The Woman, the Child, and the Dragon

12 And a great (A)sign appeared (B)in heaven: (C)a woman (D)clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. And she was with child, and she *(E)cried out, being in labor and in pain to give birth. Then (F)another sign appeared in heaven: and behold, a great red (G)dragon having (H)seven heads and (I)ten horns, and on his heads were (J)seven diadems. And his tail *swept away a (K)third of the stars of heaven and (L)threw them to the earth. And the (M)dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she gave birth (N)he might devour her child. And (O)she gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to [a](P)rule all the [b]nations with a rod of iron; and her child was (Q)caught up to God and to His throne. Then the woman fled into the wilderness where she *had a place prepared by God, so that there [c]she would be nourished for (R)1,260 days.

War in Heaven

And there was war in heaven, (S)Michael and his angels waging war with the (T)dragon. The dragon and (U)his angels waged war, and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. And the great (V)dragon was thrown down, the (W)serpent of old who is called the devil and (X)Satan, who (Y)deceives the whole [d]world. He was (Z)thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. 10 Then I heard (AA)a loud voice in heaven, saying,

“Now the (AB)salvation, and the power, and the (AC)kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the (AD)accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night. 11 And they (AE)overcame him because of (AF)the blood of the Lamb and because of (AG)the word of their witness, and they (AH)did not love their life even to death. 12 For this reason, (AI)rejoice, O heavens and (AJ)you who [e]dwell in them. (AK)Woe to the earth and the sea, because (AL)the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has only (AM)a short time.”

13 And when the (AN)dragon saw that he was thrown down to the earth, he persecuted (AO)the woman who gave birth to the male child. 14 But the (AP)two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, so that she could fly (AQ)into the wilderness to her place, where she *was nourished for (AR)a time and times and half a time, from the [f]presence of the serpent. 15 And the (AS)serpent [g]poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, so that he might cause her to be swept away with the flood. 16 [h]But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and drank up the river which the dragon [i]poured out of his mouth. 17 So the dragon was enraged with the woman and went off to (AT)make war with the rest of her (AU)seed, who (AV)keep the commandments of God and (AW)have the witness of Jesus.

The Beast from the Sea

13 And the [j]dragon stood on the sand of the [k]seashore.

Then I saw a (AX)beast coming up out of the sea, having (AY)ten horns and (AZ)seven heads, and on his horns were (BA)ten diadems, and on his heads were (BB)blasphemous names. And the beast which I saw was (BC)like a leopard, and his feet were like those of (BD)a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of (BE)a lion. And the (BF)dragon gave him his power and his (BG)throne and great authority. And I saw one of his heads as if it had been [l]slain fatally, and his (BH)fatal wound was healed. And the whole earth (BI)marveled and followed after the beast. And they worshiped the (BJ)dragon because he (BK)gave his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, “(BL)Who is like the beast, and who is able to wage war with him?” And there was given to him a mouth (BM)speaking [m]great boasts and blasphemies, and authority to act for (BN)forty-two months was given to him. And he opened his mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme His name and His tabernacle, that is, (BO)those who [n]dwell in heaven.

And it was also given to him to (BP)make war with the saints and to overcome them, and authority over (BQ)every tribe and people and tongue and nation was given to him. And all who (BR)dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone (BS)whose name has not been [o]written (BT)from the foundation of the world in the (BU)book of life of (BV)the Lamb who has been slain. (BW)If anyone has an ear, let him hear. 10 (BX)If anyone [p]is destined for captivity, to captivity he goes; (BY)if anyone kills with the sword, with the sword he must be killed. Here is (BZ)the perseverance and the faith of the saints.

The Beast from the Earth

11 Then (CA)I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had (CB)two horns like a lamb and he was speaking as a (CC)dragon. 12 And he (CD)exercises all the authority of the first beast [q](CE)in his presence. And he makes (CF)the earth and those who dwell in it to (CG)worship the first beast, whose (CH)fatal wound was healed. 13 And he (CI)does great signs, so that he even makes (CJ)fire come down out of heaven to the earth in the presence of men. 14 And he (CK)deceives (CL)those who dwell on the earth because of (CM)the signs which were given to him to do [r](CN)in the presence of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who *had the (CO)wound of the sword and has come to life. 15 And it was given to him to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast would even [s]speak and cause (CP)as many as do not (CQ)worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 And he causes all, (CR)the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, that they [t]be given a (CS)mark on their right hand or on their forehead, 17 and that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the (CT)mark, either (CU)the name of the beast or (CV)the number of his name. 18 (CW)Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number (CX)of man; and his number is [u]666.

