁰ If any man say, I love God, and hateth his brother; he is a liar. For he that loveth not his brother, whom he seeth, how can he love God, whom he seeth not?

²¹ And this commandment we have from God, that he, who loveth God, love also his brother.

15 I am the true vine; and my Father is the husbandman.

² Every branch in me, that beareth not fruit, he will take away: and every one that beareth fruit, he will purge it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

³ Now you are clean by reason of the word, which I have spoken to you.

⁴ Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine, so neither can you, unless you abide in me.

⁵ I am the vine: you the branches: he that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing.

⁶ If any one abide not in me, he shall be cast forth as a branch, and shall wither, and they shall gather him up, and cast him into the fire, and he burneth.

⁷ If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask whatever you will, and it shall be done unto you.

⁸ In this is my Father glorified; that you bring forth very much fruit, and become my disciples.
