^12 (A)by keeping your conduct excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing which they ^(B)slander you as evildoers, they may ^[a]because of your good works, as they observe them, ^(C)glorify God ^(D)in the day of ^[b]visitation.

¹⁶ having a ^(A)good conscience so that in the thing in which ^(B)you are slandered, those who disparage your good conduct in Christ will be put to shame.

¹⁴ If you are insulted ^[a](A)for the name of Christ, ^(B)you are blessed, ^(C)because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

¹⁶ but if anyone suffers as a ^(A)Christian, he is not to be put to shame, but is to ^(B)glorify God in this name.