The Lamb and the 144,000

14 Then I looked, and behold, (CY)the Lamb was standing on (CZ)Mount Zion, and with Him (DA)144,000, having (DB)His name and the (DC)name of His Father written (DD)on their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, like (DE)the sound of many waters and like the (DF)sound of loud thunder, and the voice which I heard was like the sound of (DG)harpists playing on their harps. And they *[v]sang (DH)a new song before the throne and before the (DI)four living creatures and the (DJ)elders. And (DK)no one could learn that song except the (DL)144,000 who had been (DM)purchased from the earth. (DN)These are the ones who are not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who (DO)follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These have been (DP)purchased from among men (DQ)as first fruits to God and to the Lamb. And (DR)no lie was found in their mouth; they are (DS)blameless.

The Messages of the Three Angels

Then I saw another angel flying in (DT)midheaven, having (DU)an eternal gospel to proclaim to (DV)those who [w]inhabit the earth, and to (DW)every nation and tribe and tongue and people. And he said with a loud voice, “(DX)Fear God, and (DY)give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come; worship Him who (DZ)made the heaven and the earth and sea and (EA)springs of waters.”

And another angel, a second one, followed, saying, “[x](EB)Fallen, fallen is (EC)Babylon the great, she who has (ED)made all the nations drink of the (EE)wine of the wrath of her [y]sexual immorality.”

Then another angel, a third one, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone (EF)worships the beast and his (EG)image, and receives a (EH)mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 and he also will drink of the (EI)wine of the wrath of God, which is mixed [z]in full strength (EJ)in the cup of His rage, and he will be tormented with (EK)fire and [aa]brimstone in the presence of the (EL)holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the (EM)smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; (EN)they have no rest day and night, those who (EO)worship the beast and his (EP)image, and [ab]whoever receives the (EQ)mark of his name.” 12 Here is (ER)the perseverance of the saints who (ES)keep the commandments of God and [ac](ET)their faith in Jesus.

13 And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, “Write, ‘(EU)Blessed are the dead who (EV)die in the Lord from now on!’” “Yes,” (EW)says the Spirit, “so that they may (EX)rest from their labors, for their (EY)deeds follow with them.”

Reaping the Earth’s Harvest

14 Then I looked, and behold, a (EZ)white cloud, and sitting on the cloud was one (FA)like [ad]a son of man, having a golden (FB)crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand. 15 And another angel (FC)came out of the sanctuary, crying out with a loud voice to Him who sits on the cloud, “[ae](FD)Put in Your sickle and reap, for the hour to reap has come, because the (FE)harvest of the earth [af]is ripe.” 16 Then He who sits on the cloud [ag]swung His sickle over the earth, and the earth was reaped.

17 And another angel (FF)came out of the sanctuary which is in heaven, and he also had a sharp sickle. 18 Then another angel, (FG)the one who has authority over fire, came out from (FH)the altar; and he called with a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, “[ah](FI)Put in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters [ai]from the vine of the earth, (FJ)because her grapes are ripe.” 19 So the angel [aj]swung his sickle to the earth and gathered the clusters from the vine of the earth, and threw them into (FK)the great wine press of the wrath of God. 20 And (FL)the wine press was trodden (FM)outside the city, and (FN)blood came out from the wine press, up to the horses’ bridles, [ak]for a distance of [al]1,600 stadia.

Seven Angels, Seven Plagues

15 Then I saw (FO)another sign in heaven, great and marvelous, (FP)seven angels who have (FQ)seven plagues, which are (FR)the last, because in them the wrath of God is finished.

Then I saw something like a (FS)sea of glass mixed with fire, and those who have (FT)overcome [am]the (FU)beast and (FV)his image and the (FW)number of his name, standing on the (FX)sea of glass, having (FY)harps of God. And they *sang the (FZ)song of Moses, (GA)the slave of God, and the (GB)song of the Lamb, saying,

(GC)Great and marvelous are Your works,
(GD)O [an]Lord God, the Almighty;
Righteous and true are Your ways,
(GE)King of the [ao]nations!
(GF)Who will not fear, O [ap]Lord, and glorify Your name?
For You alone are holy;
For (GG)all the nations will come and worship before You,
For Your [aq](GH)righteous acts have been revealed.”

And after these things I looked, and (GI)the sanctuary of the (GJ)tabernacle of testimony in heaven was opened, and the (GK)seven angels who have the seven plagues (GL)came out of the sanctuary, clothed in [ar]linen, clean and bright, and (GM)girded around their chests with golden sashes. Then one of the (GN)four living creatures gave to the (GO)seven angels seven (GP)golden bowls full of the (GQ)wrath of God, who (GR)lives forever and ever. And the sanctuary was filled with (GS)smoke from the glory of God and from His power; and no one was able to enter the sanctuary until the seven plagues of the seven angels were finished.

