Psalm 51

Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God

For the choir director. A Psalm of David. When [a]Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.

51 (A)Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness;
According to the abundance of (B)Your compassion (C)blot out my transgressions.
(D)Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity
And (E)cleanse me from my sin.
For [b]I (F)know my transgressions,
And my sin is ever before me.
(G)Against You, You only, I have sinned
And done what is (H)evil in Your sight,
So that (I)You [c]are justified [d]when You speak
And pure when You judge.

Behold, I was (J)brought forth in iniquity,
And in sin my mother conceived me.
Behold, You delight in (K)truth in the [e]innermost being,
And in the hidden part You will (L)make me know wisdom.
[f]Purify me (M)with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
[g]Wash me, and I shall be (N)whiter than snow.
[h]Make me to hear (O)joy and gladness,
Let the (P)bones which You have crushed rejoice.
(Q)Hide Your face from my sins
And blot out all my iniquities.

10 (R)Create [i]in me a (S)clean heart, O God,
And renew [j]a (T)steadfast spirit within me.
11 (U)Do not cast me away from Your presence
And do not take Your (V)Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the (W)joy of Your salvation
And sustain me with a (X)willing spirit.
13 Then I will (Y)teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners will [k]be (Z)converted to You.

14 Deliver me from (AA)bloodguiltiness, O God, (AB)the God of my salvation;
Then my (AC)tongue will joyfully sing of Your righteousness.
15 O Lord, [l](AD)open my lips,
That my mouth may (AE)declare Your praise.
16 For You (AF)do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it;
You are not pleased with burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a (AG)broken spirit;
A broken and a [m]contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.

18 (AH)By Your favor do good to Zion;
[n](AI)Build the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then You will delight in [o](AJ)righteous sacrifices,
In (AK)burnt offering and whole burnt offering;
Then [p]young bulls will be offered on Your altar.

Deuteronomy 28:58-29:1

58 “If you are not careful to do all the words of this law which are written in this book, to [a](A)fear this glorious and fearsome (B)name, Yahweh your God, 59 then Yahweh will bring wondrous plagues on you and plagues on those who are your seed, even great and enduring plagues, and miserable and enduring sicknesses. 60 (C)And He will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt of which you were afraid, and they will cling to you. 61 Also every sickness and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, Yahweh will bring on you (D)until you are destroyed. 62 Then you shall remain few in number, (E)whereas you were as numerous as the stars of heaven, because you did not listen to the voice of Yahweh your God. 63 And it will be that as Yahweh (F)delighted over you to prosper you and multiply you, so Yahweh will (G)delight over you to make you perish and destroy you; and you will be (H)torn from the land where you are entering to possess it. 64 Moreover, Yahweh will (I)scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth; and there you shall (J)serve other gods, wood and stone, which you or your fathers have not known. 65 (K)Moreover, among those nations you shall find no relief, and there will be no resting place for the sole of your foot; but there (L)Yahweh will give you a trembling heart, failing of eyes, and despair of soul. 66 So your life shall [b]hang in doubt before you; and you will be in dread night and day and shall not have any faith in your life. 67 (M)In the morning you shall say, ‘Would that it were evening!’ And at evening you shall say, ‘Would that it were morning!’ because of the dread of your heart which you dread, and because of the sight of your eyes which you will see. 68 And Yahweh will bring you back to Egypt in ships, by the way about which I spoke to you, ‘You will never see it again!’ And there you will offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but there will be no buyer.”

The Covenant in Moab

29 [c](N)These are the words of the covenant which Yahweh commanded Moses to cut with the sons of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the (O)covenant which He had cut with them at Horeb.

Acts 7:17-29

17 “But as the (A)time of the promise was drawing near which God had assured to Abraham, (B)the people increased and multiplied in Egypt, 18 until (C)another king arose over Egypt who did not know about Joseph. 19 It was he who (D)deceitfully took advantage of our family and mistreated our fathers to [a](E)set their infants outside so that they would not survive. 20 It was at this time that (F)Moses was born, and he was lovely [b]in the sight of God, and he was nurtured three months in his father’s home. 21 And after he had been set outside, (G)Pharaoh’s daughter [c]took him away and nurtured him as her own son. 22 And Moses was educated in all (H)the wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was powerful in words and deeds. 23 But when he was approaching the age of forty, (I)it entered his heart to visit his brothers, the sons of Israel. 24 And when he saw one of them being treated unjustly, he defended him and took justice for the oppressed by striking down the Egyptian. 25 And he supposed that his brothers understood that God was granting them salvation [d]through him, but they did not understand. 26 (J)On the following day he appeared to them as they were fighting together, and he tried to reconcile them in peace, saying, ‘Men, you are brothers, why are you treating one another unjustly?’ 27 But the one who was treating his neighbor unjustly pushed him away, saying, ‘(K)Who made you a ruler and judge over us? 28 (L)Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’ 29 At this remark, (M)Moses fled and became a sojourner in the land of [e]Midian, where he (N)was the father of two sons.
