M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
The Shekinah Glory
7 (A)Now when Solomon had finished praying, (B)fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the house. 2 (C)The priests could not enter into the house of the Lord because the glory of the Lord filled the Lord’s house. 3 All the sons of Israel, seeing the fire come down and the glory of the Lord upon the house, bowed down on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave praise to the Lord, saying, “(D)Truly He is good, truly His lovingkindness is everlasting.”
Sacrifices Offered
4 (E)Then the king and all the people offered sacrifice before the Lord. 5 King Solomon offered a sacrifice of 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep. Thus the king and all the people dedicated the house of God. 6 The priests stood at their posts, and (F)the Levites also, with the instruments of music to the Lord, which King David had made for giving praise to the Lord—“for His lovingkindness is everlasting”—whenever [a]he gave praise by their [b]means, while (G)the priests on the other side blew trumpets; and all Israel was standing.
7 (H)Then Solomon consecrated the middle of the court that was before the house of the Lord, for there he offered the burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings because the bronze altar which Solomon had made was not able to contain the burnt offering, the grain offering and the fat.
The Feast of Dedication
8 So (I)Solomon observed the feast at that time for seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great assembly who came from the entrance of Hamath to the (J)brook of Egypt. 9 On the eighth day they held (K)a solemn assembly, for the dedication of the altar they observed seven days and the feast seven days. 10 Then on the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people to their tents, rejoicing and happy of heart because of the goodness that the Lord had shown to David and to Solomon and to His people Israel.
God’s Promise and Warning
11 (L)Thus Solomon finished the house of the Lord and the king’s palace, and successfully completed all that [c]he had planned on doing in the house of the Lord and in his palace.
12 Then the Lord appeared to Solomon at night and said to him, “I have heard your prayer and (M)have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice. 13 (N)If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, 14 (O)and My people [d]who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 15 (P)Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the [e]prayer offered in this place. 16 For (Q)now I have chosen and consecrated this house that My name may be there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually. 17 As for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, even to do according to all that I have commanded you, and will keep My statutes and My ordinances, 18 then I will establish your royal throne as I covenanted with your father David, saying, ‘[f](R)You shall not lack a man to be ruler in Israel.’
19 “(S)But if you turn away and forsake My statutes and My commandments which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them, 20 (T)then I will uproot you from My land which I have given [g]you, and this house which I have consecrated for My name I will cast out of My sight and I will make it (U)a proverb and a byword among all peoples. 21 As for this house, which was exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and say, ‘(V)Why has the Lord done thus to this land and to this house?’ 22 And they will say, ‘Because (W)they forsook the Lord, the God of their fathers who brought them from the land of Egypt, and they adopted other gods and worshiped them and served them; therefore He has brought all this adversity on them.’”
Walk According to His Commandments
1 (A)The elder to the (B)chosen (C)lady and her children, whom I (D)love in truth; and not only I, but also all who (E)know the truth, 2 for (F)the sake of the truth which abides (G)in us and will be (H)with us forever: 3 (I)Grace, mercy and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
4 (J)I was very glad to find some of your children walking in truth, just as we have received commandment to do from the Father. 5 Now I ask you, lady, (K)not as though I were writing to you a new commandment, but the one which we have had (L)from the beginning, that we (M)love one another. 6 And (N)this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, (O)just as you have heard (P)from the beginning, that you should walk in it.
7 For (Q)many deceivers have (R)gone out into the world, those who (S)do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is (T)the deceiver and the (U)antichrist. 8 (V)Watch yourselves, (W)that you do not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward. 9 [a]Anyone who [b]goes too far and (X)does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, (Y)do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting; 11 for the one who gives him a greeting (Z)participates in his evil deeds.
12 (AA)Though I have many things to write to you, I do not want to do so with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, so that [c]your (AB)joy may be made full.
13 The children of your (AC)chosen sister greet you.
God Answers the Prophet
2 I will (A)stand on my guard post
And station myself on the rampart;
And I will (B)keep watch to see (C)what He will speak to me,
And how I may reply [a]when I am reproved.
2 Then the Lord answered me and said,
“(D)Record the vision
And inscribe it on tablets,
That [b]the one who [c]reads it may run.
3 “For the vision is yet for the (E)appointed time;
It [d]hastens toward the goal and it will not [e]fail.
Though it tarries, (F)wait for it;
For it will certainly come, it (G)will not delay.
4 “Behold, as for the (H)proud one,
His soul is not right within him;
But the (I)righteous will live by his [f]faith.
5 “Furthermore, (J)wine betrays the (K)haughty man,
So that he does not (L)stay at home.
He (M)enlarges his appetite like Sheol,
And he is like death, never satisfied.
He also gathers to himself all nations
And collects to himself all peoples.
6 “Will not all of these (N)take up a taunt-song against him,
Even mockery and insinuations against him
And say, ‘(O)Woe to him who increases what is not his—
For how long—
And makes himself [g]rich with loans?’
7 “Will not [h]your creditors (P)rise up suddenly,
And those who [i]collect from you awaken?
Indeed, you will become plunder for them.