The Seven Bowls of God’s Wrath

16 Then I heard a loud voice from (GT)the sanctuary, saying to the (GU)seven angels, “Go and (GV)pour out [as]on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God.”

So the first angel went and poured out his bowl [at](GW)on the earth; and it became a loathsome and malignant (GX)sore on the [au]people (GY)who have the mark of the beast and who worship his image.

And the second angel poured out his bowl (GZ)into the sea, and it became blood like that of a dead man, and every living [av]thing in the sea died.

Then the third angel poured out his bowl into the (HA)rivers and the springs of waters, and they (HB)became blood. And I heard the angel of the waters saying, “(HC)Righteous are You, (HD)who is and who was, O (HE)Holy One, because You (HF)judged these things; for they poured out (HG)the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them (HH)blood to drink. They [aw]deserve it.” And I heard (HI)the altar saying, “Yes, O [ax](HJ)Lord God, the Almighty, (HK)true and righteous are Your judgments.”

And the fourth angel poured out his bowl upon (HL)the sun, (HM)and it was given to it to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with [ay]fierce heat, and they (HN)blasphemed the name of God who has the authority over these plagues, and they (HO)did not repent so as to (HP)give Him glory.

10 Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the (HQ)throne of the beast, and his kingdom became (HR)darkened; and they gnawed their tongues because of pain, 11 and they (HS)blasphemed the (HT)God of heaven because of their pains and their (HU)sores, and they (HV)did not repent of their deeds.

12 And the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the (HW)great river, the Euphrates, and (HX)its water was dried up, so that (HY)the way would be prepared for the kings (HZ)from the [az]east. 13 Then I saw coming out of the mouth of the (IA)dragon and out of the mouth of the (IB)beast and out of the mouth of the (IC)false prophet, three (ID)unclean spirits like (IE)frogs; 14 for they are (IF)spirits of demons, (IG)doing signs, which go out to the kings of the (IH)whole [ba]world, to (II)gather them together for the war of the (IJ)great day of God, the Almighty. 15 (“Behold, (IK)I am coming like a thief. (IL)Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his garments, (IM)so that he will not walk about naked and men will not see his shame.”) 16 And they (IN)gathered them together to the place which (IO)in Hebrew is called [bb](IP)Har-Magedon.

The Seventh Bowl

17 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl upon (IQ)the air, and a (IR)loud voice came out of the (IS)sanctuary from the throne, saying, “(IT)It is done.” 18 And there were flashes of (IU)lightning and sounds and peals of thunder; and there was (IV)a great earthquake, (IW)such as there had not been since man came to be upon the earth, so great an earthquake was it, and so mighty. 19 (IX)And the great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the [bc]nations fell. (IY)Babylon the great was (IZ)remembered before God, to give her (JA)the cup of the wine of the wrath of His rage. 20 And (JB)every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21 And (JC)huge [bd]hailstones, about one [be]talent each, *came down from heaven upon men; and men (JD)blasphemed God because of the (JE)plague of the hail, because its plague *was extremely [bf]severe.

The Woman and the Beast

17 (JF)Then one of the (JG)seven angels who have the (JH)seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, “Come here, I will show you (JI)the judgment of the (JJ)great harlot who (JK)sits on many waters, with whom (JL)the kings of the earth committed [bg]sexual immorality, and (JM)those who dwell on the earth were (JN)made drunk with the wine of her [bh]sexual immorality.” And (JO)he carried me away [bi](JP)in the Spirit (JQ)into a wilderness; then I saw a woman sitting on a (JR)scarlet beast, full of (JS)blasphemous names, having (JT)seven heads and ten horns. And the woman (JU)was clothed in purple and scarlet, and [bj]adorned with gold and precious [bk]stones and pearls, having in her hand (JV)a gold cup full of abominations and of the unclean things of her [bl]sexual immorality, and on her forehead a name was written, a (JW)mystery, “(JX)BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF (JY)THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” Then I saw the woman drunk with (JZ)the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus. When I saw her, I wondered [bm]greatly. And the angel said to me, “Why [bn]do you wonder? I will tell you the (KA)mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the (KB)seven heads and the ten horns.

(KC)The beast that you saw (KD)was, and is not, and is about to (KE)come up out of the (KF)abyss and [bo](KG)go to destruction. And (KH)those who dwell on the earth, (KI)whose name has not been written in the book of life (KJ)from the foundation of the world, will (KK)wonder when they see the beast, that he was and is not and will come. (KL)Here is the mind which has wisdom. The (KM)seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits, 10 and they are seven (KN)kings; five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; and when he comes, he must remain a little while. 11 And the beast which (KO)was and is not, is himself also an eighth and is one of the seven, and he (KP)goes to destruction. 12 And the (KQ)ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they receive authority as kings with the beast (KR)for one hour. 13 These have (KS)one [bp]purpose, and they give their power and authority to the beast. 14 These will wage (KT)war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will (KU)overcome them, because He is (KV)Lord of lords and (KW)King of kings, and (KX)those who are with Him are the (KY)called and elect and faithful.”

