David’s Song of Deliverance
22 (A)And David spoke to Yahweh (B)the words of this song in the day that Yahweh delivered him from the [a]hand of all his enemies and from the [b]hand of Saul. 2 He said,
“(C)Yahweh is my [c]rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
3 [d](D)My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
My (E)shield and (F)the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and (G)my refuge;
My savior, You save me from violence.
4 I call upon Yahweh, (H)who is worthy to be praised,
And I am saved from my enemies.
5 For (I)the waves of death encompassed me;
(J)The torrents of [e]vileness terrorized me;
6 (K)The cords of Sheol surrounded me;
The snares of death confronted me.
7 (L)In my distress I called upon Yahweh,
And I called to my God;
And out of His temple He heard my voice,
And my cry for help came into His ears.
8 Then (M)the earth shook and quaked;
(N)The foundations of heaven were trembling
And were shaken, because He was angry.
9 Smoke went up [f]out of His nostrils,
(O)And fire from His mouth devoured;
(P)Coals were kindled by it.
10 He bowed the heavens and came down
With (Q)thick darkness under His feet.
11 (R)He rode on a cherub and flew;
And He [g]appeared upon (S)the wings of the wind.
12 (T)And He made darkness [h]canopies around Him,
A mass of waters, thick clouds of the skies.
13 From the brightness before Him
(U)Coals of fire were kindled.
14 (V)Yahweh thundered from heaven,
And the Most High gave forth His voice.
15 (W)And He sent out arrows, and scattered them,
Lightning, and [i]threw them into confusion.
16 Then the channels of the sea appeared,
The foundations of the world were [j]laid bare
By the rebuke of Yahweh,
(X)At the blast of the breath of His nostrils.
17 (Y)He sent from on high, He took me;
(Z)He drew me out of many waters.
18 He delivered me from my strong enemy,
From those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me.
19 They confronted me in the day of my disaster,
(AA)But Yahweh was my support.
20 (AB)He brought me forth also into a broad place;
He rescued me, (AC)because He delighted in me.
21 (AD)Yahweh has rewarded me according to my righteousness;
(AE)According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.
22 (AF)For I have kept the ways of Yahweh,
And have not wickedly departed from my God.
23 (AG)For all His [k]judgments were before me,
And as for His statutes, I did not depart from [l]them.
24 (AH)I was also [m]blameless toward Him,
And I kept myself from my iniquity.
25 (AI)Therefore Yahweh has recompensed me according to my righteousness,
According to my cleanness before His eyes.
26 (AJ)With the [n]kind You show Yourself [o]kind,
With the [p]blameless You show Yourself [q]blameless;
27 (AK)With the pure You show Yourself pure,
(AL)And with the crooked You show Yourself [r]astute.
28 (AM)And You save an afflicted people;
(AN)But Your eyes are on the haughty whom You bring down.
29 (AO)For You are my lamp, O Yahweh;
And Yahweh illumines my darkness.
30 (AP)For by You I can [s]run upon a troop;
By my God I can leap over a wall.
31 (AQ)As for God, His way is [t]blameless;
(AR)The word of Yahweh is [u]tried;
(AS)He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
32 (AT)For who is God, but Yahweh?
(AU)And who is a rock, but our God?
33 (AV)God is my strong fortress;
And He [v]sets the [w]blameless in [x]His way.
34 (AW)He makes [y]my feet like hinds’ feet,
(AX)And sets me on my high places.
35 (AY)He trains my hands for battle,
(AZ)So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
36 You have also given me (BA)the shield of Your salvation,
And Your answer to me makes me great.
37 (BB)You enlarge my steps under me,
And my ankles have not given way.
38 I pursued my enemies and (BC)destroyed them,
And I did not turn back until they were consumed.
39 And I have consumed them and crushed them, so that they did not rise;
And (BD)they fell under my feet.
40 For You have girded me with strength for battle;
You have [z]subdued under me (BE)those who rose up against me.
41 [aa]You have also (BF)made my enemies turn their backs to me,
And I [ab]destroyed those who hated me.
42 (BG)They looked, but there was none to save;
(BH)Even to Yahweh, but He did not answer them.
43 (BI)Then I beat them fine as the dust of the earth;
(BJ)I pulverized and stamped them as the mire of the streets.
44 (BK)You have also delivered me from the contentions of my people;
(BL)You have kept me as head of the nations;
(BM)A people whom I have not known serve me.
45 (BN)Foreigners cower before me;
As soon as they hear, they obey me.
46 Foreigners fade away,
(BO)And [ac]come trembling out of their [ad]fortresses.
47 Yahweh lives, and blessed be my rock;
And let [ae](BP)God, the rock of my salvation, be lifted high,
48 (BQ)The God who executes vengeance for me,
(BR)And brings down peoples under me,
49 Who also brings me out from my enemies;
You even lift me above (BS)those who rise up against me;
(BT)You rescue me from the violent man.
50 (BU)Therefore I will give thanks to You, O Yahweh, among the nations,
And I will sing praises to Your name.
