1 Kings 10

The Queen of Sheba

10 (A)Now the (B)queen of (C)Sheba heard the report about Solomon concerning the name of Yahweh. So she came (D)to test him with riddles. She came to Jerusalem with a very glorious retinue, with camels (E)carrying spices and very much gold and precious stones. And she came to Solomon and spoke to him about all that was in her heart. And Solomon declared to her the answer to all her matters; there was not a matter which was hidden from the king which he did not declare to her. Then the queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built, the food of his table, the seating of his servants, the disposition of his attendants and their attire, his cupbearers, and [a]his stairway by which he went up to the house of Yahweh, so that there was no more spirit in her. Then she said to the king, “The word is true which I heard in my own land about your words and your wisdom. Nevertheless I did not believe those words, until I came and my eyes had seen it. And behold, the half was not declared to me. You exceed, in wisdom and prosperity, the report which I heard. How (F)blessed are your men, how blessed are these your servants who stand before you continually and hear your wisdom. (G)Blessed be Yahweh your God who delighted in you, to set you on the throne of Israel; (H)because Yahweh loved Israel forever, therefore He made you king, (I)to do justice and righteousness.” 10 (J)Then she gave the king [b]120 talents of gold and a very great amount of spices and precious stones. Never again did such abundance of spices come in as that which the queen of Sheba gave King Solomon.

11 (K)Also, the ships of Hiram, which carried gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir a very great number of almug trees and precious stones. 12 (L)And the king made of the almug trees supports for the house of Yahweh and for the king’s house, also lyres and harps for the singers; such almug trees have not come in again nor have they been seen to this day.

13 Thus King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire which she asked, besides what he gave her according to [c]his royal bounty. Then she turned and went to her own land, she and her servants.

Solomon’s Riches and Wisdom

14 (M)Now the weight of gold which came to Solomon in one year was 666 talents of gold, 15 besides that from the traders and the [d]wares of the merchants and all the kings of the (N)Arabs and the governors of the country. 16 (O)And King Solomon made 200 large shields of beaten gold, [e]using 600 shekels of gold on each large shield. 17 And he made (P)300 shields of beaten gold, [f]using [g]three minas of gold on each shield, and (Q)the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon. 18 Moreover, the king made a great throne of (R)ivory and overlaid it with refined gold. 19 There were six steps to the throne and a round top to the throne at its rear, and [h]arms [i]on each side of the seat, and two lions standing beside the [j]arms. 20 Twelve lions were also standing there on the six steps on the one side and on the other; nothing like it was made for all the other kingdoms. 21 Now all King Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold. None was of silver; it was not considered [k]valuable in the days of Solomon. 22 For (S)the king had at sea the ships of Tarshish with the ships of Hiram; once every three years the ships of Tarshish came carrying gold and silver, ivory and apes and peacocks.

23 (T)So King Solomon became greater than all the kings of the earth in riches and in wisdom. 24 And all the earth was seeking the presence of Solomon, (U)to hear his wisdom which God had put in his heart. 25 (V)And they brought every man his present, articles of silver and gold, garments, weapons, spices, horses, and mules, a set amount year by year.

26 (W)And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen. And he had 1,400 chariots and 12,000 horsemen and [l]stationed them in the (X)chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem. 27 (Y)The king also made silver as plentiful as stones in Jerusalem, and he made cedars as plentiful as sycamore trees that are in the [m]Shephelah. 28 (Z)Solomon’s import of horses was from Egypt and Kue; the king’s merchants procured them from Kue for a price. 29 And a chariot [n]was imported from Egypt for 600 shekels of silver, and a horse for 150; and [o]by the same means they exported them (AA)to all the kings of the Hittites and to the kings of Aram.

Philippians 1

Thanksgiving

(A)Paul and (B)Timothy, (C)slaves of (D)Christ Jesus,

To (E)all the [a](F)saints in Christ Jesus who are in (G)Philippi, with the (H)overseers and (I)deacons: (J)Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

(K)I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in (L)my every prayer for you all, because of your [b](M)fellowship in the (N)gospel (O)from the first day until now. For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until (P)the day of Christ Jesus. [c]For (Q)it is only right for me to think this way about you all, because I (R)have you in my heart, since both in my (S)chains and in the (T)defense and confirmation of the (U)gospel, you all are fellow partakers with me in this grace. For (V)God is my witness, how I long for you all with the [d]affection of (W)Christ Jesus. And this I pray, that (X)your love may abound still more and more in (Y)full knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may [e](Z)approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and without fault [f]until (AA)the day of Christ, 11 having been filled with the (AB)fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

The Progress of the Gospel

12 Now I want you to know, brothers, that my circumstances (AC)have turned out for the greater progress of the (AD)gospel, 13 so that my (AE)chains in Christ have become well known throughout the whole [g]praetorian guard and to (AF)everyone else, 14 and that most of the [h]brothers, having become confident in the Lord because of my (AG)chains, have (AH)far more courage to speak the word of God without fear. 15 (AI)Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even [i]from envy and strife, but some also [j]from good will; 16 the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the (AJ)gospel; 17 the former proclaim Christ (AK)out of selfish ambition [k]rather than from pure motives, thinking to cause me affliction in my (AL)chains. 18 What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in this I rejoice.