15 And he *said to me, “The (KZ)waters which you saw where the harlot sits, are (LA)peoples and crowds and nations and tongues. 16 And the (LB)ten horns which you saw, and the beast, these will hate the harlot and will (LC)lay waste to her and make her (LD)naked, and will (LE)eat her flesh and will (LF)burn her up with fire. 17 For (LG)God gave it in their hearts to do His [bq]purpose both [br]by (LH)doing their own common purpose and by giving their kingdom to the beast, until the (LI)words of God will be finished. 18 And the woman whom you saw is (LJ)the great city, which has a kingdom over the kings of the earth.”

Fallen Is Babylon

18 After these things I saw another (LK)angel (LL)coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was (LM)illumined with his glory. And he cried out with a mighty voice, saying, “[bs](LN)Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! And she (LO)has become a dwelling place of demons and a [bt]prison of every (LP)unclean spirit, and a [bu]prison of every unclean bird [bv]and a [bw]prison of every unclean and hateful beast. For all the nations [bx]have drunk of the (LQ)wine of the wrath of her sexual immorality, and (LR)the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality with her, and the (LS)merchants of the earth have become rich by the power of her [by](LT)sensuality.”

And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, “(LU)Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues; for her sins have [bz](LV)piled up as high as heaven, and God has (LW)remembered her iniquities. (LX)Pay her back even as she paid, and [ca]give her back double according to her deeds; in the (LY)cup which she has mixed, mix double for her. (LZ)To the degree that she glorified herself and (MA)lived [cb]sensuously, to the same degree give her torment and mourning, for she says in her heart, ‘(MB)I sit as a queen and I am not a widow, and will never see mourning.’ For this reason (MC)in one day her plagues will come, [cc]pestilence and mourning and famine, and she will be (MD)burned up with fire; for the Lord God who judges her (ME)is strong.

“And (MF)the kings of the earth, who committed sexual immorality and (MG)lived [cd]sensuously with her, will (MH)cry and lament over her when they (MI)see the smoke of her burning, 10 (MJ)standing at a distance because of the fear of her torment, saying, ‘(MK)Woe, woe, (ML)the great city, Babylon, the strong city! For in (MM)one hour your judgment has come.’

11 “And the (MN)merchants of the earth (MO)cry and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargo anymore— 12 cargo of (MP)gold and silver and precious [ce]stones and pearls and fine linen and purple and silk and scarlet, and every kind of citron wood and every article of ivory and every article made from precious wood and [cf]bronze and iron and marble, 13 and cinnamon and amomum and incense and perfume and frankincense and wine and olive oil and fine flour and wheat and cattle and sheep, and cargo of horses and carriages and [cg]human beings and [ch](MQ)human lives. 14 And the fruit [ci]you long for has gone from you, and all things that were splendid and shining have passed away from you and men will no longer find them. 15 The (MR)merchants of (MS)these things, who became rich from her, will (MT)stand at a distance because of the fear of her torment, crying and mourning, 16 saying, ‘(MU)Woe, woe, (MV)the great city, she who (MW)was clothed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and [cj]adorned with gold and precious [ck]stones and pearls; 17 for in (MX)one hour such great wealth has been laid (MY)waste!’ And (MZ)every shipmaster and every [cl]passenger and sailor, and as many as make their living by the sea, (NA)stood at a distance, 18 and were (NB)crying out as they (NC)saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘(ND)What is like (NE)the great city?’ 19 And they threw (NF)dust on their heads and were crying out, crying and mourning, saying, ‘(NG)Woe, woe, the great city, in which all who have ships at sea (NH)became rich by her [cm]wealth, for in (NI)one hour she has been laid (NJ)waste!’ 20 (NK)Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and (NL)apostles and prophets, because (NM)God has [cn]pronounced judgment for you against her.”

21 Then [co]a (NN)strong angel (NO)picked up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, “So will Babylon, (NP)the great city, be thrown down with violence, and (NQ)will not be found any longer. 22 And (NR)the sound of harpists and musicians and flute-players and trumpeters will not be heard in you any longer; and no craftsman of any craft will be found in you any longer; and the (NS)sound of a mill will not be heard in you any longer; 23 and the light of a lamp will not shine in you any longer; and the (NT)voice of the bridegroom and bride will not be heard in you any longer; for your (NU)merchants were the great men of the earth, because all the nations were deceived (NV)by your sorcery. 24 And in her was found the (NW)blood of prophets and of saints and of (NX)all who have been slain on the earth.”
