Book of Common Prayer
We Will Boast in the Name of Yahweh
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
20 May Yahweh answer you (A)in the day of distress!
May the (B)name of the (C)God of Jacob set you securely on high!
2 May He send you help (D)from the sanctuary
And (E)uphold you from Zion!
3 May He (F)remember all your meal offerings
And (G)find your burnt offering [a]acceptable! [b]Selah.
4 May He grant you your (H)heart’s desire
And (I)fulfill all your [c]counsel!
5 [d]We will (J)sing for joy over your salvation,
And in the name of our God we will (K)set up our banners.
May Yahweh (L)fulfill all your petitions.
6 Now (M)I know that Yahweh saves His anointed;
He will (N)answer him from His holy heaven
With the [e](O)saving might of His right hand.
7 Some boast in chariots and some in (P)horses,
But (Q)we will [f]boast in the name of Yahweh, our God.
8 They have (R)bowed down and fallen,
But we have (S)risen and stood upright.
9 [g](T)Save, O Yahweh;
May the (U)King answer us in the day we call.
The King Trusts in Yahweh
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
21 O Yahweh, in Your strength the king will (V)be glad,
And in Your [h]salvation how greatly he will rejoice!
2 You have (W)given him his heart’s desire,
And You have not withheld the request of his lips. [i]Selah.
3 For You (X)meet him with the blessings of good things;
You set a (Y)crown of fine gold on his head.
4 He asked life of You,
You (Z)gave it to him,
(AA)Length of days forever and ever.
5 His (AB)glory is great through Your [j]salvation,
(AC)Splendor and majesty You bestow upon him.
6 For You make him [k]most (AD)blessed forever;
You make him joyful (AE)with gladness in Your presence.
7 For the king (AF)trusts in Yahweh,
And through the lovingkindness of the Most High (AG)he will not be shaken.
8 Your hand will (AH)find out all your enemies;
Your right hand will find out those who hate you.
9 You will make them (AI)as a fiery oven in the time of your [l]anger;
Yahweh will (AJ)swallow them up in His wrath,
And (AK)fire will devour them.
10 Their [m]offspring You will destroy from the earth,
And their (AL)seed from among the sons of men.
11 Though they [n](AM)intended evil against You
And (AN)devised a scheme,
They will not succeed.
12 For You will (AO)make them turn their back;
You will [o]aim (AP)with Your bowstrings at their faces.
13 Be exalted, O Yahweh, in Your strength;
We will (AQ)sing and praise Your might.
You Are a Priest Forever
Of David. A Psalm.
110 (A)Yahweh says to my Lord:
“(B)Sit at My right hand
Until I put (C)Your enemies as a footstool for Your feet.”
2 Yahweh will stretch forth Your strong (D)scepter from Zion, saying,
“(E)Have dominion in the midst of Your enemies.”
3 Your (F)people [a]will offer themselves freely in the day of Your [b]power;
(G)In the splendor of holiness, from the womb of the dawn,
The (H)dew of Your youthfulness will be Yours.
4 (I)Yahweh has sworn and will (J)not [c]change His mind,
“You are a (K)priest forever
According to the order of Melchizedek.”
5 The Lord is (L)at Your right hand;
He [d]will (M)crush kings in the (N)day of His anger.
6 He will (O)render justice among the nations,
He [e]will fill them with (P)corpses,
He [f]will (Q)crush the [g]head that is over the wide earth.
7 He will (R)drink from the brook by the wayside;
Therefore He will (S)lift up His head.
I Love Yahweh
116 (A)I love Yahweh, because He (B)hears
My voice and my supplications.
2 Because He has (C)inclined His ear to me,
So I shall call upon Him in all my days.
3 The (D)cords of death encompassed me
And the [a]distresses of Sheol found me;
I found distress and sorrow.
4 Then (E)I called upon the name of Yahweh:
“O Yahweh, I beseech You, [b](F)provide my soul escape!”
5 (G)Gracious is Yahweh, and (H)righteous;
And our God is (I)compassionate.
6 Yahweh keeps (J)the simple;
I was (K)brought low, and He saved me.
7 Return to your (L)rest, O my soul,
For Yahweh has (M)dealt bountifully with you.
8 For You have (N)rescued my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
My feet from stumbling.
9 I shall walk before Yahweh
In the [c](O)land of the living.
10 I (P)believed when I said,
“I am (Q)greatly afflicted.”
11 I (R)said in my alarm,
“(S)All men are liars.”
12 What shall I (T)give to Yahweh in return
For all His (U)bountiful dealings [d]with me?
13 I shall lift up the (V)cup of [e]salvation
And (W)call upon the name of Yahweh.
14 I shall (X)pay my vows to Yahweh,
Oh may it be (Y)in the presence of all His people.
15 (Z)Precious in the sight of Yahweh
Is the death of His holy ones.
16 O Yahweh, [f]surely I am (AA)Your slave,
I am Your slave, the (AB)son of Your maidservant,
You have (AC)loosed my bonds.
17 To You I shall offer (AD)a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And (AE)call upon the name of Yahweh.
18 I shall (AF)pay my vows to Yahweh,
Oh may it be in the presence of all His people,
19 In the (AG)courts of the house of Yahweh,
In the midst of you, O (AH)Jerusalem.
[g]Praise Yah!
Yahweh’s Lovingkindness Prevails
51 (A)Thus all the work that King Solomon did in the house of Yahweh was finished. And (B)Solomon brought in the things set apart as holy by his father David, the silver and the gold and the utensils, and he put them in the treasuries of the house of Yahweh.
