Jeremiah 20:7-13

O Lord, thou hast deceived me, and I am [a]deceived: thou art stronger than I, and hast [b]prevailed: I am in derision daily: everyone mocketh me.

For since I spake, I cried out of wrong, and proclaimed [c]desolation: therefore the word of the Lord was made a reproach unto me, and in derision daily.

Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak anymore in his Name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

10 For I had heard the railing of many, and fear on every side. [d]Declare, said they, and we will declare it: all my familiars watched for mine halting, saying, It may be that he is deceived: so we shall prevail against him, and we shall execute our vengeance upon him.

11 [e]But the Lord is with me like a mighty giant: therefore my persecutors shall be overthrown, and shall not prevail, and shall be greatly confounded: for they have done unwisely, and their everlasting shame shall never be forgotten.

12 (A)But, O Lord of hosts, that triest the righteous, and seest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I opened my cause.

13 Sing unto the Lord, praise ye the Lord: for he hath delivered the soul of the poor from the hand of the wicked.

Psalm 69:7-10

For thy sake have I suffered reproof: shame hath covered my face.

I am become a stranger unto my brethren, even an alien unto my mother’s sons.

[a]For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me, and the rebukes of them that rebuked thee, are fallen upon me.

10 I [b]wept and my soul fasted, but that was to my reproof.

Psalm 69:11-15

11 I put on a sack also: and I became a proverb unto them.

12 They that [a]sat in the gate, spake of me, and the drunkards sang of me.

13 But Lord, I make my prayer unto thee in an [b]acceptable time, even in the multitude of thy mercy: O God, hear me in the truth of thy salvation.

14 Deliver me out of the mire, that I sink not: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the [c]deep waters.

15 Let not the water flood drown me, neither let the deep swallow me up: and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.

Psalm 69:16-18

16 Hear me, O Lord, for thy loving-kindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.

17 And [a]hide not thy face from thy servant, for I am in trouble; make haste and hear me.

18 Draw near unto my soul and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.

Romans 6:1-11

1 He cometh to sanctification, without which, that no man putteth on Christ’s righteousness, he proveth 4 by an argument taken of Baptism, 12 and thereupon exhorteth to holiness of life, 16 briefly making mention of the Law transgressed.

What [a]shall we say then? Shall we continue still in [b]sin, that grace may abound? God forbid.

[c]How shall we, that are [d]dead to sin, live yet therein?

[e]Know ye not, that (A)all we which have been baptized into [f]Jesus Christ, have been baptized into his death?

(B)We are buried then with him by baptism into his death, that like as Christ was raised up from the dead [g]to the glory of the Father, so [h]we also should (C)walk in newness of life.

(D)[i]For if we be planted with him to the [j]similitude of his death, even so shall we [k]be to the similitude of his resurrection,

Knowing this, that our [l]old man is crucified with [m]him, that the body of [n]sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not [o]serve sin,

[p]For he that is dead, is freed from sin.

Wherefore, if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall live also with him,

Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead, dieth no more: death hath no more dominion over him.

10 For in that he died, he died [q]once to sin: but in that he liveth, he liveth to [r]God.

11 Likewise think ye also, that ye are dead to sin, but are alive to God in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Matthew 10:24-39

24 (A)The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his Lord.

25 It is enough for the disciple to be as his master is, and the servant as his Lord. (B)If they have called the master of the house [a]Beelzebub, how much more them of his household?

26 [b]Fear them not therefore: (C)for there is nothing covered, that shall not be disclosed, nor hid, that shall not be known.

27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye on the [c]houses.

28 And [d]fear ye not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him, which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a [e]farthing, and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father?

30 (D)Yea, and all the hairs of your head are numbered.

31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

32 (E)[f]Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

34 (F)[g]Think not that I am come to send peace into the earth, but the sword.

35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

36 (G)And a man’s enemies shall be they of his own household.

37 (H)[h]He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me. And he that loveth son, or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me.

38 (I)And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

39 (J)He that will find [i]his life, shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake, shall find it.
