Isaiah 11-13

The Judgments of the Branch

11 Then a (A)shoot will spring from the (B)stem of Jesse,
And a (C)branch from (D)his roots will bear fruit.
The (E)Spirit of Yahweh will rest on Him,
The spirit of (F)wisdom and understanding,
The spirit of counsel and (G)might,
The spirit of knowledge and the fear of Yahweh.
And He will delight in the fear of Yahweh,
And He will not judge by what His eyes (H)see,
Nor render a decision by what His ears hear;
But with (I)righteousness He will judge the (J)poor,
And decide with uprightness for the (K)afflicted of the earth;
And He will strike the earth with the (L)rod of His mouth,
And with the (M)breath of His lips He will put the wicked to death.
Also (N)righteousness will be the belt about His loins,
And (O)faithfulness the belt about His waist.

And the (P)wolf will [a]dwell with the lamb,
And the leopard will lie down with the young goat,
And the calf and the young lion [b]and the fatling together;
And a young boy will lead them.
Also the cow and the bear will graze,
Their young will lie down together,
And the (Q)lion will eat straw like the ox.
And the nursing baby will play by the hole of the cobra,
And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den.
They will (R)do no evil nor act corruptly in all My holy mountain,
For the (S)earth will be full of the knowledge of Yahweh
As the waters cover the sea.

A Remnant Remains

10 Then it will be in that day,
That the (T)nations will seek the (U)root of Jesse,
Who will stand as a [c](V)standard for the peoples;
And His (W)resting place will be [d]glorious.

11 Then it will be in that day, that the Lord
Will again acquire the second time with His hand
The (X)remnant of His people, who will remain,
From (Y)Assyria, (Z)Egypt, Pathros, [e]Ethiopia, (AA)Elam, Shinar, Hamath,
And from the (AB)coastlands of the sea.
12 And He will lift up a (AC)standard for the nations
And (AD)assemble the banished ones of Israel,
And will gather the scattered of Judah
From the four corners of the earth.
13 Then the (AE)jealousy of Ephraim will depart,
And those who assail Judah will be cut off;
Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah,
And Judah will not assail Ephraim.
14 And they will (AF)swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines on the (AG)west;
Together they will (AH)plunder the sons of the east;
[f]They will stretch out their hands over (AI)Edom and (AJ)Moab,
And the sons of Ammon [g]will obey them.
15 And Yahweh will (AK)devote to destruction
The tongue of the [h]Sea of Egypt;
And He will (AL)wave His hand over the [i](AM)River
With His scorching wind;
And He will strike it into seven streams
And make men walk over [j]dry-shod.
16 And there will be a (AN)highway from Assyria
For the (AO)remnant of His people who will remain,
Just as there was for Israel
In (AP)the day that they came up out of the land of Egypt.

Yahweh Is My Strength and My Song

12 Then you will say in that day,
(AQ)I will give thanks to You, O Yahweh;
For (AR)although You were angry with me,
Your anger is turned away,
And You comfort me.
Behold, (AS)God is my salvation,
I will (AT)trust and not dread;
For [k](AU)Yah—Yahweh Himself—is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation.”
Therefore you will joyously (AV)draw water
From the (AW)springs of salvation.
And in that day you will (AX)say,
(AY)Give thanks to Yahweh, call on His name.
(AZ)Make known His deeds among the peoples;
[l]Make them remember that His name is exalted.”
(BA)Praise Yahweh in song, for He has done [m]majestic things;
Let this be known throughout the earth.
(BB)Cry aloud and shout for joy, O inhabitant of Zion,
For (BC)great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

An Oracle Concerning Babylon

13 The [n](BD)oracle concerning (BE)Babylon which (BF)Isaiah the son of Amoz beheld.

(BG)Lift up a standard on the [o](BH)bare hill,
Heighten your voice at them,
(BI)Wave the hand that they may (BJ)enter the doors of the nobles.
I have commanded My set apart ones,
I have even called My (BK)mighty warriors,
My [p]proudly exulting ones,
To execute My anger.
A (BL)sound of tumult on the mountains,
Like that of many people!
A sound of the rumbling of kingdoms,
Of nations gathered together!
Yahweh of hosts is mustering the host for battle.
They are coming from a far country,
From the (BM)end of the sky,
Yahweh and His instruments of (BN)indignation,
To (BO)wreak destruction on the whole land.
Wail, for the (BP)day of Yahweh is near!
It will come as (BQ)destruction from [q]the Almighty.
Therefore (BR)all hands will fall limp,
And every man’s (BS)heart will melt.
They will be (BT)terrified,
Pains and labor pangs will take hold of them;
They will (BU)writhe like a woman in labor,
They will look at one another in astonishment,
Their faces aflame.
Behold, (BV)the day of Yahweh is coming,
Cruel, with fury and burning anger,
To make the land a desolation;
And He will exterminate its sinners from it.
10 For the (BW)stars of heaven and their constellations
Will not flash forth their light;
The (BX)sun will be dark when it rises
And the moon will not shed its light.
11 Thus I will (BY)punish the world for its evil
And the (BZ)wicked for their iniquity;
I will also put an end to the (CA)pride of the arrogant
And bring low the (CB)lofty pride of the [r](CC)ruthless.
12 I will make mortal man [s](CD)scarcer than fine gold
And mankind than the (CE)gold of Ophir.
13 Therefore I will make the (CF)heavens tremble,
And (CG)the earth will be shaken from its place
At the fury of Yahweh of hosts
In (CH)the day of His burning anger.
14 And it will be that like a hunted gazelle,
Or like (CI)sheep with none to gather them,
They will each turn to his own people,
And each one flee to his own land.
15 Anyone who is found will be (CJ)pierced through,
And anyone who is captured will fall by the sword.
16 Their (CK)infants also will be dashed to pieces
Before their eyes;
Their houses will be plundered
And their wives ravished.

