95 A canticle for David himself, when the house was built after the captivity. Sing ye to the Lord a new canticle: sing to the Lord, all the earth.

² Sing ye to the Lord and bless his name: shew forth his salvation from day to day.

³ Declare his glory among the Gentiles: his wonders among all people.

⁴ For the Lord is great, and exceedingly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods.

⁵ For all the gods of the Gentiles are devils: but the Lord made the heavens.

⁶ Praise and beauty are before him: holiness and majesty in his sanctuary.

⁷ Bring ye to the Lord, O ye kindreds of the Gentiles, bring ye to the Lord glory and honour:

⁸ Bring to the Lord glory unto his name. Bring up sacrifices, and come into his courts:

⁹ Adore ye the Lord in his holy court. Let all the earth be moved at his presence.

¹⁰ Say ye among the Gentiles, the Lord hath reigned. For he hath corrected the world, which shall not be moved: he will judge the people with justice.

¹¹ Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad, let the sea be moved, and the fulness thereof:

¹² The fields and all things that are in them shall be joyful. Then shall all the trees of the woods rejoice

¹³ Before the face of the Lord, because he cometh: because he cometh to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with justice, and the people with his truth.

11 Then all Israel gathered themselves to David in Hebron, saying: We are thy bone, and thy flesh.

² Yesterday also, and the day before when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: for the Lord thy God said to thee: Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt; be ruler over them.

³ So all the ancients of Israel came to the king to Hebron, and David made a covenant with them before the Lord: and they anointed him king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke in the hand of Samuel.

⁴ And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus, where the Jebusites were the inhabitants of the land.

⁵ And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David: Thou shalt not come in here. But David took the castle of Sion, which is the city of David.

⁶ And he said: Whosoever shall first strike the Jebusites, shall be the head and chief captain. And Joab the son of Sarvia went up first, and was made the general.

⁷ And David dwelt in the castle, and therefore it was called the city of David.

⁸ And he built the city round about from Mello all round, and Joab built the rest of the city.

⁹ And David went on growing and increasing, and the Lord of hosts was with him.

¹³ And one of the ancients answered, and said to me: These that are clothed in white robes, who are they? and whence came they?

¹⁴ And I said to him: My Lord, thou knowest. And he said to me: These are they who are come out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and have made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

¹⁵ Therefore they are before the throne of God, and they serve him day and night in his temple: and he, that sitteth on the throne, shall dwell over them.

¹⁶ They shall no more hunger nor thirst, neither shall the sun fall on them, nor any heat.

¹⁷ For the Lamb, which is in the midst of the throne, shall rule them, and shall lead them to the fountains of the waters of life, and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
