²¹ Now behold, you ^[a](A)trust in the staff of this crushed reed, even on Egypt; on which if a man leans, it will go into his ^[b]hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.

¹⁵ But he ^(A)rebelled against him by sending his messengers to Egypt that they might give him horses and many ^[a]troops. Will he succeed? Will he who does such things ^(B)escape? Can he indeed break the covenant and escape? ¹⁶ As I live,’ declares Lord Yahweh, ‘Surely in the ^[b]country of the king who made him king, whose oath he ^(C)despised and whose covenant he broke, ^[c](D)in Babylon he shall die. ^17 (E)And Pharaoh with his mighty military force and great assembly will not ^[d]help him in the war, when they cast up ramps and build siege walls to cut off many lives.
