10 And God saw their [a]works that they turned from their evil ways: and [b]God repented of the evil that he had said that he would do unto them, and he did it not.
4 The great goodness of God toward his creatures.
1 Therefore it displeased [c]Jonah exceedingly, and he was angry.
2 And he prayed unto the Lord, and said, I pray thee, O Lord, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? therefore I prevented it to flee unto [d]Tarshish: for I knew, that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.
3 Therefore now, O Lord, take, I beseech thee, my life [e]from me: for it is better for me to die than to live.
4 Then said the Lord, Doest thou well to be [f]angry?
5 So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the East side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow [g]till he might see what should be done in the city.
6 And the Lord God prepared a [h]gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, and deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.
7 But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd, that it withered.
8 And when the sun did arise, God prepared also a fervent East wind: and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted and wished in his heart to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.
9 And God said unto Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be [i]angry unto the death.
10 Then said the Lord, Thou hast had pity on the gourd for the which thou hast not labored, neither madest it grow, which came up in a night and perished in a night,
11 And should [j]not I spare Nineveh that great city, wherein are sixscore thousand persons, that [k]cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand, and also much cattle?
145 This Psalm was composed when the kingdom of David flourished. 1 Wherein he describeth the wonderful providence of God, as well in governing man, as in preserving all the rest of his creatures. 17 He praiseth God for his justice and mercy. 18 But specially for his loving-kindness toward those that call upon him, that fear him, and love him: 21 For the which he promiseth to praise him forever.
A Psalm of David of praise.
1 O my God and King, [a]I will extol thee, and will bless thy Name forever and ever.
2 I will bless thee daily, and praise thy Name forever and ever.
3 [b]Great is the Lord, and most worthy to be praised, and his greatness is incomprehensible.
4 Generation shall praise thy works unto [c]generation, and declare thy power.
5 I will meditate of the beauty of thy glorious majesty, and thy wonderful works.
6 And they shall speak of the power of thy [d]dreadful acts, and I will declare thy greatness.
7 They shall break out into the mention of thy great goodness, and shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
8 (A)The Lord is gracious, and [e]merciful, slow to anger, and of great mercy.
21 For Christ is to me both in life and in death advantage.
22 [a]And whether to live in the [b]flesh were profitable for me, and what to choose I know not.
23 For I am distressed between both, desiring to be loosed and to be with Christ, which is best of all.
24 Nevertheless, to abide in the flesh, is more needful for you.
25 And this am I sure of, that I shall abide, and with you all continue, for your furtherance and joy of your faith,
26 That ye may more abundantly rejoice in JESUS CHRIST for me, by my coming to you again.
27 [c]Only let your conversation be as it becometh the Gospel of Christ, that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your matters, that ye [d]continue in one spirit, and in one mind, fighting together through the faith of the Gospel.
28 [e]And in nothing fear your adversaries, which is to them a token of perdition, and to you of salvation, and that of God.
29 [f]For unto you it is given for Christ, that not only ye should believe in him, but also suffer for his sake,
30 [g]Having the same fight, which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

1 For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain [a]householder, which went out at the dawning of the day to hire laborers into his vineyard.
2 And he [b]agreed with the laborers for a penny a day, and sent them into his vineyard.
3 And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
4 And said unto them, Go ye also into my vineyard, and whatsoever is right, I will give you: and they went their way.
5 Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.
6 And he went about the [c]eleventh hour, and found others standing idle, and said unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?
7 They said unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He said to them, Go ye also into my vineyard, and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.
8 ¶ And when even was come, the master of the vineyard said unto his steward, Call the laborers, and give them their hire, beginning at the last, till thou come to the first.
9 And they which were hired about the eleventh hour, came and received every man a penny.
10 Now when the first came, they supposed that they should receive more, but they likewise received every man a penny.
11 And when they had received it, they murmured against the master of the house,
12 Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.
13 And he answered one of them, saying, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst thou not agree with me for a penny?
14 Take that which is thine own, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, as much as to thee.
15 Is it not lawful for me to do as I will with mine own? Is thine eye [d]evil, because I am good?
16 (A) So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many are called, but few chosen.
