⁵ And it came to pass on the morrow, that their princes, and ancients, and scribes, were gathered together in Jerusalem;

⁶ And Annas the high priest, and Caiphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest.

⁷ And setting them in the midst, they asked: By what power, or by what name, have you done this?

⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said to them: Ye princes of the people, and ancients, hear:

⁹ If we this day are examined concerning the good deed done to the infirm man, by what means he hath been made whole:

¹⁰ Be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God hath raised from the dead, even by him this man standeth here before you whole.

¹¹ This is the stone which was rejected by you the builders, which is become the head of the corner.

¹² Neither is there salvation in any other. For there is no other name under heaven given to men, whereby we must be saved.

23 On the first day of the week, a psalm for David. The earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof: the world, and all they that dwell therein.

² For he hath founded it upon the seas; and hath prepared it upon the rivers.

³ Who shall ascend into the mountain of the Lord: or who shall stand in his holy place?

⁴ The innocent in hands, and clean of heart, who hath not taken his soul in vain, nor sworn deceitfully to his neighbour.

⁵ He shall receive a blessing from the Lord, and mercy from God his Saviour.

⁶ This is the generation of them that seek him, of them that seek the face of the God of Jacob.

⁷ Lift up your gates, O ye princes, and be ye lifted up, O eternal gates: and the King of Glory shall enter in.

⁸ Who is this King of Glory? the Lord who is strong and mighty: the Lord mighty in battle.

⁹ Lift up your gates, O ye princes, and be ye lifted up, O eternal gates: and the King of Glory shall enter in.

¹⁰ Who is this King of Glory? the Lord of hosts, he is the King of Glory.

¹⁶ In this we have known the charity of God, because he hath laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

¹⁷ He that hath the substance of this world, and shall see his brother in need, and shall shut up his bowels from him: how doth the charity of God abide in him?

¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word, nor in tongue, but in deed, and in truth.

¹⁹ In this we know that we are of the truth: and in his sight shall persuade our hearts.

²⁰ For if our heart reprehend us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

²¹ Dearly beloved, if our heart do not reprehend us, we have confidence towards God:

²² And whatsoever we shall ask, we shall receive of him: because we keep his commandments, and do those things which are pleasing in his sight.

²³ And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ: and love one another, as he hath given commandment unto us.

²⁴ And he that keepeth his commandments, abideth in him, and he in him. And in this we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

¹¹ I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd giveth his life for his sheep.

¹² But the hireling, and he that is not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and flieth: and the wolf catcheth, and scattereth the sheep:

¹³ And the hireling flieth, because he is a hireling: and he hath no care for the sheep.

¹⁴ I am the good shepherd; and I know mine, and mine know me.

¹⁵ As the Father knoweth me, and I know the Father: and I lay down my life for my sheep.

¹⁶ And other sheep I have, that are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.

¹⁷ Therefore doth the Father love me: because I lay down my life, that I may take it again.

¹⁸ No man taketh it away from me: but I lay it down of myself, and I have power to lay it down: and I have power to take it up again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
