Leviticus 19:1-2

19 A repetition of sundry Laws and Ordinances.

And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

Speak unto all the Congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, (A)Ye shall be [a]holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.

Leviticus 19:15-18

15 ¶ Ye shall not do unjustly in judgment: (A)Thou shalt not favor the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty, but thou shalt judge thy neighbor justly.

16 ¶ Thou shalt not [a]walk about with tales among thy people: Thou shalt not [b]stand against the blood of thy neighbor: I am the Lord.

17 ¶ Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart, but thou shalt plainly rebuke thy neighbor, [c]and suffer him not to sin.

18 ¶ Thou shalt not avenge, nor be mindful of wrong against the children of thy people, (B)but shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: I am the Lord.

Psalm 1

The [a]Psalms of David

Whether it was Esdras, or any other that gathered the Psalms into a book, it seemeth he did set this Psalm first in manner of a preface, to exhort all godly men to study and meditate the heavenly wisdom.  For the effect hereof is,  1 That they be blessed which give themselves wholly all their life to the holy Scriptures; 4 and that the wicked contemners of God, though they seem for a while happy, yet at length shall come to miserable destruction.

Blessed is the man that doth not walk in the [b]counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful.

But his delight is in the (A)law of the Lord, and in his [c]law doth he meditate day and night.

For he shall be like a (B)tree planted by the rivers of waters, that will bring forth her fruits in due season: whose leaf shall not fade: so [d]whatsoever he shall do, shall prosper.

[e]The wicked are not so, but as the chaff, which the wind driveth away.

Therefore the wicked shall not stand in the [f]judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the Lord [g]knoweth the way of the righteous, and the way of the wicked shall perish.

1 Thessalonians 2:1-8

1 He declareth how faithfully he preacheth the Gospel unto them, 5 seeking neither gain, 6 nor praise of men:  10 and he proveth the same by their own testimony:  14 that they did courageously bear persecution of their countrymen: 17 that he desireth very much to see them.

For [a]ye yourselves know, brethren, that our entrance in unto you was not in vain,

[b]But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated at (A)Philippi, (as ye know) we were bold in [c]our God, to speak unto you the Gospel of God, with much striving.

[d]For our exhortation was not by deceit, nor [e]by uncleanness, nor by guile.

[f]But as we were [g]allowed of God, that the Gospel should be committed unto us, so we speak, not as they that please men, but God, which [h]approveth our hearts:

Neither yet did we ever use flattering words, as ye know, nor colored covetousness, God is record.

[i]Neither sought we praise of men, neither of you, nor of others, when we might have been [j]chargeable, as the Apostles of Christ.

But we were [k]gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children.

[l]Thus being affectioned toward you, our good will was to have dealt unto you, not the Gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.

Matthew 22:34-46

34 (A)[a]But when the Pharisees had heard, that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they assembled together.

35 And [b]one of them, which was an expounder of the Law, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,

36 Master, which is the great commandment in the Law?

37 Jesus said to him, (B)Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, with all thy [c]soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and the great commandment.

39 And the second is like unto this, (C)Thou shalt love thy [d]neighbor as thyself.

40 On these two commandments hangeth the whole Law and the Prophets.

41 (D)[e]While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? [f]whose son is he? They said unto him, David’s.

43 He said unto them, How then doth David in spirit, call him Lord, saying,

44 (E)The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?

45 If then David call him Lord, how is he his son?

46 And none could answer him a word, neither durst any from that day forth ask him any more questions.