51 (BV)He [af]gives great salvation to His king,
And (BW)shows lovingkindness to His anointed,
(BX)To David and his seed forever.”
Paul Accepted by the Apostles
2 Then after fourteen years I (A)went up again to Jerusalem with (B)Barnabas, taking (C)Titus along also. 2 And I went up [a]because of a (D)revelation, and I laid out to them the (E)gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but I did so in private to those who were of reputation, lest somehow I might be (F)running, or had run, in vain. 3 But not even (G)Titus, who was with me, though he was a Greek, was (H)compelled to be circumcised. 4 But this was because of the (I)false brothers secretly brought in, who (J)had sneaked in to spy out our (K)freedom which we have in Christ Jesus, in order to (L)enslave us. 5 But we did not yield in subjection to them for even [b]a moment, so that (M)the truth of the gospel would remain with you. 6 But from those who [c]were of high (N)reputation (what they were makes no difference to me; (O)God [d]shows no partiality)—well, those who were of reputation contributed nothing to me. 7 But on the contrary, seeing that I had been (P)entrusted with the (Q)gospel [e]to the uncircumcised, just as (R)Peter had been [f]to the circumcised 8 (for He who worked in Peter unto his (S)apostleship [g]to the circumcised worked in me also unto the Gentiles), 9 and recognizing (T)the grace that had been given to me, (U)James and (V)Cephas and [h]John, who were (W)reputed to be (X)pillars, gave to me and (Y)Barnabas the (Z)right [i]hand of fellowship, so that we might (AA)go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised. 10 Only they asked us to remember the poor—(AB)the very thing I also was eager to do.
Paul Opposes Peter (Cephas)
11 But when (AC)Cephas came to (AD)Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he [j]stood condemned. 12 For prior to the coming of certain men from (AE)James, he used to (AF)eat with the Gentiles, but when they came, he began to shrink back and separate himself, (AG)fearing [k]the party of the circumcision. 13 And the rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, with the result that even (AH)Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that they (AI)were not [l]straightforward about (AJ)the truth of the gospel, I said to (AK)Cephas before everyone, “If you, being a Jew, (AL)live like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?[m]
15 “We are (AM)Jews by nature and not (AN)sinners from among the Gentiles; 16 nevertheless [n]knowing that (AO)a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by (AP)faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since (AQ)by the works of [o]the Law no [p]flesh will be justified. 17 But if, while seeking to be justified in Christ, we ourselves have also been found (AR)sinners, is Christ then a minister of sin? (AS)May it never be! 18 For if I rebuild what I have once destroyed, I (AT)prove myself to be a transgressor. 19 For through [q]the Law I (AU)died to [r]the Law, so that I might live to God. 20 I have been (AV)crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but (AW)Christ lives in me. And the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in (AX)the Son of God, who (AY)loved me and (AZ)gave Himself up for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for (BA)if righteousness comes through [s]the Law, then Christ died needlessly.”
Prophesy Against Egypt
29 In the (A)tenth year, in the tenth month, on the twelfth of the month, the word of Yahweh came to me saying, 2 “Son of man, set your face against (B)Pharaoh king of Egypt and prophesy against him and against all (C)Egypt. 3 Speak and say, ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh,
“Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt,
The great [a](D)monster that lies in the midst of his canals of the Nile,
That (E)has said, ‘My Nile is mine, and I myself have made it.’
4 I will put (F)hooks in your jaws
And make the fish of your canals of the Nile cling to your scales.
And I will bring you up out of the midst of your canals of the Nile,
And all the fish of your canals of the Nile will cling to your scales.
5 I will (G)abandon you to the wilderness, you and all the fish of your canals of the Nile;
You will fall on the [b]open field; you will not be brought together or [c](H)gathered.
I have given you for (I)food to the beasts of the earth and to the birds of the sky.
6 Then all the inhabitants of Egypt will know that I am Yahweh
Because they have been only a (J)staff made of reed to the house of Israel.
7 When they seized you with the hand,
You (K)tore and split open all their [d]shoulders;
And when they leaned on you,
You broke and made all their loins [e]quake.”
8 ‘Therefore thus says Lord Yahweh, “Behold, I will (L)bring upon you a sword, and I will cut off from you man and beast. 9 The (M)land of Egypt will become a desolation and waste. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.
Because [f]you (N)said, ‘The Nile is mine, and I have made it,’ 10 therefore, behold, I am (O)against you and against your canals of the Nile, and I will make the land of Egypt an utter waste and desolation, from Migdol to Syene and even to the border of [g]Ethiopia. 11 A man’s foot will (P)not pass through it, and the foot of a beast will not pass through it, and it will not be inhabited for forty years. 12 So I will make the land of Egypt a desolation in the (Q)midst of desolated lands. And her cities, in the midst of cities that are laid waste, will be desolate forty years; and I will (R)scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them among the lands.”