Yes, and I will rejoice, 19 for I know that (AM)this will turn out for my salvation (AN)through your [l]prayers and the provision of (AO)the Spirit of Jesus Christ, 20 according to my (AP)earnest expectation and (AQ)hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with (AR)all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be (AS)magnified in my body, (AT)whether by life or by death.

To Live Is Christ

21 For to me, (AU)to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 [m]But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean (AV)fruitful labor for me; and I do not know what I will choose. 23 But I am hard-pressed [n]between the two, having the (AW)desire to depart and (AX)be with Christ, for that is very much better, 24 yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. 25 (AY)And convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy [o]in the faith, 26 so that your reason for (AZ)boasting may abound in Christ Jesus in me, through my coming to you again.

27 Only [p]live your lives in a manner (BA)worthy of the (BB)gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear about your circumstances, that you are (BC)standing firm in (BD)one spirit, with one [q]mind (BE)contending together for the faith of the gospel, 28 in no way alarmed by your opponents—which is a (BF)sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God. 29 For to you (BG)it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to (BH)suffer for His sake, 30 having the same (BI)struggle which (BJ)you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

Ezekiel 40

Visions of the House of Yahweh

40 In the (A)twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth of the month, in the fourteenth year after the (B)city was struck down, on that same day the (C)hand of Yahweh was upon me, and He brought me there. In the (D)visions of God He brought me into the land of Israel and caused me to rest on a very (E)high mountain, and on it (F)to the south there was a (G)structure like a city. So He brought me there; and behold, there was a man whose appearance was like the appearance of (H)bronze, with a (I)line of flax and a (J)measuring [a]rod in his hand; and he was standing in the gateway. And the man spoke to me, “(K)Son of man, (L)see with your eyes, hear with your ears, and set your heart on all that I am going to show you; for you have been brought here in order to show it to you. (M)Declare to the house of Israel all that you are seeing.”

The East Gate

And behold, there was a (N)wall on the outside of the house of Yahweh all around, and in the man’s hand was a measuring rod of six cubits, each of which was a [b]cubit and a [c]handbreadth. So he measured the thickness of the [d]wall, one rod; and the height, one rod. Then he went to the gate which faced (O)east, went up its steps, and measured the threshold of the gate, one rod [e]in width; and the other threshold was one rod [f]in width. The (P)guardroom was one rod long and one rod wide; and there were five cubits between the guardrooms. And the threshold of the gate by the porch of the gate [g]facing inward was one rod. Then he measured the porch of the gate [h]facing inward, one rod. He measured the porch of the gate, eight cubits; and its side pillars, two cubits. And the porch of the gate was [i]faced inward. 10 The guardrooms of the gate toward the east numbered three on each side; the three of them had the same measurement. The side pillars also had the same measurement on each side. 11 And he measured the width of the entrance of the gate, ten cubits, and the length of the gate, thirteen cubits. 12 There was a [j]barrier wall one cubit wide in front of the guardrooms on each side; and the guardrooms were six cubits square on each side. 13 He measured the gate from the roof of the one guardroom to the roof of the other, a width of twenty-five cubits from one door to the door opposite. 14 He made the side pillars sixty cubits high; the gate extended round about to the side pillar of the (Q)courtyard. 15 From the front of the entrance gate to the front of the inner porch of the gate was fifty cubits. 16 There were [k](R)shuttered windows looking toward the guardrooms and toward their side pillars within the gate all around, and likewise for the porches. And there were windows all around inside; and on each side pillar were (S)palm tree ornaments.

The Outer Court Chambers

17 Then he brought me into the (T)outer court, and behold, there were (U)chambers and a pavement made for the court all around; thirty chambers [l]faced the pavement. 18 The pavement (that is, the lower pavement) was by the [m]side of the gates, corresponding to the length of the gates. 19 Then he measured the width from the front of the (V)lower gate to the front of the exterior of the inner court, [n]one (W)hundred cubits on the east and on the north.

The North Gate

20 As for the (X)gate of the outer court which faced the north, he measured its length and its width. 21 [o]It had three (Y)guardrooms on each side; and its (Z)side pillars and its porches [p]had the same measurement as the first gate. Its length was [q](AA)fifty cubits and the width (AB)twenty-five cubits. 22 Its (AC)windows and its porches and its palm tree ornaments had the same measurements as the (AD)gate which faced toward the east; and [r]it was reached by seven (AE)steps, and its [s]porch was in front of them. 23 The inner court had a gate opposite the gate on the north as well as the gate on the east; and he measured one (AF)hundred cubits from gate to gate.

