M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
Uzziah Succeeds Amaziah in Judah
26 And all the people of Judah took [a]Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the place of his father Amaziah. 2 He built Eloth and restored it to Judah after the king slept with his fathers. 3 Uzziah was (A)sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was [b]Jechiliah of Jerusalem. 4 He did right in the sight of the Lord according to all that his father Amaziah had done. 5 (B)He continued to seek God in the days of Zechariah, (C)who had understanding [c]through the vision of God; and [d](D)as long as he sought the Lord, God prospered him.
Uzziah Succeeds in War
6 Now he went out and (E)warred against the Philistines, and broke down the wall of Gath and the wall of Jabneh and the wall of Ashdod; and he built cities in the area of Ashdod and among the Philistines. 7 (F)God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians who lived in Gur-baal, and the Meunites. 8 The Ammonites also gave (G)tribute to Uzziah, and his [e]fame extended to the border of Egypt, for he became very strong. 9 Moreover, Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at (H)the Corner Gate and at the (I)Valley Gate and at the corner buttress and fortified them. 10 He built towers in the wilderness and (J)hewed many cisterns, for he had much livestock, both in the [f]lowland and in the plain. He also had plowmen and vinedressers in the hill country and the fertile fields, for he loved the soil. 11 Moreover, Uzziah had an army ready for battle, which [g]entered combat by divisions according to the number of their muster, [h]prepared by Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the official, under the direction of Hananiah, one of the king’s officers. 12 The total number of the heads of the [i]households, of valiant warriors, was 2,600. 13 Under their direction was an [j]elite army of (K)307,500, who could wage war with great power, to help the king against the enemy. 14 Moreover, Uzziah prepared [k]for all the army shields, spears, helmets, body armor, bows and sling stones. 15 In Jerusalem he made engines of war invented by skillful men to be on the towers and on the corners for the purpose of shooting arrows and great stones. Hence his [l]fame spread afar, for he was marvelously helped until he was strong.
Pride Is Uzziah’s Undoing
16 But (L)when he became strong, his heart was so [m]proud that he acted corruptly, and he was unfaithful to the Lord his God, for (M)he entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense. 17 Then (N)Azariah the priest entered after him and with him eighty priests of the Lord, valiant men. 18 (O)They opposed Uzziah the king and said to him, “(P)It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord, (Q)but for the priests, the sons of Aaron who are consecrated to burn incense. Get out of the sanctuary, for you have been unfaithful and will have no honor from the Lord God.” 19 But Uzziah, with a censer in his hand for burning incense, was enraged; and while he was enraged with the priests, (R)the leprosy broke out on his forehead before the priests in the house of the Lord, beside the altar of incense. 20 Azariah the chief priest and all the priests looked at him, and behold, he was leprous on his forehead; and they hurried him out of there, and he himself also hastened to get out because the Lord had smitten him. 21 (S)King Uzziah was a leper to the day of his death; and he lived in (T)a separate house, being a leper, for he was cut off from the house of the Lord. And Jotham his son was over the king’s house judging the people of the land.
22 Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first to last, the prophet (U)Isaiah, the son of Amoz, has written. 23 So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers (V)in the field of the grave which belonged to the kings, for they said, “He is a leper.” And Jotham his son became king in his place.
The Beast from the Sea
13 And the dragon stood on the sand of the [a]seashore.
Then I saw a (A)beast coming up out of the sea, having (B)ten horns and (C)seven heads, and on his horns were (D)ten diadems, and on his heads were (E)blasphemous names. 2 And the beast which I saw was (F)like a leopard, and his feet were like those of (G)a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of (H)a lion. And the (I)dragon gave him his power and his (J)throne and great authority. 3 I saw one of his heads as if it had been [b]slain, and his (K)fatal wound was healed. And the whole earth (L)was amazed and followed after the beast; 4 they worshiped the (M)dragon because he (N)gave his authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “(O)Who is like the beast, and who is able to wage war with him?” 5 There was given to him a mouth (P)speaking [c]arrogant words and blasphemies, and authority to act for (Q)forty-two months was given to him. 6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme His name and His tabernacle, that is, (R)those who [d]dwell in heaven.