The Ark Brought into the House of Yahweh
8 (C)Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all (D)the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers’ households of the sons of Israel, to King Solomon in Jerusalem, (E)to bring up the ark of the covenant of Yahweh from (F)the city of David, which is Zion. 2 And all the men of Israel assembled themselves to King Solomon at (G)the feast, in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month. 3 Then all the elders of Israel came, and (H)the priests carried the ark. 4 And they brought up the ark of Yahweh and (I)the tent of meeting and all the holy utensils, which were in the tent, and the priests and the Levites brought them up. 5 And King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, who congregated to him being (J)with him before the ark, were sacrificing [a]so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered. 6 Then (K)the priests brought the ark of the covenant of Yahweh (L)to its place, into the inner sanctuary of the house, to the Holy of Holies, (M)under the wings of the cherubim. 7 For the cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim made a covering over the ark and its poles from above. 8 But (N)the poles were so long that the ends of the poles could be seen from the holy place before the inner sanctuary, but they could not be seen outside; and they are there to this day. 9 (O)There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets of stone which Moses laid there at Horeb, where (P)Yahweh cut a covenant with the sons of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt. 10 Now it happened that when the priests came out of the holy place, (Q)the cloud filled the house of Yahweh, 11 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of Yahweh filled the house of Yahweh.
Solomon Blesses the People
12 (R)Then Solomon said,
“Yahweh has said that (S)He would dwell in the cloud of dense gloom.
13 (T)I have surely built You a lofty house,
(U)A place for Your dwelling forever.”
14 Then the king turned his face around and (V)blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel was standing. 15 And he said, “(W)Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, (X)who spoke with His mouth to my father David and has fulfilled it by His hand, saying, 16 ‘(Y)Since the day that I brought My people Israel from Egypt, I did not choose a city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house that (Z)My name might be there, but (AA)I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.’ 17 (AB)And it was [b]in the heart of my father David to build a house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel. 18 But Yahweh said to my father David, ‘Because it was [c]in your heart to build a house for My name, you did well that it was [d]in your heart. 19 (AC)Nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who will (AD)come forth from your loins, he shall build the house for My name.’ 20 And Yahweh has established His word which He spoke; and (AE)I have been established in place of my father David and sit on the throne of Israel, as Yahweh [e]promised, and have built the house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel. 21 And there I have set a place for the ark, (AF)in which is the covenant of Yahweh, which He cut with our fathers when He brought them from the land of Egypt.”
Paul’s Ministry in Rome
17 And it happened that after three days [a]Paul called together those who were (A)the leading men of the Jews, and when they came together, he began saying to them, “(B)Brothers, (C)though I had done nothing against our people or (D)the customs of our [b]fathers, yet I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans. 18 And when they had (E)examined me, they (F)were willing to release me because there was (G)no ground [c]for putting me to death. 19 But when the Jews [d]objected, I was forced to (H)appeal to Caesar, not that I had any accusation against my nation. 20 For this reason, therefore, I [e]requested to see you and to speak with you, for I am wearing (I)this chain for (J)the sake of the hope of Israel.” 21 And they said to him, “We have neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor have any of (K)the brothers come here and reported or spoken anything bad about you. 22 But we desire to hear from you what you think; for concerning this (L)sect, it is known to us that (M)it is spoken against everywhere.”
23 And when they had set a day for Paul, they came to him at (N)his lodging in large numbers; and he was explaining to them by solemnly (O)bearing witness about the kingdom of God and trying to persuade them concerning Jesus, (P)from both the Law of Moses and from the Prophets, from morning until evening. 24 (Q)And some were being persuaded by the things spoken, but others were not believing. 25 And when they disagreed with one another, they began leaving after Paul had spoken one word, “The Holy Spirit rightly spoke through Isaiah the prophet to your fathers, 26 saying,
‘(R)Go to this people and say,
“[f](S)You will keep on hearing, [g]but will not understand;
And [h]you will keep on seeing, but will not perceive;
27 (T)For the heart of this people has become dull,
And with their ears they scarcely hear,
And they have closed their eyes;
Lest they might see with their eyes,
And hear with their ears,
And understand with their heart and return,
And I heal them.”’
28 Therefore let it be known to you that (U)this salvation of God was sent (V)to the Gentiles—they will also hear.” 29 [i][When he had spoken these words, the Jews departed, having a great dispute among themselves.]
30 And he stayed two full years [j]in his own rented quarters and was welcoming all who came to him, 31 [k](W)preaching the kingdom of God and teaching concerning the Lord Jesus Christ (X)with all confidence, unhindered.
The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus
43 (A)And immediately while He was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, *came up, and with him was a crowd with swords and clubs, who were from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. 44 Now he who was betraying Him had given them a signal, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the one; seize Him and lead Him away [a]under guard.” 45 And after coming, Judas, having immediately gone to Him, *said, “(B)Rabbi!” and kissed Him. 46 And they laid hands on Him and seized Him. 47 But one of those who stood by drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest and [b]cut off his ear. 48 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me, as you would against a robber? 49 Every day I was with you (C)in the temple teaching, and you did not seize Me; but this has taken place in order that the Scriptures would be fulfilled.” 50 And they all left Him and fled.
51 And a young man was following Him, wearing nothing but a linen sheet over his naked body; and they *seized him. 52 But he [c]pulled free of the linen sheet and escaped naked.
