Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
7 [a]Turn us again, O God of hosts: cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.
8 Thou hast brought a [b]vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.
9 Thou madest room for it, and didst cause it to take root, and it filled the land.
10 The mountains were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the [c]goodly cedars.
11 She stretched out her branches unto the Sea, and her boughs unto the [d]river.
12 Why hast thou then broken down her hedges, so that all they, which pass by the way, have plucked her?
13 The wild [e]boar out of the wood hath destroyed it, and the wild beasts of the field have eaten it up.
14 Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down [f]from heaven and behold, and visit this vine,
15 And the vineyard, that thy right hand hath planted, and the young vine, which thou madest [g]strong for thyself.
14 Is Israel a [a]servant, or is he born in the house? why then is he spoiled?
15 The [b]Lions roared upon him and yelled, and they have made his land waste: his cities are burnt without [c]an inhabitant.
16 Also the children of [d]Noph and Tahapanes have [e]broken thine head.
17 Hast not thou procured this unto thyself, because thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God, when he [f]led thee by the way?
18 And what hast thou now to do in the way of [g]Egypt? to drink the water of Nilus? or what makest thou in the way of Assyria? to drink the water of the [h]River?
19 Thine own wickedness shall [i]correct thee, and thy turnings back shall reprove thee: know therefore and behold, that it is an evil thing, and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord God of hosts.
20 For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bonds, and thou saidest, [j]I will no more transgress, but like an harlot thou runnest about upon all high hills, and under all green trees.
21 Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, whose [k]plants were all natural: how then art thou turned unto me into the plants of a strange vine?
22 Though thou wash thee with [l]nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord God.
16 [a]Let no man therefore condemn you in meat and drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days,
17 Which are but a shadow of things to come: but the [b]body is in Christ.
18 [c]Let no man at his pleasure bear rule over you by [d]humbleness of mind, and worshipping of Angels, [e]advancing himself in those things which he never saw, [f][g]rashly puffed up with his fleshly mind,
19 [h]And holdeth not the [i]head, whereof all the body furnished and knit together by joints and bands, increaseth with the increasing of [j]God.
20 [k]Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the ordinances of the world, why, [l]as though ye lived in the world, are ye burdened with traditions?
21 [m]As, Touch not, Taste not, Handle not.
22 [n]Which all perish with the using, [o]and are after the commandments and doctrines of men.
23 [p]Which things have indeed a show of [q]wisdom, in [r]voluntary religion and humbleness of mind, and in [s]not sparing the body, which are things of no value, since they pertain to the [t]filling of the flesh.