8 “Because you have (Q)looted many nations,
All the remainder of the peoples will loot you—
Because of human bloodshed and violence [j]done to the land,
To the town and all its inhabitants.
9 “Woe to him who gets (R)evil gain for his house
To (S)put his nest on high,
To be delivered from the hand of calamity!
10 “You have devised a (T)shameful thing for your house
By cutting off many peoples;
So you are (U)sinning against yourself.
11 “Surely the (V)stone will cry out from the wall,
And the rafter will answer it from the [k]framework.
12 “Woe to him who (W)builds a city with bloodshed
And founds a town with [l]violence!
13 “Is it not indeed from the Lord of hosts
That peoples (X)toil for fire,
And nations grow weary for nothing?
14 “For the earth will be (Y)filled
With the knowledge of the glory of the Lord,
As the waters cover the sea.
15 “Woe to you who make [m]your neighbors drink,
Who mix in your venom even to make them drunk
So as to look on their nakedness!
16 “You will be filled with disgrace rather than honor.
Now you yourself (Z)drink and [n]expose your own nakedness.
The (AA)cup in the Lord’s right hand will come around to you,
And (AB)utter disgrace will come upon your glory.
17 “For the (AC)violence [o]done to Lebanon will [p]overwhelm you,
And the devastation of its beasts [q]by which you terrified them,
(AD)Because of human bloodshed and (AE)violence [r]done to the land,
To the town and all its inhabitants.
18 “What (AF)profit is the [s]idol when its maker has carved it,
Or [t]an image, a (AG)teacher of falsehood?
For its maker (AH)trusts in his own handiwork
When he fashions speechless idols.
19 “Woe to him who (AI)says to a piece of wood, ‘(AJ)Awake!’
To a mute stone, ‘Arise!’
And that is your teacher?
Behold, it is overlaid with (AK)gold and silver,
And there is (AL)no breath at all inside it.
20 “But the (AM)Lord is in His holy temple.
[u]Let all the earth (AN)be silent before Him.”
The Widow’s Gift
21 (A)And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury. 2 And He saw a poor widow putting [a]in (B)two [b]small copper coins. 3 And He said, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all of them; 4 for they all out of their [c]surplus put into the [d]offering; but she out of her poverty put in all [e]that she had (C)to live on.”
5 (D)And while some were talking about the temple, that it was adorned with beautiful stones and votive gifts, He said, 6 “As for these things which you are looking at, the days will come in which (E)there will not be left one stone upon another which will not be torn down.”
7 They questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, when therefore will these things happen? And what will be the [f]sign when these things are about to take place?” 8 And He said, “See to it that you are not misled; for many will come in My name, saying, ‘(F)I am He,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ (G)Do not go after them. 9 When you hear of wars and disturbances, do not be terrified; for these things must take place first, but the end does not follow immediately.”
Things to Come
10 Then He continued by saying to them, “Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, 11 and there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be terrors and great [g]signs from heaven.
12 “But before all these things, (H)they will lay their hands on you and will persecute you, delivering you to the synagogues and prisons, [h]bringing you before kings and governors for My name’s sake. 13 (I)It will lead to [i]an opportunity for your testimony. 14 (J)So make up your minds not to prepare beforehand to defend yourselves; 15 for (K)I will give you [j]utterance and wisdom which none of your opponents will be able to resist or refute. 16 But you will be betrayed even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death, 17 and you will be hated by all because of My name. 18 Yet (L)not a hair of your head will perish. 19 (M)By your endurance you will gain your [k]lives.
20 “But when you see Jerusalem (N)surrounded by armies, then [l]recognize that her desolation is near. 21 Then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains, and those who are in the midst of [m]the city must leave, and (O)those who are in the country must not enter [n]the city; 22 because these are (P)days of vengeance, so that all things which are written will be fulfilled. 23 Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days; for (Q)there will be great distress upon the [o]land and wrath to this people; 24 and they will fall by (R)the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; and (S)Jerusalem will be (T)trampled under foot by the Gentiles until (U)the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
The Return of Christ
25 “There will be [p]signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, 26 men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the [q]world; for the powers of [r]the heavens will be shaken. 27 (V)Then they will see (W)the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because (X)your redemption is drawing near.”
29 Then He told them a parable: “Behold the fig tree and all the trees; 30 as soon as they put forth leaves, you see it and (Y)know for yourselves that summer is now near. 31 So you also, when you see these things happening, [s]recognize that (Z)the kingdom of God is near. 32 Truly I say to you, this [t]generation will not pass away until all things take place. 33 (AA)Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
34 “(AB)Be on guard, so that your hearts will not be weighted down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that day will not come on you suddenly like a trap; 35 for it will come upon all those who dwell on the face of all the earth. 36 But (AC)keep on the alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, and to (AD)stand before the Son of Man.”
37 Now [u]during the day He was (AE)teaching in the temple, but [v](AF)at evening He would go out and spend the night on [w](AG)the mount that is called [x]Olivet. 38 And all the people would get up (AH)early in the morning to come to Him in the temple to listen to Him.
