Chronological
Send Out Your Light and Your Truth
43 (A)Give justice to me, O God, and (B)plead my case against an unholy nation;
[a]Oh protect me from (C)the deceitful and unrighteous man!
2 For You are the (D)God of my strength; why have You (E)rejected me?
Why do I go (F)mourning [b]because of the oppression of the enemy?
3 Oh send out Your (G)light and Your truth, let them lead me;
Let them bring me to Your (H)holy mountain
And to Your (I)dwelling places.
4 Then I will go to (J)the altar of God,
To God [c]my exceeding (K)joy;
And upon the (L)lyre I shall praise You, O God, my God.
5 (M)Why are you [d]in despair, O my soul?
And why are you disturbed within me?
Wait for God, for I shall still praise Him,
The salvation of my presence and my God.
Rise Up, Be Our Help
For the choir director. Of the sons of Korah. A [e]Maskil.
44 O God, we have heard with our ears,
Our (N)fathers have recounted to us
The (O)work that You did in their days,
In the (P)days of old.
2 You with Your own hand (Q)dispossessed the nations;
Then You (R)planted them;
You (S)afflicted the peoples,
Then You (T)cast them out.
3 For by their own sword they (U)did not possess the land,
And their own arm did not save them,
But Your right hand and Your (V)arm and the (W)light of Your presence,
For You (X)favored them.
4 You are (Y)my King, O God;
(Z)Command [f]salvation for Jacob.
5 Through You we will (AA)push back our adversaries;
Through Your name we will (AB)tread down those who rise up against us.
6 For I will (AC)not trust in my bow,
And my sword will not save me.
7 But You (AD)have saved us from our adversaries,
And You have (AE)put to shame those who hate us.
8 In God we have (AF)boasted all day long,
And we will (AG)give thanks to Your name forever. [g]Selah.
9 Yet You (AH)have rejected us and brought us to (AI)dishonor,
And (AJ)do not go out with our armies.
10 You cause us to (AK)turn back from the adversary;
And those who hate us (AL)have plundered us for themselves.
11 You give us as (AM)sheep [h]to be eaten
And have (AN)scattered us among the nations.
12 You (AO)sell Your people [i]for no amount,
And You have not [j]profited from their price.
13 You make us a (AP)reproach to our neighbors,
A mockery and a (AQ)derision to those around us.
14 You make us (AR)a byword among the nations,
A [k](AS)laughingstock among the peoples.
15 All day long my dishonor is before me
And [l]the (AT)shame of my face has covered me,
16 Because of the voice of him who (AU)reproaches and reviles,
Because of the presence of the (AV)enemy and the avenger.
17 All this has come upon us, but we have (AW)not forgotten You,
And we have not (AX)dealt falsely with Your covenant.
18 Our heart has not (AY)turned back,
Nor have our steps (AZ)deviated from Your path,
19 Yet You have (BA)crushed us in a place of (BB)jackals
And covered us with (BC)the shadow of death.
20 If we had (BD)forgotten the name of our God
Or spread our [m]hands to (BE)a strange god,
21 Would not God (BF)find this out?
For He knows the secrets of the heart.
22 But (BG)for Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are counted as (BH)sheep for the slaughter.
23 (BI)Arouse Yourself, why (BJ)do You sleep, O Lord?
Awake, (BK)do not reject us forever.
24 Why do You (BL)hide Your face
And (BM)forget our affliction and our oppression?
25 For our (BN)soul has sunk down into the dust;
Our [n]body cleaves to the earth.
26 (BO)Rise up, be our help,
And (BP)redeem us for the sake of Your lovingkindness.
Your Throne, O God, Is Forever
For the choir director. According to [o]Shoshannim. Of the sons of Korah. A [p]Maskil. A Song of Love.
45 My heart [q]overflows with a good theme;
I [r]address my [s]verses to the [t]King;
My tongue is the pen of (BQ)a skillful scribe.
2 You are fairer than the sons of men;
(BR)Grace is poured [u]upon Your lips;
Therefore God has (BS)blessed You forever.
3 Gird (BT)Your sword on Your thigh, O [v](BU)Mighty One,
In Your splendor and Your majesty!
4 And in Your majesty ride on victoriously,
For the cause of truth and (BV)meekness and righteousness;
Let Your (BW)right hand teach You [w]awesome things.
5 Your (BX)arrows are sharp;
The (BY)peoples fall under You;
Your arrows are (BZ)in the heart of the King’s enemies.
6 (CA)Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;
A scepter of (CB)uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom.
7 You have (CC)loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
Therefore God, Your God, has (CD)anointed You
With the oil of joy above Your companions.
8 All Your garments are fragrant with (CE)myrrh and aloes and cassia;
Out of ivory palaces (CF)stringed instruments have made You glad.
9 Kings’ daughters are among (CG)Your noble ladies;
At Your (CH)right hand stands the queen in (CI)gold from Ophir.
10 Listen, O daughter, give attention and incline your ear:
(CJ)Forget your people and your father’s house;
11 Then the King will desire your beauty.
Because He is your (CK)Lord, (CL)bow down to Him.
12 The daughter of (CM)Tyre will come with a present;
The (CN)rich among the people will seek your favor.
13 The King’s daughter is all glorious within her chamber;
Her clothing is (CO)interwoven with gold.
14 She will be (CP)led to the King (CQ)in embroidered work;
The (CR)virgins, her companions who follow her,
Will be brought to You.
15 They will be led forth with gladness and rejoicing;
They will enter into the King’s palace.
Why Should I Fear in Days of Evil?