17 Behold, I am going to (CL)awaken the Medes against them,
Who will not think about silver or (CM)take pleasure in gold.
18 And their bows will dash the (CN)young men to pieces,
They will not even have compassion on the fruit of the womb,
Nor will their (CO)eye pity [t]children.
19 And it will be that (CP)Babylon, the (CQ)beauty of kingdoms, the [u]honor of the Chaldeans’ pride,
Will be as when God (CR)overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
20 It will (CS)never be inhabited or dwelt in from generation to generation;
Nor will the [v](CT)Arab pitch his tent there,
Nor will shepherds make their flocks lie down there.
21 But (CU)desert creatures will lie down there,
And their houses will be full of [w]owls;
Ostriches also will dwell there, and [x]shaggy goats will leap there.
22 [y]And hyenas will howl in their fortified towers
And jackals in their luxurious (CV)palaces.
Her fateful time also [z]will soon come
And her days will not be prolonged.

Ephesians 4

Unity of the Spirit

Therefore I, (A)the prisoner in the Lord, (B)exhort you to (C)walk worthy of the (D)calling with which you have been (E)called, with all (F)humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another (G)in love, being diligent to keep the unity of the Spirit in the (H)bond of peace. There is (I)one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one (J)hope of your calling; (K)one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all (L)who is over all and through all and in all.

But (M)to each one of us (N)grace was given (O)according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore [a]it says,

(P)When He ascended on high,
He (Q)led captive a host of captives,
And He gave gifts to men.”

(Now this expression, “He (R)ascended,” what [b]does it mean except that He also [c]descended into (S)the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is Himself also He who ascended (T)far above all the heavens, so that He might (U)fill all things.) 11 And He Himself (V)gave (W)some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as (X)evangelists, and some as pastors and (Y)teachers, 12 (Z)for the equipping of the [d]saints for the work of service, to the building up of (AA)the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to (AB)the unity of the faith, and of the [e](AC)full knowledge of the Son of God, to a (AD)mature man, to the measure of the stature [f]which belongs to the (AE)fullness of Christ, 14 so that we are (AF)no longer to be children, (AG)tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by (AH)craftiness [g]in (AI)deceitful scheming, 15 but [h]speaking the truth (AJ)in love, [i]we are to (AK)grow up in all aspects into Him who is the (AL)head, that is Christ, 16 from whom (AM)the whole body, being joined and held together [j]by what every joint supplies, according to the properly (AN)measured working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself (AO)in love.

Put On the New Man

17 (AP)Therefore this I say, and testify in the Lord, (AQ)that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the (AR)futility of their mind, 18 being (AS)darkened in their mind, (AT)alienated from the life of God because of the (AU)ignorance that is in them, because of the (AV)hardness of their heart. 19 And they, having (AW)become callous, (AX)have given themselves over to (AY)sensuality [k]for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. 20 But you did not (AZ)learn [l]Christ in this way— 21 if indeed you (BA)heard Him and were (BB)taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, 22 [m]to (BC)lay aside, in reference to your former conduct, the (BD)old man, which is being corrupted in accordance with the (BE)lusts of deceit, 23 and to be (BF)renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and to (BG)put on the (BH)new man, which [n](BI)in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

25 Therefore, (BJ)laying aside falsehood, (BK)speak truth each one of you with his neighbor, for we are (BL)members of one another. 26 (BM)Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and do not (BN)give the devil [o]an opportunity. 28 He who steals must steal no longer, but rather (BO)he must labor, (BP)performing with his own hands what is good, (BQ)so that he will have something to share with [p]one who has need. 29 Let no [q](BR)unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for (BS)building up [r]what is needed, so that it will give grace to those who hear. 30 (BT)And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, [s]by whom you were (BU)sealed for the day of redemption. 31 (BV)Let all bitterness and anger and wrath and shouting and slander be (BW)put away from you, along with all (BX)malice. 32 (BY)Instead, be kind to one another, tender-hearted, graciously forgiving each other, (BZ)just as God in Christ also has graciously forgiven [t]you.
