34 1 After David had escaped Achish, according as it is written in 1 Sam. 2:11, whom in this title he calleth Abimelech (which was a general name to all the Kings of the Philistines) he praiseth God for his deliverance, 3 provoking all others by his example to trust in God, to fear and serve him, 7 who defendeth the godly with his Angels, 16 and utterly destroyeth the wicked in their sins.
A Psalm of David, when he changeth his behavior before Abimelech, who drave him away, and he departed.
1 I will [a]always give thanks unto the Lord: his praise shall be in my mouth continually.
2 My soul shall glory in the Lord: the [b]humble shall hear it and be glad.
3 Praise ye the Lord with me, and let us magnify his Name together.
4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me: yea, he delivered me out of all my [c]fear.
5 They [d]shall look unto him, and run to him: and their faces shall not be ashamed, saying,
6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The [e]Angel of the Lord pitched round about them, that fear him, and delivereth them.
8 Taste ye and see, how gracious the Lord is: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
9 Fear the Lord ye his Saints: for nothing wanteth to them that fear him.
10 The [f]lions do lack and suffer hunger, but they which seek the Lord, shall [g]want nothing that is good.
11 Come children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the [h]fear of the Lord.
12 (A)What man is he that desireth life, and loveth long days for to [i]see good?
13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips, that they speak no guile.
14 Eschew evil and do good: seek peace and follow after it.
15 The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.
16 But the [j]face of the Lord is against them that do evil, to cut off their remembrance from the earth.
17 The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth them, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
18 The Lord is near unto them that are of a [k]contrite heart, and will save such as be afflicted in spirit.
19 Great are the troubles of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.
20 [l]He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.
21 But malice shall slay the [m]wicked: and they that hate the righteous, shall perish.
22 The Lord [n]redeemeth the souls of his servants: and none that trust in him, shall perish.
33 1 He exhorteth good men to praise God, for that he hath not only created all things, and by his providence governeth the same, but also is faithful in his promises, 10 he understandeth man’s heart, and scattereth the counsel of the wicked, 16 so that no man can be preserved by any creature or man’s strength: by they, that put their confidence in his mercy, shall be preserved from all adversities.
1 Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous: for it [a]becometh upright men to be thankful.
2 Praise the Lord with harp: sing unto him with viol and [b]instrument of ten strings.
3 Sing unto him a new song: sing cheerfully with a loud voice.
4 For the [c]word of the Lord is righteous, and all his [d]works are faithful.
5 He [e]loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.
6 By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
7 He [f]gathereth the waters of the sea together as upon an heap, and layeth up the depths in his treasures.
8 Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all them that dwell in the world, fear him.
9 For he spake, and it was done: he commanded, and it [g]stood.
10 The Lord breaketh the [h]counsel of the heathen, and bringeth to nought the devices of the people.
11 The counsel of the Lord shall stand forever, and the thoughts of his heart throughout all ages.
12 Blessed is that nation, whose [i]God is the Lord: even the people that he hath chosen for his inheritance.
13 The Lord [j]looketh down from heaven, and beholdeth all the children of men.
14 From the habitation of his dwelling, he beholdeth all them that dwell in the earth.
15 He [k]fashioneth their hearts every one, and understandeth all their works.
16 The [l]King is not saved by the multitude of an host, neither is the mighty man delivered by great strength.
17 A horse is a vain help, and shall not deliver any by his great strength.
18 Behold, [m]the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, and upon them that trust in his mercy,
19 To deliver their souls from death, and to preserve them in famine.
20 [n]Our soul waiteth for the Lord: for he is our help and our shield.
21 Surely our heart shall rejoice in him, because we trusted in his holy Name.
22 Let thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, as we trusted in thee.
12 1 Abram by God’s commandment goeth to Canaan. 3 Christ is promised. 7 Abram buildeth Altars for exercise and declaration of his faith among the infidels. 10 Because of the dearth he goeth into Egypt. 15 Pharaoh taketh his wife, and is punished.
1 For the Lord had said unto Abram, (A)[a]Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house unto [b]the land that I will show thee.
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and will bless thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be a [c]blessing.
3 I will also bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curse thee, and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
4 So Abram departed, even as the Lord spake unto him, and Lot went with him, (and Abram was seventy and five years old, when he departed out of Haran)
5 Then Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they possessed, and the [d]souls that they had gotten in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan, and to the land of Canaan they came.
6 ¶ So Abram [e]passed through the land unto the place of Shechem, and unto the [f]plain of Moreh (and the [g]Canaanite was then in the land)
7 And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land. And there built he [h]an altar unto the Lord, which appeared unto him.
11 1 He declareth in the whole Chapter, that the Fathers, which from the beginning of the world were approved of God, attained salvation no other way than by faith, that the Jews may know that by the same only, they are knit unto the Fathers in an holy union.
1 Now [a]faith is the grounds of things which are hoped for, and the evidence of things which are not seen.
2 [b]For by it our [c]elders were well reported of.
3 (A)[d]Through faith we understand that the world was ordained by the word of God, so that the things which we [e]see, are not made of things which did appear.
4 [f]By faith Abel (B)offered unto God a greater sacrifice than Cain, by (C)the which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: by the which faith also he being dead, yet speaketh.
5 [g]By faith was (D)Enoch translated, that he should not [h]see death: neither was he found: for God had translated him: for before he was translated, he was reported of, that he had pleased God.
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God, must believe that God is, and that he is a [i]rewarder of them that seek him.
7 [j]By faith (E)Noah being warned of God of the things which were as yet not seen, moved with reverence, prepared the Ark to the saving of his household, through the which Ark he condemned the world, and was made heir of the righteousness, which is by faith.
8 [k]By faith (F)Abraham, when he was called, obeyed God, to go out into a place, which he should afterward receive for inheritance, and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
9 By faith he abode in the land of promise, as in a strange country, as one that dwelt in tents with Isaac and Jacob heirs with him of the same promise.
10 For he looked for a city having a [l]foundation, whose builder and maker is God.
11 Through faith (G)Sarah also received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful which had promised.
12 And therefore sprang thereof one, even of one which was [m]dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand of the sea shore which is innumerable.
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am that bread [a]of life: he that cometh to me, shall not hunger, and he that believeth in me, shall never thirst.
36 But I said unto you, that ye also have seen me, and believe not.
37 [b]All that the Father giveth me, shall come to me: and him that cometh to me, I cast not away.
38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine [c]own will, but his will which hath sent me.
39 And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me, I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every man which [d]seeth the Son, and believeth in him, should have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
41 [e]The Jews then murmured at him because he said, I am that bread, which is come down from heaven.
42 And they said, (A)Is not this Jesus that son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how then saith he, I came down from heaven?
48 [a]I am that bread of life.
49 (A)Your fathers did eat Manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50 [b]This is that bread, which cometh down from heaven, that he which eateth of it, should not die.
51 [c]I am that [d]living bread, which came down from heaven: if any man [e]eat of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