The South Gate

24 Then he led me toward the south, and behold, there was a (AG)gate toward the south; and he measured its (AH)side pillars and its porches according to [t]those same measurements. 25 [u]The gate and its porches had (AI)windows all around like [v]those other windows; the length was (AJ)fifty cubits and the width twenty-five cubits. 26 There were seven (AK)steps going up to it, and its porches were in front of them; and it had (AL)palm tree ornaments on its side pillars, one on each side. 27 The inner court had a gate toward the (AM)south; and he measured from gate to gate toward the south, one (AN)hundred cubits.

The Inner Court Gates

28 Then he brought me to the inner court by the south gate; and he measured the south gate (AO)according to those same measurements. 29 Its (AP)guardrooms also, its side pillars, and its (AQ)porches were according to those same measurements. And [w]the gate and its porches had (AR)windows all around; it was (AS)fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 30 There were (AT)porches all around, twenty-five cubits long and five cubits wide. 31 Its porches were toward the outer court; and (AU)palm tree ornaments were on its side pillars, and its stairway had eight (AV)steps.

32 Then he brought me into the (AW)inner court toward the east. And he measured the gate (AX)according to those same measurements. 33 Its (AY)guardrooms also, its side pillars, and its porches were according to those same measurements. And [x]the gate and its porches had (AZ)windows all around; it was (BA)fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 34 Its (BB)porches were toward the outer court; and (BC)palm tree ornaments were on its side pillars, on each side, and its stairway had eight (BD)steps.

35 Then he brought me to the (BE)north gate; and he measured it according to those same measurements, 36 with its (BF)guardrooms, its side pillars, and its (BG)porches. And [y]the gate had (BH)windows all around; the length was (BI)fifty cubits and the width twenty-five cubits. 37 Its side pillars were toward the outer court; and (BJ)palm tree ornaments were on its side pillars on each side, and its stairway had eight (BK)steps.

38 A (BL)chamber with its doorway was by the side pillars at the gates; there they (BM)rinse the burnt offering. 39 In the porch of the gate were two (BN)tables on each side, on which to slaughter the (BO)burnt offering, the sin offering and the guilt offering. 40 On the outer [z]side, [aa]as one went up to the entrance of the gate toward the north, were two tables; and on the other [ab]side of the porch of the gate were two tables. 41 Four (BP)tables were on each side [ac]next to the gate; or, eight tables on which they slaughter sacrifices. 42 For the burnt offering there were four (BQ)tables of (BR)cut stone, a cubit and a half long, a cubit and a half wide, and one cubit high, on which they lay the instruments with which they slaughter the (BS)burnt offering and the sacrifice. 43 The double [ad]hooks, one handbreadth in length, were installed [ae]in the house all around; and on the tables was the flesh of the offering.

The Chambers for the Priests

44 From the outside to the (BT)inner gate were [af](BU)chambers for the (BV)singers in the inner court, one of which was at the [ag]side of the north gate, with [ah]its front toward the south, and one at the [ai]side of the [aj]south gate facing toward the north. 45 Then he said to me, “This is the (BW)chamber which faces toward the south, intended for the priests who (BX)keep the responsibility of the house; 46 but the (BY)chamber which faces toward the north is for the priests who (BZ)keep the responsibility of the altar. These are the (CA)sons of Zadok, who from the sons of Levi (CB)come near to Yahweh to minister to Him.” 47 He measured the court, a perfect square, one (CC)hundred cubits long and one hundred cubits wide; and the altar was in front of the house.

The Porch

48 Then he brought me to the (CD)porch of the house and measured each side pillar of the porch, five cubits on each side; and the width of the gate was three cubits on each side. 49 The length of the porch was twenty cubits and the width eleven cubits; and at the (CE)stairway by which it was ascended were (CF)columns belonging to the side pillars, one on each side.

Psalm 91

In the Shadow of the Almighty

91 He who abides in the (A)shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the (B)shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to Yahweh, “My (C)refuge and my (D)fortress,
My God, in whom I (E)trust!”
For it is He who delivers you from the (F)snare of the trapper
And from the destructive (G)pestilence.
He will (H)cover you with His pinions,
And (I)under His wings you will take refuge;
His (J)truth is a (K)large shield and bulwark.

You (L)will not be afraid of (M)terror by night,
Or (N)arrow that flies by day;
Of (O)pestilence that moves in darkness,
Or of (P)destruction that devastates at noon.
A thousand may fall at your side
And ten thousand at your right hand,
But (Q)it shall not approach you.
You will only look on with your eyes
And (R)see the recompense of the wicked.
[a]For you have made Yahweh—(S)my refuge,
The Most High—(T)your dwelling place.
10 (U)No evil will befall you,
And no plague will come near your [b]tent.

11 For He will command (V)His angels concerning you,
To guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will (W)bear you up,
Lest you strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will (X)tread upon the fierce lion and cobra,
The young lion and the [c]serpent you will trample down.

14 (Y)Because he has loved Me, therefore I will protect him;
I will (Z)set him securely on high, because he has (AA)known My name.
15 He will (AB)call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in his [d]distress;
I will rescue him and (AC)honor him.
16 With [e]a (AD)long life I will satisfy him
And (AE)I will show him My salvation.”
