96 1 An exhortation both to the Jews and Gentiles to praise God for his mercy. And this specially ought to be referred to the kingdom of Christ.
1 Sing [a]unto the Lord a new song: sing unto the Lord all the earth.
2 Sing unto the Lord, and praise his Name: declare his salvation from day to day.
3 Declare his glory among all nations, and his wonders among all people.
4 For the Lord is [b]great and much to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the people are [c]idols: but the Lord [d]made the heavens.
6 [e]Strength and glory are before him: power and beauty are in his Sanctuary.
7 Give unto the Lord, ye families of the people: give unto the Lord glory and [f]power.
8 Give unto the Lord the glory of his Name: bring [g]an offering, and enter into his courts.
9 Worship the Lord in the glorious Sanctuary: tremble before him all the earth.
10 Say among the [a]Nations, The Lord reigneth: Surely the world shall be stable, and not move, and he shall judge the people [b]in righteousness.
11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad: let the sea roar, and all that therein is.
12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it: let all the [c]trees of the wood then rejoice,
13 Before the Lord: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he will judge the world with righteousness, and the people in his truth.
3 ¶ And in that day when the Lord shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the sore bondage, wherein thou didst serve,
4 Then shalt thou take up this proverb against the King of Babel, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased? and the gold thirsty Babel rested?
5 The Lord hath broken the rod of the wicked, and the scepter of the rulers:
6 Which smote the people in anger with a continual plague, and ruled the nations in wrath: if any were persecuted, he did [a]not let.
7 The whole world is at [b]rest and is quiet: they sing for joy.
8 Also the fir trees rejoiced of thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no hewer came up against us.
9 Hell beneath is moved for thee to [c]meet thee at thy coming, raising up the dead for thee, even all the princes of the earth, and hath raised from their thrones all the Kings of the nations.
10 All they shall cry and say unto thee, Art thou become weak also as we? art thou become like unto us?
11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the sound of the viols: the worm [d]is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.

1 At (A)[a]that time Herod the Tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,
2 And said unto his servants, This is that John Baptist, he is risen again from the dead, and therefore great [b]works are wrought by him.
3 (B)For Herod had taken John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife.
4 For John said unto him, It is not (C)lawful for thee to have her.
5 And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a (D)Prophet.
6 But when Herod’s birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased [c]Herod.
7 Wherefore he promised with an oath, that he would give her whatsoever she would ask.
8 And she being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist’s head in a platter.
9 And the king was sorry: nevertheless, because of the oath, and them that sat with him at the table, he commanded it to be given her,
10 And sent, and beheaded John in the prison.
11 And his head was brought in a platter, and given to the maid, and she brought it unto her mother.
12 And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.
