Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
5 Thus saith the Lord, Concerning the prophets that deceive my people, and [a]bite them with their teeth, and cry, peace, but if a man put not into their mouths, they prepare war against him.
6 Therefore [b]night shall be unto you for a vision, and darkness shall be unto you for a divination, and the Sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them.
7 Then shall the Seers be ashamed, and the Soothsayers confounded: yea, they shall all cover [c]their lips, for they have none answer of God.
8 Yet notwithstanding I am full [d]of power by the Spirit of the Lord, and of judgment, and of strength to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.
9 Hear this, I pray you, ye heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel: they abhor judgment, and pervert all equity.
10 They build up Zion with [e]blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity,
11 The heads thereof judge for rewards, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof prophesy for money: yet will they [f]lean upon the Lord and say, Is not the Lord among us? no evil can come upon us.
12 Therefore shall Zion for your sake be [g]plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall be an heap, and the mountain of the house, as the high places of the forest.
43 1 He prayeth to be delivered from them that conspire against him, that he might joyfully praise God in his holy congregation.
1 Judge [a]me, O God, and defend my cause against the unmerciful [b]people: deliver me from the deceitful and wicked man.
2 For thou art the God of my strength: why hast thou put me away? why go I so mourning, when the enemy oppressed me?
3 Send thy [c]light and thy truth: let them lead me: let them bring me unto thine holy Mountain, and to thy Tabernacles.
4 Then [d]will I go unto the altar of God, even unto the God of my joy and gladness: and upon the harp will I give thanks unto thee, O God my God.
5 Why art thou cast down, my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me: [e]wait on God: for I will yet give him thanks, he is my present help and my God.
9 [a]For ye remember, brethren, (A)our labor and travail: for we labored day and night, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, and preached unto you the Gospel of God.
10 [b]Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily, and justly, and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe.
11 [c]As ye know how that we exhorted you, and comforted, and besought every one of you, (as a father his children.)
12 [d]That ye (B)would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.
13 [e]For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, that when ye received the word of God, which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is indeed the word of God, which also worketh in you that believe.
23 2 How the Scribes teaching the people the Law of Moses, behave themselves. 5 Their Phylacteries, and Fringes. 7 Greetings. 8 We are brethren. 9 The Father. 10 The servant. 13 To shut the kingdom of heaven. 14 To devour widow’s houses. 15 A Proselyte. 16 To swear by the Temple. 23 To tithe mint. 25 To cleanse the outside of the cup. 27 Painted sepulchers. 33 Serpents, vipers. 37 The Hen.
1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
2 [a]Saying, The (A)Scribes and the Pharisees [b]sit in Moses’ seat.
3 [c]All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do: but after their works do not: for they say, and do not.
4 (B)[d]For they bind heavy burdens, and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
5 [e]All their works they do for to be seen of men: for they make their [f]phylacteries broad, and make long [g]the (C)fringes of their garments,
6 (D)And love the chief place at feasts, and to have the chief seats in the [h]assemblies,
7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, [i]Rabbi.
8 (E)[j]But be not ye [k]called, Rabbi: for [l]one is your doctor, to wit, Christ, and all ye are brethren.
9 And (F)call no man your [m]father upon the earth: for there is but one, your father which is in heaven.
10 Be not called [n]doctors: for one is your doctor, even Christ.
11 But he that is greatest among you, let him be your servant.
12 (G)For whosoever [o]will exalt himself, shall be brought low: and whosoever will humble himself, shall be exalted.