7 It was also given to him to (S)make war with the [e]saints and to overcome them, and authority over (T)every tribe and people and tongue and nation was given to him. 8 All who (U)dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone (V)whose name has not been [f]written (W)from the foundation of the world in the (X)book of life of (Y)the Lamb who has been slain. 9 (Z)If anyone has an ear, let him hear. 10 (AA)If anyone [g]is destined for captivity, to captivity he goes; (AB)if anyone kills with the sword, with the sword he must be killed. Here is (AC)the [h]perseverance and the faith of the [i]saints.
The Beast from the Earth
11 Then (AD)I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had (AE)two horns like a lamb and he spoke as a (AF)dragon. 12 He (AG)exercises all the authority of the first beast [j](AH)in his presence. And he makes (AI)the earth and those who dwell in it to (AJ)worship the first beast, whose (AK)fatal wound was healed. 13 He (AL)performs great signs, so that he even makes (AM)fire come down out of heaven to the earth in the presence of men. 14 And he (AN)deceives (AO)those who dwell on the earth because of (AP)the signs which it was given him to perform [k](AQ)in the presence of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who *had the (AR)wound of the sword and has come to life. 15 And it was given to him to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast would even [l]speak and cause (AS)as many as do not (AT)worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 And he causes all, (AU)the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, [m]to be given a (AV)mark on their right hand or on their forehead, 17 and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the (AW)mark, either (AX)the name of the beast or (AY)the number of his name. 18 (AZ)Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that (BA)of a man; and his number is [n]six hundred and sixty-six.
Prophecies against Neighboring Nations
9 The [a]burden of the word of the Lord is against the land of Hadrach, with (A)Damascus as its resting place (for the eyes of men, especially of all the tribes of Israel, are toward the Lord),
2 And (B)Hamath also, which borders on it;
(C)Tyre and (D)Sidon, [b]though [c]they are (E)very wise.
3 For Tyre built herself a (F)fortress
And (G)piled up silver like dust,
And (H)gold like the mire of the streets.
4 Behold, the Lord will (I)dispossess her
And cast her wealth into the sea;
And she will be (J)consumed with fire.
5 Ashkelon will see it and be afraid.
Gaza too will writhe in great pain;
Also Ekron, for her expectation has been confounded.
Moreover, the king will perish from Gaza,
And Ashkelon will not be inhabited.
6 And a [d]mongrel race will dwell in (K)Ashdod,
And I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.
7 And I will remove their blood from their mouth
And their detestable things from between their teeth.
Then they also will be a remnant for our God,
And be like a [e]clan in Judah,
And Ekron like a Jebusite.
8 But I will camp around My house [f]because of an army,
Because of (L)him who passes by and returns;
And (M)no oppressor will pass over them anymore,
For now I have seen with My eyes.
9 (N)Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your (O)king is coming to you;
He is [g](P)just and (Q)endowed with salvation,
(R)Humble, and mounted on a donkey,
Even on a (S)colt, the [h]foal of a donkey.
10 I will (T)cut off the chariot from Ephraim
And the (U)horse from Jerusalem;
And the (V)bow of war will be cut off.
And He will speak (W)peace to the nations;
And His (X)dominion will be from sea to sea,
And from the [i]River to the ends of the earth.
Deliverance of Judah and Ephraim
11 As for you also, because of the (Y)blood of My covenant with you,
I have set your (Z)prisoners free from the [j]waterless pit.
12 Return to the [k](AA)stronghold, O prisoners [l]who have the (AB)hope;
This very day I am declaring that I will restore (AC)double to you.
13 For I will (AD)bend Judah [m]as My bow,
I will fill the bow with Ephraim.
And I will stir up your sons, O Zion, against your sons, O (AE)Greece;
And I will make you like a (AF)warrior’s sword.
14 Then the Lord will appear (AG)over them,
And His (AH)arrow will go forth like lightning;
And the Lord [n]God will blow the (AI)trumpet,
And will march in the (AJ)storm winds of the south.
15 (AK)The Lord of hosts will defend them.
And they will (AL)devour and trample on the (AM)sling stones;
And they will drink and be (AN)boisterous as with wine;
And they will be filled like a sacrificial basin,
Drenched like the (AO)corners of the altar.
16 And the Lord their God will (AP)save them in that day
As the flock of His people;
For they are as the stones of a (AQ)crown,
[o]Sparkling in His land.
