M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
Idols Are Destroyed
31 Now when all this was finished, all Israel who were present went out to the cities of Judah, (A)broke the pillars in pieces, cut down the [a]Asherim and pulled down the high places and the altars throughout all Judah and Benjamin, as well as in Ephraim and Manasseh, [b]until they had destroyed them all. Then all the sons of Israel returned to their cities, each to his possession.
2 And Hezekiah appointed (B)the divisions of the priests and the Levites by their divisions, each according to his service, both the priests and the Levites, (C)for burnt offerings and for peace offerings, to minister and to give thanks and to praise in the gates of the camp of the Lord.
Reforms Continued
3 He also appointed (D)the king’s portion of his goods for the burnt offerings, namely, for the morning and evening burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for the sabbaths and for the new moons and for the fixed festivals, (E)as it is written in the law of the Lord. 4 Also he [c]commanded the people who lived in Jerusalem to give (F)the portion due to the priests and the Levites, that they might devote themselves to (G)the law of the Lord. 5 As soon as the [d]order spread, the sons of Israel provided in abundance the first fruits of grain, new wine, oil, honey and of all the produce of the field; and they brought in abundantly (H)the tithe of all. 6 The sons of Israel and Judah who lived in the cities of Judah also brought in the tithe of oxen and sheep, and (I)the tithe of [e]sacred gifts which were consecrated to the Lord their God, and placed them in heaps. 7 In the third month they began to [f]make the heaps, and finished them by the seventh month. 8 When Hezekiah and the rulers came and saw the heaps, they blessed the Lord and (J)His people Israel. 9 Then Hezekiah questioned the priests and the Levites concerning the heaps. 10 Azariah the chief priest (K)of the house of Zadok said to [g]him, “(L)Since the contributions began to be brought into the house of the Lord, we have had enough to eat with plenty left over, for the Lord has blessed His people, and this great quantity is left over.”
11 Then Hezekiah commanded them to prepare (M)rooms in the house of the Lord, and they prepared them. 12 They faithfully brought in the contributions and the tithes and the consecrated things; and Conaniah the Levite was the officer in charge (N)of them and his brother Shimei was second. 13 Jehiel, Azaziah, Nahath, Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismachiah, Mahath and Benaiah were overseers [h]under the authority of Conaniah and Shimei his brother by the appointment of King Hezekiah, and (O)Azariah was the chief officer of the house of God. 14 Kore the son of Imnah the Levite, the keeper of the eastern gate, was over the freewill offerings of God, to apportion the contributions for the Lord and the most holy things. 15 [i]Under his authority were (P)Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah and Shecaniah in (Q)the cities of the priests, to distribute faithfully their portions to their brothers by divisions, whether great or small, 16 without regard to their genealogical enrollment, to the males from [j](R)thirty years old and upward—everyone who entered the house of the Lord (S)for his daily obligations—for their work in their duties according to their divisions; 17 as well as the priests who were enrolled genealogically according to their fathers’ households, and the Levites (T)from twenty years old and upwards, by their duties and their divisions. 18 The genealogical enrollment included [k]all their little children, their wives, their sons and their daughters, for the whole assembly, for they consecrated themselves [l]faithfully in holiness. 19 Also for the sons of Aaron the priests who were in (U)the pasture lands of their cities, or in each and every city, (V)there were men who were designated by name to distribute portions to every male among the priests and to everyone genealogically enrolled among the Levites.
20 Thus Hezekiah did throughout all Judah; and (W)he did what was good, right and true before the Lord his God. 21 Every work which he began in the service of the house of God in law and in commandment, seeking his God, he did with all his heart and (X)prospered.
The Doom of Babylon
17 (A)Then one of the (B)seven angels who had the (C)seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, “Come here, I will show you (D)the judgment of the (E)great harlot who (F)sits on many waters, 2 with whom (G)the kings of the earth committed acts of immorality, and (H)those who dwell on the earth were (I)made drunk with the wine of her immorality.” 3 And (J)he carried me away [a](K)in the Spirit (L)into a wilderness; and I saw a woman sitting on a (M)scarlet beast, full of (N)blasphemous names, having (O)seven heads and ten horns. 4 The woman (P)was clothed in purple and scarlet, and [b]adorned with gold and precious [c]stones and pearls, having in her hand (Q)a gold cup full of abominations and of the unclean things of her immorality, 5 and on her forehead a name was written, a (R)mystery, “(S)BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF (T)THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” 6 And I saw the woman drunk with (U)the blood of the [d]saints, and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus. When I saw her, I wondered [e]greatly. 7 And the angel said to me, “Why [f]do you wonder? I will tell you the (V)mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the (W)seven heads and the ten horns.
8 “(X)The beast that you saw (Y)was, and is not, and is about to (Z)come up out of the (AA)abyss and [g](AB)go to destruction. And (AC)those who dwell on the earth, (AD)whose name has not been written in the book of life (AE)from the foundation of the world, will (AF)wonder when they see the beast, that he was and is not and will come. 9 (AG)Here is the mind which has wisdom. The (AH)seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits, 10 and they are seven (AI)kings; five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; and when he comes, he must remain a little while. 11 The beast which (AJ)was and is not, is himself also an eighth and is one of the seven, and he (AK)goes to destruction. 12 The (AL)ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they receive authority as kings with the beast (AM)for one hour. 13 These have (AN)one [h]purpose, and they give their power and authority to the beast.