For the choir director. Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm.
49 (A)Hear this, all peoples;
Give ear, all (B)inhabitants of the world,
2 Both [a](C)low and [b]high,
Rich and poor together.
3 My mouth will (D)speak wisdom,
And the meditation of my heart will be (E)discernment.
4 I will incline my ear to (F)a proverb;
(G)I will [c]express my (H)riddle on the harp.
5 Why should I (I)fear in days of evil,
When the iniquity of my [d]supplanters surrounds me,
6 Even those who (J)trust in their wealth
And boast in the abundance of their riches?
7 Truly, no man can (K)redeem his brother;
He cannot give to God a (L)ransom for him—
8 For (M)the redemption price for their soul is costly,
And it ceases forever—
9 That he should (N)live on eternally,
That he should not (O)see [e]corruption.
10 For he sees that even (P)wise men die;
The [f](Q)fool and the senseless alike perish
And (R)leave their wealth to others.
11 Their [g](S)inner thought is that their houses (T)are forever
And their dwelling places [h]from generation to generation;
They have (U)called their lands after their own names.
12 But (V)man in his honor will not endure;
He is like the animals that [i]perish.
13 This is the (W)way of those who are foolish,
And of those after them who (X)are pleased [j]with their words. [k]Selah.
14 As sheep they are appointed (Y)for Sheol;
Death will shepherd them;
And the (Z)upright shall have dominion over them in the morning,
And their form shall be for Sheol (AA)to consume,
Far away from his habitation.
15 But God will (AB)redeem my soul from the [l]power of Sheol,
For (AC)He will receive me. Selah.
16 Do not be afraid (AD)when a man becomes rich,
When the [m]glory of his house increases;
17 For when he dies he will not (AE)take any of it;
His [n]glory will not descend after him.
18 For while he lives he (AF)blesses his soul—
And men will praise you when you do well for yourself—
19 But his soul shall (AG)go to the generation of his fathers;
They will eternally not see (AH)light.
20 (AI)Man in his honor, but who does not understand,
Is (AJ)like the animals that [o]perish.
Blessed Is the Man Who Trusts in You
For the choir director. According to the [a]Gittith. Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm.
84 How lovely are Your (A)dwelling places,
O Yahweh of hosts!
2 My (B)soul has longed and even [b]fainted for the courts of Yahweh;
My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the (C)living God.
3 Even the bird has found a home,
And the swallow a nest for herself, where she sets her young,
At Your (D)altars, O Yahweh of hosts,
(E)My King and my God.
4 How (F)blessed are those who dwell in Your house!
They are (G)ever praising You. [c]Selah.
5 How blessed is the man whose (H)strength is in You,
In [d]whose heart are the (I)highways to Zion!
6 Passing through the valley of [e]Baca they make it a [f]spring;
The (J)early rain also wraps it up with blessings.
7 They (K)go from strength to strength,
[g]Each one of them (L)appears before God in Zion.
8 O (M)Yahweh God of hosts, hear my prayer;
Give ear, O (N)God of Jacob! Selah.
9 See our (O)shield, O God,
And look upon the face of (P)Your anointed.
10 For (Q)better is a day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere.
I would choose to stand at the threshold of the house of my God
Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For Yahweh God is (R)a sun and (S)shield;
Yahweh gives grace and (T)glory;
(U)No good thing does He withhold [h]from those who walk blamelessly.
12 O Yahweh of hosts,
How (V)blessed is the man who trusts in You!
Turn Us Back, O God
For the choir director. Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm.
85 O Yahweh, You showed (W)favor to Your land;
You [i](X)returned the fortunes of Jacob.
2 You (Y)forgave the iniquity of Your people;
You (Z)covered all their sin. [j]Selah.
3 You (AA)withdrew all Your fury;
You (AB)turned back from Your burning anger.
4 (AC)Turn us back, O God of our salvation,
And (AD)cause Your vexation toward us to cease.
5 Will (AE)You be angry with us forever?
Will You prolong Your anger from generation to generation?
6 Will You not Yourself (AF)return to [k]revive us,
That Your people may (AG)be glad in You?
7 Show us, O Yahweh, Your lovingkindness,
And (AH)give us Your salvation.
8 Let me hear what the God, Yahweh, will speak;
For He will (AI)speak peace to His people, [l]to His holy ones;
But let them not (AJ)turn back to [m]folly.
9 Surely (AK)His salvation is near to those who [n]fear Him,
That (AL)glory may dwell in our land.
10 (AM)Lovingkindness and [o]truth have met together;
(AN)Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
11 [p]Truth (AO)springs up from the earth,
And righteousness looks down from heaven.
12 Indeed, (AP)Yahweh will give what is good,
And our (AQ)land will yield its produce.
13 (AR)Righteousness will go before Him
And will establish the way of His steps.
Yahweh Loves the Gates of Zion
Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm. A Song.
87 His (A)foundation is in the holy mountains.
2 Yahweh (B)loves the gates of Zion
More than all the dwelling places of Jacob.
3 (C)Glorious things are spoken of you,
O (D)city of God. [a]Selah.
4 “I shall mention [b](E)Rahab and Babylon among those who know Me;
Behold, Philistia and (F)Tyre with [c](G)Ethiopia:
‘This one was born there.’”
5 But of Zion it shall be said, “This one and that one were born in her”;
And the Most High Himself will (H)establish her.
6 Yahweh will count when He (I)registers the peoples,
“This one was born there.” Selah.
7 And (J)singers, just like the (K)dancers, will all say,
“All my (L)springs are in you.”