17 For what [p](AR)comeliness and (AS)beauty will be [q]theirs!
Grain will make the young men flourish, and new wine the virgins.
Mary Anoints Jesus
12 (A)Jesus, therefore, six days before (B)the Passover, came to (C)Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 So they made Him a supper there, and (D)Martha was serving; but Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him. 3 (E)Mary then took a [a]pound of very costly (F)perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. 4 But (G)Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, who was intending to [b]betray Him, *said, 5 “Why was this perfume not sold for [c]three hundred denarii and given to poor people?” 6 Now he said this, not because he was concerned about the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he (H)had the money box, he used to pilfer (I)what was put into it. 7 Therefore Jesus said, “Let her alone, so that she may keep [d]it for (J)the day of My burial. 8 (K)For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me.”
9 The (L)large crowd of the Jews then learned that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, (M)whom He raised from the dead. 10 But the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death also; 11 because (N)on account of him (O)many of the Jews were going away and were believing in Jesus.
Jesus Enters Jerusalem
12 On the next day (P)the large crowd who had come to (Q)the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, “(R)Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the (S)King of Israel.” 14 Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written, 15 “(T)Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.” 16 (U)These things His disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus (V)was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of Him, and that they had done these things to Him. 17 So (W)the [e]people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify about Him. 18 (X)For this reason also the [f]people went and met Him, (Y)because they heard that He had performed this [g]sign. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are not doing any good; look, the world has gone after Him.”
Greeks Seek Jesus
20 Now there were some (Z)Greeks among those who were going up to worship at (AA)the feast; 21 these then came to (AB)Philip, who was from (AC)Bethsaida of Galilee, and began to ask him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” 22 Philip *came and *told (AD)Andrew; Andrew and Philip *came and *told Jesus. 23 And Jesus *answered them, saying, “(AE)The hour has come for the Son of Man to (AF)be glorified. 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, (AG)unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 25 (AH)He who loves his [h]life loses it, and he who (AI)hates his [i]life in this world will keep it to life eternal. 26 If anyone [j]serves Me, he must follow Me; and (AJ)where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone [k]serves Me, the Father will (AK)honor him.
Jesus Foretells His Death
27 “(AL)Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘(AM)Father, save Me from (AN)this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. 28 (AO)Father, glorify Your name.” Then a (AP)voice came out of heaven: “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.” 29 So the crowd of people who stood by and heard it were saying that it had thundered; others were saying, “(AQ)An angel has spoken to Him.” 30 Jesus answered and said, “(AR)This voice has not come for My sake, but for your sakes. 31 (AS)Now judgment is upon this world; now (AT)the ruler of this world will be cast out. 32 And I, if I (AU)am lifted up from the earth, will (AV)draw all men to Myself.” 33 But He was saying this (AW)to indicate the kind of death by which He was to die. 34 The crowd then answered Him, “We have heard out of (AX)the Law that [l](AY)the Christ is to remain forever; and how can You say, ‘The (AZ)Son of Man must be (BA)lifted up’? Who is this (BB)Son of Man?” 35 So Jesus said to them, “(BC)For a little while longer (BD)the Light is among you. (BE)Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; he who (BF)walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. 36 While you have the Light, (BG)believe in the Light, so that you may become (BH)sons of Light.”
These things Jesus spoke, and He went away and [m](BI)hid Himself from them. 37 But though He had performed so many [n]signs before them, yet they were not believing in Him. 38 This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet which he spoke: “(BJ)Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” 39 For this reason they could not believe, for Isaiah said again, 40 “(BK)He has blinded their eyes and He (BL)hardened their heart, so that they would not see with their eyes and perceive with their heart, and [o]be converted and I heal them.” 41 These things Isaiah said because (BM)he saw His glory, and (BN)he spoke of Him. 42 Nevertheless (BO)many even of (BP)the rulers believed in Him, but (BQ)because of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him, for fear that they would be [p](BR)put out of the synagogue; 43 (BS)for they loved the [q]approval of men rather than the [r]approval of God.
44 And Jesus cried out and said, “(BT)He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me. 45 (BU)He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me. 46 (BV)I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness. 47 If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for (BW)I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 (BX)He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; (BY)the word I spoke is what will judge him at (BZ)the last day. 49 (CA)For I did not speak [s]on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me (CB)has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. 50 I know that (CC)His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak (CD)just as the Father has told Me.”