Victory for the Lamb
14 These will wage (AO)war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will (AP)overcome them, because He is (AQ)Lord of lords and (AR)King of kings, and (AS)those who are with Him are the (AT)called and chosen and faithful.”
15 And he *said to me, “The (AU)waters which you saw where the harlot sits, are (AV)peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues. 16 And the (AW)ten horns which you saw, and the beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her (AX)desolate and (AY)naked, and will (AZ)eat her flesh and will (BA)burn her up with fire. 17 For (BB)God has put it in their hearts to execute His [i]purpose [j]by (BC)having a common purpose, and by giving their kingdom to the beast, until the (BD)words of God will be fulfilled. 18 The woman whom you saw is (BE)the great city, which [k]reigns over the kings of the earth.”
2 “It will come about in that day,” declares the Lord of hosts, “that I will (A)cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered; and I will also remove the (B)prophets and the (C)unclean spirit from the land. 3 And if anyone still (D)prophesies, then his father and mother who gave birth to him will say to him, ‘You shall (E)not live, for you have spoken (F)falsely in the name of the Lord’; and his (G)father and mother who gave birth to him will pierce him through when he prophesies. 4 Also it will come about in that day that the prophets will each be (H)ashamed of his vision when he prophesies, and they will not put on a (I)hairy robe in order to deceive; 5 but he will say, ‘I am (J)not a prophet; I am a tiller of the ground, for a man [a]sold me as a slave in my youth.’ 6 And one will say to him, ‘What are these wounds (K)between your [b]arms?’ Then he will say, ‘Those with which I was wounded in the house of [c]my friends.’
7 “Awake, O (L)sword, against My (M)Shepherd,
And against the man, My (N)Associate,”
Declares the Lord of hosts.
“(O)Strike the Shepherd that the sheep may be scattered;
And I will (P)turn My hand [d]against the little ones.
8 “It will come about in all the land,”
Declares the Lord,
“That (Q)two parts in it will be cut off and perish;
But the third will be left in it.
9 “And I will bring the third part through the (R)fire,
Refine them as silver is refined,
And test them as gold is tested.
They will (S)call on My name,
And I will (T)answer them;
I will say, ‘They are (U)My people,’
And they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’”
Jesus’ Warning
16 “(A)These things I have spoken to you so that you may be kept from (B)stumbling. 2 [a]They will (C)make you outcasts from the synagogue, but (D)an hour is coming for everyone (E)who kills you to think that he is offering service to God. 3 These things they will do (F)because they have not known the Father or Me. 4 But these things I have spoken to you, (G)so that when their hour comes, you [b]may remember that I told you of them. These things I did not say to you (H)at the beginning, because I was with you.
The Holy Spirit Promised
5 “But now (I)I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘(J)Where are You going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, (K)sorrow has filled your heart. 7 But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the [c](L)Helper will not come to you; but if I go, (M)I will send Him to you. 8 And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; 9 concerning sin, (N)because they do not believe in Me; 10 and concerning (O)righteousness, because (P)I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; 11 (Q)and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
12 “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 But when He, (R)the Spirit of truth, comes, He will (S)guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. 14 He will (T)glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. 15 (U)All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.
Jesus’ Death and Resurrection Foretold
16 “(V)A little while, and (W)you will no longer see Me; and again a little while, and (X)you will see Me.” 17 Some of His disciples then said to one another, “What is this thing He is telling us, ‘(Y)A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because (Z)I go to the Father’?” 18 So they were saying, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not know what He is talking about.” 19 (AA)Jesus knew that they wished to question Him, and He said to them, “Are you deliberating together about this, that I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me’? 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, that (AB)you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but (AC)your grief will be turned into joy. 21 (AD)Whenever a woman is in labor she has [d]pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a [e]child has been born into the world. 22 Therefore (AE)you too have grief now; but (AF)I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.
Prayer Promises
23 (AG)In that day (AH)you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, (AI)if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. 24 (AJ)Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your (AK)joy may be made full.
25 “These things I have spoken to you in [f](AL)figurative language; (AM)an hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in [g]figurative language, but will tell you plainly of the Father. 26 (AN)In that day (AO)you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I will request of the Father on your behalf; 27 for (AP)the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and (AQ)have believed that (AR)I came forth from the Father. 28 (AS)I came forth from the Father and have come into the world; I am leaving the world again and (AT)going to the Father.”
29 His disciples *said, “Lo, now You are speaking plainly and are not [h]using (AU)a figure of speech. 30 Now we know that You know all things, and have no need for anyone to question You; by this we (AV)believe that You (AW)came from God.” 31 Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe? 32 Behold, (AX)an hour is coming, and has already come, for (AY)you to be scattered, each to (AZ)his own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet (BA)I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. 33 These things I have spoken to you, so that (BB)in Me you may have peace. (BC)In the world you have tribulation, but (BD)take courage; (BE)I have overcome the world.”
