Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
8 Then the word of Yahweh came to him, saying, 9 “Arise, go to (A)Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and remain there; behold, (B)I have commanded a widow there to sustain you.” 10 So he arose and went to Zarephath, and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks; and (C)he called to her and said, “Please get me a little water in a [a]jar, that I may drink.” 11 So she went to get it, and he called to her and said, “Please get me a piece of bread in your hand.” 12 But she said, “(D)As Yahweh your God lives, (E)I have no [b]bread, only a handful of flour in the [c]bowl and a little oil in the jar; and behold, I am gathering [d]a few sticks that I may go in and prepare for me and my son, that we may eat it and (F)die.” 13 Then Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go, do as you have said, but make me a little bread cake from [e]it first and bring it out to me, and afterward you may make one for yourself and for your son. 14 For thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘The [f]bowl of flour shall not be exhausted, nor shall the jar of oil [g]be empty, until the day that Yahweh sends rain on the face of the earth.’” 15 So she went and did according to the word of Elijah, and she and he and her household ate for many days. 16 The [h]bowl of flour was not exhausted nor did the jar of oil [i]become empty, according to the word of Yahweh which He spoke by the hand of Elijah.
I Will Praise Yahweh Throughout My Life
146 [a]Praise Yah!
(A)Praise Yahweh, O my soul!
2 I will praise Yahweh (B)throughout my life;
I will (C)sing praises to my God while I have my being.
3 (D)Do not trust in nobles,
In merely a son of (E)man, in whom there is (F)no salvation.
4 His (G)spirit departs, he (H)returns to [b]the earth;
In that very day his (I)plans perish.
5 How (J)blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
Whose (K)hope is in Yahweh his God,
6 Who (L)made heaven and earth,
The (M)sea and all that is in them;
Who (N)keeps truth forever;
7 Who (O)does justice for the oppressed;
Who (P)gives food to the hungry.
Yahweh (Q)sets the prisoners free.
8 Yahweh (R)opens the eyes of the blind;
Yahweh (S)raises up those who are bowed down;
Yahweh (T)loves the righteous;
9 Yahweh (U)keeps the sojourners;
He [c](V)helps up the orphan and the widow,
But He bends (W)the way of the wicked.
10 Yahweh will (X)reign forever,
Your God, O Zion, [d]from generation to generation.
[e]Praise Yah!
24 For Christ (A)did not enter holy places made with hands, mere copies of (B)the true ones, but into (C)heaven itself, now (D)to appear in the presence of God for us; 25 nor was it that He would offer Himself often, as (E)the high priest enters (F)the holy places (G)year by year with blood that is not his own. 26 Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since (H)the foundation of the world; but now (I)once at (J)the consummation of the ages He has been (K)manifested to put away sin [a](L)by the sacrifice of Himself. 27 And inasmuch as (M)it is [b]appointed for men to die once and after this (N)comes judgment, 28 so Christ also, having been (O)offered once to (P)bear the sins of many, will appear (Q)a second time for (R)salvation (S)without reference to sin, to those who (T)eagerly await Him.
38 (A)And in His teaching He was saying: “Beware of the scribes who want to walk around in long robes, and want (B)respectful greetings in the marketplaces, 39 and best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets, 40 (C)who devour widows’ houses, and for appearance’s sake offer long prayers; these will receive greater condemnation.”
The Widow’s Offering
41 (D)And He sat down opposite (E)the treasury, and began observing how the crowd was (F)putting [a]money into the treasury; and many rich people were putting in large sums. 42 And a poor widow came and put in two [b]lepta, which amount to a [c]quadrans. 43 And calling His disciples to Him, He said to them, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all those putting money into the treasury; 44 for they all put in out of their [d]surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she owned, [e]all she had (G)to live on.”