13 ‘For thus says Lord Yahweh, “At the end of forty years I will (S)gather the Egyptians from the peoples [h]among whom they were scattered. 14 I will return the fortunes of Egypt and make them return to the land of (T)Pathros, to the land of their origin, and there they will be a lowly kingdom. 15 It will be the (U)lowest of the kingdoms, and it will never again lift itself up above the nations. And I will make them so small that they will not (V)have dominion over the nations. 16 And it will never again be the (W)security of the house of Israel, (X)bringing to remembrance the iniquity of their having turned to go after Egypt. Then they will know that I am Lord Yahweh.”’”
17 Now in the (Y)twenty-seventh year, in the first month, on the first of the month, the word of Yahweh came to me saying, 18 “Son of man, (Z)Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made his military force [i]labor hard against Tyre; every head was made (AA)bald, and every shoulder was rubbed bare. But he and his military force had no wages from Tyre for the [j]labor that he had [k]labored against it.” 19 Therefore thus says Lord Yahweh, “Behold, I (AB)will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. And he will carry off her [l](AC)abundance and capture her spoil and seize her plunder; and it will be wages for his military force. 20 I have given him the land of Egypt for his work which he [m](AD)labored because they acted for Me,” declares Lord Yahweh.
21 “On that day I will make a (AE)horn sprout for the house of Israel, and I will [n](AF)open your mouth in their midst. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.”
That the Generation to Come Might Know
A [a]Maskil of Asaph.
78 (A)Give ear, O my people, to my [b]instruction;
(B)Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
2 I will (C)open my mouth in a parable;
I will pour forth (D)dark sayings of old,
3 Which we have heard and known,
And (E)our fathers have recounted to us.
4 We will (F)not conceal them from their children,
But (G)recount to the generation to come the praises of Yahweh,
And His strength and His (H)wondrous deeds that He has done.
5 For He established a (I)testimony in Jacob
And set a (J)law in Israel,
Which He (K)commanded our fathers
That they should [c](L)teach them to their children,
6 (M)That the generation to come might know, even (N)the children yet to be born,
That they may arise and (O)recount them to their children,
7 That they should set their confidence in God
And (P)not forget the deeds of God,
But (Q)observe His commandments,
8 And (R)not be like their fathers,
A (S)stubborn and rebellious generation,
A generation that (T)did not [d]prepare its heart
And whose spirit was not (U)faithful to God.
9 The sons of Ephraim [e]were (V)archers equipped with bows,
Yet (W)they turned back in the day of battle.
10 They (X)did not keep the covenant of God
And refused to (Y)walk in His law;
11 So they (Z)forgot His acts
And His [f]wondrous deeds that He had shown them.
12 (AA)He did wonders before their fathers
In the land of Egypt, in the (AB)field of Zoan.
13 He (AC)split the sea and caused them to pass through,
And He made the waters stand (AD)up like a heap.
14 Then He led them with the cloud by (AE)day
And all the night with a (AF)light of fire.
15 He was (AG)splitting the rocks in the wilderness
And so gave them abundant drink like the ocean depths.
16 He (AH)brought forth streams also from the cliff face
And caused waters to run down like rivers.
17 Yet they still continued to sin against Him,
To (AI)rebel against the Most High in the desert.
18 And in their heart they (AJ)put God to the test
By asking for (AK)food according to their desire.
19 Then they spoke against God;
They said, “(AL)Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?
20 Behold, He (AM)struck the rock so that waters gushed out,
And streams were overflowing;
Can He give bread also?
Will He prepare [g](AN)meat for His people?”
21 Therefore Yahweh heard and [h]was (AO)full of wrath;
And a fire was kindled against Jacob
And anger also mounted against Israel,
22 Because they (AP)did not believe in God
And did not trust in His salvation.
23 Yet He commanded the skies above
And (AQ)opened the doors of heaven;
24 He (AR)rained down manna upon them to eat
And gave them (AS)grain from heaven.
25 Man ate the bread of [i]angels;
He sent them provision (AT)to satisfy.
26 He (AU)led forth the east wind in the heavens
And by His strength He guided the south wind.
27 Then He rained [j]meat upon them like the dust,
Even (AV)winged fowl like the sand of the seas,
28 He caused them to fall in the midst of His camp,
All around His dwelling places.
29 So they (AW)ate and were very satisfied,
And their desire He brought to them.
30 [k]Before they had satisfied their desire,
(AX)While their food was in their mouths,
31 The (AY)anger of God rose against them
And killed [l]some of their (AZ)stoutest ones,
And [m]subdued the choice men of Israel.
32 In spite of all this they (BA)still sinned
And (BB)did not believe in His wondrous deeds.
33 So He brought (BC)their days to an end in [n]futility
And their years in sudden terror.
34 When He killed them, then they (BD)sought Him,
And returned and sought (BE)earnestly for God;
35 And they remembered that God was their (BF)rock,
And the Most High God their (BG)Redeemer.
36 But they (BH)deceived Him with their mouth
And (BI)lied to Him with their tongue.
37 For their heart was not (BJ)prepared to remain with Him,
Nor were they faithful in His covenant.
